Why are you quoting me with a graph?

The average area burned by wildfires each year has fallen in the last few decades. This is due mainly to changes in land practices, incl. the intensification of agriculture and less savanna burning.

Much of this decline has occurred in Africa and, to a lesser extent, in Oceania.

This doesn't mean that weather-related risks of wildfires have declined: warmer and drier conditions increase these risks. And despite a global reduction, countries can experience very large and anomalous years. Last year’s large burn in Canada is a clear example.

This year also looks to be on-track to be the largest wildfire year this century.

They're describing weather which is changable and always has been. So all that is saying is the burn area will be similar to what it was in 2000, big deal.

Did you see the record cold temperatures in the Artic. 2°C colder than normal for the most northerly regions.

in Antarctica it has also been a bit cooler than usual includng a record -84°C in July.

in Greenland there hasn't been much ice melt this summer.

Some July snowfall returned to Argentina for the first time in 22 years.

In Alsaka and the Alps melting glaciers have exposed ancient tree strumps that were growing 2000 to 6000 years ago in locations where trees can no longer grow.

100 year weather records are practically everyday events if you go looking for them.

a bit like graphs which you think prove your argument until someone reads the same website and shows that it doesn't.

You've decided human activity isn't causing a massively acceleration of the global climate changing. I don't know why.

You seem to reject what's happening in front of you and scour the internet for graphs that you think support your view.

You crack on with that and I'll leave you to it. You've proven you just cherry pick stuff and ignore evidence and trends.

So do you think the trend you're seeing is never ending and we will all burn? 🤭

It's not funny. People are being evacuated from parts of Europe because fires are burning that can't be controlled. Thousands of excess deaths are being recorded which are likely because of heat waves. Almost all of the hottest years in recorded history have been in the last decade. Yes, I think the evidence shows a trend that will continue and lead to existential problems which we might not be able to deal with adequately.

Don't think climate change is an existential problem unless you live on a tiny island nation.
Surprised you're arguing with him at all though given his complete ignorance. Probably thinks wind farms are responsible for bird extinctions too.

The recorded history you're talking about is only 150 years or so.

Major historical adverse weather events have occurred many times before and the climate has changed enormously in the past from ice ages to periods of much greater heat than today.

Look at these artefacts from many hundreds of years ago marking low river levels and droughts, none of these events proved exsistential though there were famines, hardly surprising when a horse and cart on poor roads are your main transport systems. Some of these stones are exposed in Gemany now and there is no famine. Hunger stone - Wikipedia

There is much greater resiliance than in the past and it's only a couple of years since there was flooding in Germany.

Climate alarmism is a religion a pessimistic death cult.

Human activity has added enormous amounts of greenhouse gases to the atmosphere since the 19th century

Greenhouse gases trap heat in the atmosphere

The Earth has become hotter at an accelerated rate since the 19th century

Higher global averages drive more extreme weather events and excess deaths

Which of the above do you dispute, and where is your evidence?

When does everyone start dying? The world population has increased about 2.5 billion this century.

How about you answer the question that was asked rather than coming up with straw men.
Colder weather is far more dangerous than hot weather,
Didn't you didn't notice all cause mortality peaks from December to Feburary.
Between May and August deaths are much lower.

The fires in Crete are tough to read about, we’ve stayed multiple times in the part that’s burning at the moment. Beautiful place and really nice people, hopefully they get it under control.

People being evacuated in Suffolk now due to wildfires they're struggling to contain.

Aside from the odd bit of drizzle I cannot remember the last time we had sufficient rain

Never known Cov to be this dry, all the grass is now basically hay, and looking at the forecast there seems to still be no rain through the vast majority of August

You older ones amongst us, unprecedented for Cov do you feel??

I feel the same about rain. We got back from Spain on the 22nd June and there's been basically no rain since then, I don't think I've ever known it like this. A brief couple of moments of downpour this week, like genuinely a few minutes, then back to blazing sun.

It's so depressing. Taking the dog for his daily walk through the park, it's entirely yellow and stinks of hay. I hate the idea that this is the new normal.

Last couple of days have been nice and cool, but back up to 32 next week

I hate the idea that this is the new normal.
I was listening to a podcast with some ecologist on the way to work and they were not happy with journalists using 'new normal'.

Said it was giving people the impression that what is happening is normal and can't be prevented when its very much the opposite.

There is a part of me that wonders what more it will take for those in charge to address this as an urgent, existential concern that will require drastic changes to our way of life

Until people as a whole accept it means some sacrifices on our part, it won't happen as governments will just be voted out.

It's not the new normal, it's still one anomalous year but more likely to happen more often in a warming world. A lot is being done but an awful lot more needs to follow.
