Generally the people most dismissive of this stuff are the people who won't be around long enough to really be affected.

I admit that up until a few years ago it wasn't something that I thought too much about but after having hailstones the size of golf balls fall from the sky outside, seeing a man up to his neck in water in the city centre, seeing a mini tornado and someone's roof torn off their house during a severe storm due to the heat, it's fair to say I'm a bit more concerned!

Certainly during the summer months. I really want to revisit Italy, probably in the motorhome, as we have a dog. We're ruling out anything from June through to August.

October is probably the ideal time, IMO.

The two most effective things are opening windows early in the morning, and hanging white sheets outside sun-facing windows.

Don't think I'm going to be able to afford proper air-con anytime soon, might look into how much problem binds or shutters on the outside of the house will cost

It might look a bit daft but putting white coverings outside the windows can cut your house's temperature by about 6-7 C compared to the outside.

It will cost about £10 billion a year to sufficiently adapt the country towards the new climate, on the basis that it will cost even more if we don't do anything.

so if this country does that the whole planet will recover?

also if the whole country adopted a plant based diet it would massively reduce deforestation and emissions - around 25% - will you do that?

Unfortunately that’s not far off. What summed it for me was as soon there was a spike in oil and gas after the Ukraine war kicked off, everyone expected goverment assistance to reduce their energy bills. If ever there was financial incentive to go along with the environmental one to reduce our collective consumption, that was it. We got our answer

Locally we’ve had no recycling collected in the the Birmingham area for 18+ months which shows how much the council and the unions prioritise the environment.

Ultimately everyone makes the right noises until it costs them time, effort and/or £s then all of a sudden it’s someone else’s problem.

Having said that unless US, China and India do a lot more I doubt whatever we do with in this country will make a blind bit of difference. That’s not saying we shouldnt all try but we’ve also got to be realistic of the effect we can have

That’s a wild non sequitur. That cost is to properly adapt the country to a warmer planet as I said, nothing to do with broader climate mitigation.

Add in rain overnight and I'd agree.

Maybe have a few cooler months but the freezing temperatures and ice and snow can F off.

We can think it's inevitable but controllable, and that starts now.

Otherwise just saying 'nothing we can do about it' and carrying on as-is makes what was a potential 2 degree increase turn into a 4-5 degree increase.

I actually quite enjoy few shandies with proper lemonade during the day when it’s 35c+.

Runner Beans were very poor I think French Beans are better if it's hot.
I should have put more tomatoe plants outside rather than in the greenhouse it's been too hot even for them, still they may produce a bit more yet.
On the positive side I've getting some squash & melons growing and one courgette plant has gone into ballistic production mode.

I've been on home grown tomatoes and cucumbers for about 6 weeks now, still got loads to get through, good thing that they're so delicious otherwise I'd be sick to the back teeth of them.

I had tomatoes from the end of May until early July but the heat’s killed all the plants off.
