Why do people what to replace McFadz? He was great in the middle of a 3 and unlike any of our other players there has regular Championship experience and has proved he can help a team stay up in that league.

I don't agree with great at all. Cost us more points than any other player last season with his lax passing and giving away penalties.

I'm not. I'd certainly start the season with him as things stand. But I can see an extra year in the legs and more astute forwards and high presses might expose some of those weaknesses we saw earlier in the season that saw him give away a few penalties.

And even ignoring this, it’s a great opportunity for a succession plan with a chance to get a higher calibre of player.

I broadly agree. However, McFadz is getting on a bit, and the Championship is a quicker league than League 1. His leadership is instrumental and is definitely worth keeping on.

Central defence is an area I think we need to strengthen because we only have Pask behind the current starters. Even his appearances were limited.

We have been linked to that French CB (physical profile, and 28) who is also apparently wanted by Leeds, which suggests that Robins has a similar train of thought.

MacFadzean does have Championship experience, however he has been relegated from that league in 2 of his 3 seasons there. Obviously not all down to him but that was in his prime, he'll be 33/34 this season, if he makes 35+ league starts for us this season I'd suggest we'll end up in trouble.

Pask has no experience at this level so I wouldn't expect him to be starting in August/September but I do think he is firmly in MR's championship plans.

Apart from Rotherham (where the whole team was terrible) and giving away a penalty for the first goal against Peterborough, what points did he cost us?

Where’s this “replace McFadz” nonsense coming from ? Yes he made mistakes who don’t ? He’s a leader & without a doubt a key player & leader for the team, not a chance he’s gonna just be dropped by Robins if you cannot see what he brings to the table you need to learn the basics of football

Yeah for a squad to win league 1 under our circumstances of playing in brum every other week, losing 3 matches all season and the togetherness shown, it would be madness to rip that template up.

4-5 signings are needed for sure to compete but I wouldn't start ripping up the squad, that's madness.

Yeah lb needs addressing unless Mason steps up.
O hare and Walsh need replacing. Maybe if this guy signs and we somehow nab o hare back.

Deffo need another striker. I want godden starting but we'll need something else.

Next season is a totally different kettle of fish. We have no idea who may come through the door between now and the start of the season. We have no idea how that team will perform against higher opposition.

As it stands the back three is likely the one that MR will start next season with but that can quickly change if things don't go to plan. Last season we'd have probably said Hiwula and Kasta would be major players for us - both were fringe at best.

Ditto Doyle after L2 promotion.

Not saying I disagree, but I think the logic is that he is most likely to get found out when we step up a level. I can see some value in that argument.

Hmm don't write off Mason either he was decent at the start of the season, no disgrace at losing his place to someone who earned a deal with a premier league club!
Being number 1 choice again may bring out the best in him too.

Never really understood why Mason was dropped. He was our PotS up until that point and had one dodgy game against Rotherham and that was that. Didn't even really feel like McCallum was necessarily an upgrade, perhaps just more suited to wing back.

Easy to forget that Mason singled-handedly kept Pompey's entire right side at bay on his own after Kastaneer got sent off, he was brilliant that night and certainly not easily bullied.

Think Mason was injured at Watford. Played on for while with injury that I believe annoyed Robins. Mccallum replaced him second half. When mason returned a month or so later he had a poor game at Rotherham (like a number of others) and never got a look in for rest of season.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m sure Kelly was injured for a large part of the season. Leaving Doyle as the only leader in the squad and only defensive minded midfielder we had.

It’s no coincidence that we’ve been more resilient and cohesive now we have two leadership figures in the team in Kelly and McFadz.

Still smile about that goal Doyle scored against Wycombe. He smacked that ball as if it were an opponent - ball was almost going out of play but he was in the zone and hit it with almost anger. Brilliant and funny. Loved it!

How many points Fadz cost us last season in your book? I doubt it will be many more than the 2 Dabo cost us at Oxford, but no-one is saying replace Dabo are they?
Over a season, all defenders will cost points at some stage. It's a nature of the position they are in.

I think you nailed it, Mason doesn’t fit the 5-3-2 system we deployed. McCallum, whether he played a decent ball in or not had an insane amount of acceleration over the initial 15-20 yards and could offer an outlet Mason could not. The fact a wing back could do that at L1 level alone is a useful weapon.

If we’re to keep the system then LB could be our most important signing this summer.
