Looking through our signings this summer, taking into account price and ability to play here and now, Hamer is far from the most puzzling one. In fact, I’d say he was one of the better ones.

The reactions to different players’ performances last night perhaps highlights the confusion around the club generally. Hamer certainly wasn’t brilliant, or even particularly good, but he did look to make passes that broke the lines and looks closer to Premier League quality than many in the team.

Too often asked to be the player leading the press. Didn't make sense to me, but I still feel he can be a game changer, even in this league. Some of the criticism is far too excessive given the ever changing line up.

Lampard isn’t really a tactical coach, so much as a man manager and player developer, which he’s been good at, and when the talent is there, that can be very effective. But when the basic talent level isn’t particularly high, you need a clear playing style, organisation and lots of round pegs in round holes.

If his strength is his man management then the way he's handled Simms has been absolutely shocking and he's managed to take a team that should have been brimming with confidence after winning the Championship by a country mile and turned them into a set of meek scaredy-cats who feel they're imposters in the Premier League who have barely kicked a football before.

You haven't said anything apart from he tracked back once which fair enough he did, and played a pass with the outside of his foot effort to Cherif? who was blatantly offside. What about the examples you're conveniently excluding?

The one on the outside of the foot, it was a good pass but he played it too late.

Perhaps if Mr Lampard played him in the position he played in during his first stint with us we may see the best of him
