We are a Club with big ambitions, and all that we want is support for our new team, it is going to be a club for the fans. The colour red was agreed with the 4 of us and the players.

Personally I like the theme of Lady Godiva & the George Cross badge...I would prefer perhaps a yellow border (maybe in a heart-shape at the top...heart of England(ish)?) with our Lady on a skyblue background with the George Cross underneath. We have all te primary colours in there then :)
The name...mnnn...no ring to it is there? It's a hard one to overcome - all for keeping it simple...how about Coventry Football Club? Does exactly what it says on the can...because "United" has already further divided us it seems.

Good idea, but I agree about the name and colour. 'United' & red are already followed by too many in Coventry. Reviving the name Sporting would be good. That would not only be readily identifiable with Coventry, and provide an alternative club for people to follow, it would also tap into the city's history.

Coventry FC is unlikely to be a starter, however. That is actually the traditional name of the rugby club - Coventry Football Club.

Talking of which, if Cov (rugby club) gets its act together in the next 2 or 3 years as it seems to be planning to, it could pick up a lot of disaffected Sky Blues fans. I know not all football fans like rugby, but remember Cov were once the biggest name in English rugby and attracted good crowds to Coundon Road. They could certainly build up to attendances of around 10,000 if ever they made it back up to the Premiership, and even more so if the Sky Blues decline continues.

Far more people in Coventry sing united and wear red footy shirts anyway, so I can understand them trying to appeal to the majority...!

If you have chosen red why not add sky blue stripes for a Barca style strip ? I agree with some link to CCFC maybe Coventry Singers FC ?
Would attract more support from CCFC fans if the club is in exile ?

Nevertheless, good luck with the project, every success, all long journeys start with one small step.

Would any of the fans moaning about the name actually go anyway or just want something to moan about?

It just doesn't inspire, Nick.

It's dull, uninmaginative, overused and the point is if you wish to start something up from scratch then surely you want to get all the basics right from the start.

How long did it take to conjure up this name? 2.4 seconds?

Thinking about it, I quite like Godiva FC.

Surely it has to be a resurrection of Coventry Sporting Club who played at Kirby Corner until they went out of business. Played in Red and Green (Cov's City Colours) but in no way a replacement for City.

Wish them luck though.

I remember that.

Seem to remember Peterboro fans running on to the pitch to get away from some pretty pissed off cov fans.

I just don't have the enthusiasm for it, never have, never will.

Personally, I think this new CUFC will go nowhere because there won't be support for it, and I don't like the idea of taking CCFC fans away from CCFC.

If worst came to worst, I'd play Rugby instead or just work on Saturdays.

How is this taking fans away from CCFC? These will be fans who are already not going to be Walsall or wherever anyway. The fans are already lost, new club or not.

I was at that one and the 1st round v Tranmere 1975. Peterboro took over the West End thinking they were the big club in town until Cov fans arrived from the pubs at about 2.50 and peterboro fans left very quickly to put it politely.

I went on to play for them up to U16's had a really big youth section and we played in the FA Youth Cup too.

Red & green would be brilliant. Just like it used to be. Red & green quarters wasn't it, from the pictures I've seen, or maybe red & green halves. Red & green stripes would be a good alternative - & then maybe blue as a change strip.

Yes, I can really see that taking off. Lots of precedents, lots of history to draw on which could be important for a new entity to draw on.

As we once famously sang, "Go for it!"

Think we were the only city to have a team in the old first division and have an amateur club at the same time. How times have changed

Yep, red and green would have some Coventry link.

Can I just add though, having not mentioned it before. . . . . I HATE the name!!

Shall we set up a new trust and protest against the team colours and the name? Send your quids this way please... ;)

I agree with other posters. Change the name, make it clear that this IS a new club set up for those fans that no longer follow city in Walsall and you might just be onto something. I'd certainly go if Cov are playing home games in Walsall

Red? And that badge looks like something the EDL would come up with.

Disagree - George Cross has been a representative symbol of England & the English since way back when. Just because some choose to hijack it for whatever reason (good or bad) cannot take it away as part of our identity. Coventry is in England & its inhabitants are predominantly English (the quiet majority) & proud to be so.

Yep.

If you are going to come up with a brand new club why go for the most derivitive of names? Doesn't make sense to me and seems like no-one has given it any thought whatsoever.
