Match Thread Manchester City vs Coventry City (A) - Match Thread - Sat 5th September (3pm KO) (4 Viewers)

1-1. We lead early, but they equalise late on and we ride our luck for the remaining injury time.

Not looking forward to this one. The amount of errors we've made giving the ball away in the first two games will get punished clinically each time. Desperately need Big Frank back for this one in the middle. Can't sit back but need to be 100% organised and focused the whole 90 mins and you never know. Bournemouth almost got a result there first game.

I'm staying positive. Our first PL game is Brighton at home.

Arsenal and Man City are light years ahead of us, especially away from home, and nobody is setting up in a low block against us other than Hull, which was effectively a Championship game that played out in a way we've all witnessed a hundred times before.

If we don't compete against Brighton or Forest then my mindset will change.

Southampton 2012-13 opening 4 games:

Man City (A) 3-2
Wigan (H) 0-2
Man Utd (H) 2-3
Arsenal (A) 6-1

what are the chances that man city rest alot of the first team, and we could be in with a small opp for a draw?

I'm looking forward to Saturday - new ground (I did Maine Road years ago), world class players etc. Not looking forward to the result though unless something changes dramatically

I'd be amazed if they rest their first team

541 in defence , grimes for onyeka or whatever

I like that. We can all argue about the odd player swap here and there but, barring injuries and suspensions, I reckon that is very close to our best starting XI.

I do think three at the back is the way to go. It means the LCB and the RCB can go a little wider and help to protect Dasilva and Milan.

The main change that can be made for me is if we can go to the box midfield and play rudoni and hamer as 10s

We may well try that for some games.

I’m not convinced that Rudi and Hamer are fully match fit yet, so I suspect that for the time being we are more likely to see Gus being used from the bench.

5-4-1

Can't see emc, LT or saka having any of the ball to make an impact.

Need strength and energy to keep them out, if we get out Hamer has the best ability to pick a pass for awoyni

What kit are we using for this ? All sort of clash with their pale sky blue. We've got blue and white, white and a faded lilac colour.

Looks like the tram is very much the way forward for those of us relying on public transport on Saturday, but works are taking place to upgrade the station so allow a little bit more time to get back after the game, if you have a pretty tight turnaround to get back to Piccadilly afterwards may be worth leaving a few mins before the end :)

I'll be walking back to town but if you're worried about getting on the met you could walk over the road to where decathlon is and get on at the stop before Ethiad.

" may be worth leaving a few minutes before the end"

That'll be easy if we're 5.0 down. 😩

Im looking at this game as another free hit after Man city we actually have 7/8 games we need to get points from especially from our home games against teams such as fulham, palace, Ipswich, sunderland.

Personally I don't think we can afford to have a 10 in the prem with wingers when we will probably have less of the ball than most teams.

Instead I liked the look of the 4-1-4-1 or 4-5-1 from the arsenal game we never stood a chance against them but with all our new signings hopefully fit to play by Brighton it could look a little like this.

Rushworth
MVE Amenda Pinnock JDS/Mfuni
Grimes
Tchouna yirenkyi onyeka EMC/rudoni
Awoniyi/cherif

Then bring the likes of rudoni/emc, hamer ,torp, cherif, saka for a moment of magic. Personally this gives us the best chance to actually stay in games. We can't play the same way we did in the championship and must evolve.

Stay in a mid block really narrow use onyeka/ yirenkyi to be our ball winners and counter hit space fast.

You to say it repeatedly.
Watching it from the sofa.
Im sure quite a few of our fans will be watching it fromthe sofa Nick.

Not sure what the first sentence means
