First Flecky and the Wigan player. Gail Emms has said she has had a really high BPM afterwards and side affects.

Is there something regarding elite sports people and the vaccine?
Didn’t Gail Emma retire after the 2008 Olympics? I know she had a bad reaction to the jab but she hasn’t been an elite sports person for over a decade.

Given that you've got no idea whether they've had the vaccine or not I'd say it's just wild speculation

Well, we do know that the mother in law of one of our players has had serious side effects from the vaccine and is now in a wheelchair/disabled.

I've tested positive for covid today.

As soon as the new variant was announced the UK has moved pretty quickly to stop flights from a number of countries, much quicker than earlier in the year for Delta

Either they've learned their lesson or the new variant is very bad

Do we? Am I the only one that hasn't heard anything about this?

Edit: should read the later posts first, seems I'm not the only one who has no idea about this!

Allegedly and charlie wyke too. But no not confirmed just read it
Hmmm, still speculation then.

In all this... even if it ended up some high profile people did have side effects, that wouldn't be surprising - nothing is 100%. It's all about risk isn't it? We're trying to move down, after all, to a position where Covid is manageable risk, and that doesn't mean people will stop dying from it.

Ultimately, the statistics show overwhelmingly that risks of vaccine are dwarfed by risks from Covid. There's no competition in that particular game!

I'm hoping it's precautionary and that in fact some lessons have been learnt. If that is the case then not only will we hopefully not have another awful variant to deal with but i will have had a tiny modicum of faith restored that even the most pig-headed of people can learn and change.

Its already here, no doubt about that, they first found it 2 weeks ago, guy traveled to hong kong with it and gave it to the guy across the hallway in a isolation hotel, thsy had no contact at all, so sounds very transmissible, also isreal have it.

Think they just need time to assess how bad it is just as a precaution.

The press seem to jump on it and start the scaremongering stories, I'm sure it won't be worse than any variant spread out there, fingers crossed.

If you are of a certain age they are. For younger people it virtually makes no difference.

Whether this wave of collapsing from sports people is a coincidence, or whether it is actually vaccine related, again, many younger people will be further discouraged to get the jab. If it has nothing to do with it they should just come out and say it rather than sweep it under the carpet. Skeptical people aren't stupid.

Is there a wave of collapsing sports people? Or are we just noticing them all? Is there any data that suggests an increase over baseline?

I
Still think athletes collapsing is more to do with their bodies being pushed to new extremes 🤷‍♂️

Ive no doubt there are potentially rare issues with the vacinne, a poster on here, Torquay Sky Blue had some serious side affects, (dont think he's posted for a bit, hope he's ok), but overall it's beneficial.

Seems a good place to start. Wonder if there's also an element of us hearing about these things more often due to the world of social media. In the past if some random player collapsed in a league overseas you were probably fairly unlikely to hear about it.

When Stuart Broad tore a muscle recently he spoke about how it was a surprise as he wasn't in the red zone. Their team keeps track of players workload, training etc and if they go into the red zone they are prone to injury or other issues. Don't know anymore details than that but wonder if we have the same in football. How many players ever get given an extended break in the season for recovery?

Anecdotal but I do know of one case of an extremely fit fanatical youngish woman 30's who unfortunately died after the vaccine, while maintaining her routine.

There’s a long list of players collapsing ill on the pitch and dying in many cases saldly and at all levels. Marc Vivien Foe at the age of 28 being one of the most high profile, Fabrice Muamba only survived by pure luck as a leading heart specialist happened to be in the crowd and the game was just around the corner from the UK’s leading heart treatment hospital. I remember Hinckley United having a player die on the pitch some years ago, don’t recall his name but do recall he was an ex pro who’d played to a good level earlier in his career. It happens sadly, not just in pro football and long before anyone received a Covid jab.

Equally I know someone who unexpectedly had a heart attack last year and it turned out he had Covid and it almost certainly triggered the heart attack, the only other symptom he produced was a loss of taste and smell the following day after the heart attack and only became aware he had it in the first place when he was tested on admittance to hospital.

The new variant has been detected in Belgium. So presumably it'll be fucking everywhere by now or in the very near future.

Hopefully it's not as bad as some are saying.

The WHO has said all along that no one is safe until everyone is safe. Let’s hope this variant isn’t as dangerous as it’s being feared it could be.
