Match Thread Coventry City vs Brighton & Hove Albion FC (H) - Match Thread - Sun 13th September (2pm KO) (1 Viewer)

The formation doesn't help him, EMC and Rudoni also not really suitable for the roles being asked of them. I think Lampard might have over thought the Hull game, it wasn't a brilliant performance but wasn't that bad and but for some strange defending would have been a point.
A point would have been fine. We gambled, we lost.

I dont think we will move on from him, so I guess its just a case of stick in and see.

The first 15 minutes of the game where Rushworth was continually hitting awful balls up to Rudoni and we were losing it every time was especially baffling.
I can only think that he's been told to do that and that's down to Lampard. You do that or play or short and watch Grimes play it sideways or backwards

We could sign Mo Farah to run 20km in a game but with the same end result that he had zero real impact on the game. It’s clear as day the ball constantly bypasses midfield in both directions. Rushworth long kicking was pants but in fairness we have so many players that aren’t comfortable receiving the ball deep and looking to move us up the pitch. Occasionally Amenda, Yirenki when on and that’s pretty much it.

Rudoni is one of our best players. But he’s not a RW. We’ve spent £20m for someone to play there and have a RW in the squad in Saka who is also better than Rudoni in that slot. It’s 5 at the back that cost us and we have to ditch it

He really isn't one of our best players. That's the issue.

He wasn't meant to be rw. That's the other issue

Yes he is a fine system player at this level, but again Cally is underestimating the gap between the two leagues

It's a ball in behind him, should be be standing on the touchline? Just accept it for what it is, good movement, a good pass and a good cross.
Come on.. it’s been our weak spot for 3 seasons… it’s not his fault he does the best he can but he’s doesn’t start for any other team in the league..he’s like grimes, a good championship player

First things first…Brighton are a good PL side. On the play we didn’t deserve to lose by 5. We had 6 shots on target only 1 less than them

But the way we fell apart after the sending off, the silly defensive mistakes and the non-existent midfield are very worrying signs.

I thought Lampard slow to ring the changes after the dismissal.
5 at the back becomes 6 with Grimes… leaving so much time for Brighton to set the tempo and exploit huge amounts of space. How many times did Brighton pick up the ball 35 yds out and we were on edge of our box and no one closing down. On top of that the full backs didn’t/couldn’t get up the field often enough.
Milan is off it…too often out of position and in PL speed alone can’t hide that. Pinnock and Amenda appeared slow and were at fault for 1st and 2nd goal respectively. Thomas stuck an unnecessary leg out as their player ‘fat’ touched a ball and was moving away from goal. Not good to see Rushworth and Milan having words towards the end.
Awonyi looks an upgrade on wright and simms but he needs players closer and with them running off him. Getting sent off has made the next 3 games harder but cherif and/or Simms(if fit) have a big chance to stake a claim.
EMC doesn’t get himself involved enough.

Hopefully this is a big wake up for Lampard and the team. Must respond big against Villa.
Great to see fans reaction last few minutes…so positive compared to boos etc

Of course he is. Needs to play in a midfield 3 with Onyeka and Yirenkyi. I agree he’s not a RW but he was forced there as we pursued a back five which we must now drop.

He wasn't a winger today, again this is part of the issue that you probably think he was.

I remember in 20/21 thinking that we surrendered a lot of midfield space but today it was just another level. Letting players run through unopposed, take potshots from outside the box etc.

If it’s a plan, it isn’t clever and if it isn’t our plan then the players don’t understand their instructions.

On a day when all three CB’s cost us a goal, let’s go after Dasilva.. kinell
I’m not going after him… the point was made how well he’s been playing but we’ve still conceded goals down our left..teams target him. Not his fault he does his best.we just need better

No, I just think he was played out of position. The whole set up was wrong. Rudoni has a place in the team but not as a wide player.
Are you sure you aren’t Rob Gurney’s alt? It’s alright if you are I’ve just been convinced for a while.

Rudoni is arguably one of the best headers in the team so why is he taking corners and free kicks on the touchline.

it's beggars belief.
