I don't think much more needs to be said about this 28 year old striker. He was never going to be here long. Let's get half a million for him and move on to the next one. As has already been said, strikers will score goals in our system.

But they will look at his past history, see he never stays anywhere for long, will know he is 29 in a few weeks time and will know of his injury record.

We won't get a million.

Was he forced to "hand in a transfer request"??????......
Pretty sure handing one in means that a player forfeits certain bonuses, payouts etc..(meaning no pay outs from club).... and would almost certainly alert any clubs that may have had a slight interest...
Just putting it out there.....

I think you raise a valid point. Its not like the waters have even been tested with a bid and SISU have rejected it like the Gareth Bale saga. Reasonable enough offer and SISU would have accepted so why forfeit your bonuses? I smell a rat.

It's a vicious circle, we've had a lot of success this year with having pretty much the two most in form strikers in the league, but we simply can't compete on salaries ... so Liverpool can afford to keep Suarez, we simply can't match Wolves, we don't have the owners in place that will fund a return to the Championship, let alone the Premiership. You have to stick by your guns, match salaries and keep your players, we never learn. He isn't moving to Wolves because he is unhappy here, I think personally that Pressley would be a good manager to work for .. he's moving because we are unstable, have very little future and Wolves have every chance of being promoted. With the loss of Leon, I'd say this year is over, but we won't get relegated ... next year, under current owners, I don't see a bright future at all ... just more of the same, we are a selling club, we can't attract or keep anyone good.

He is playing the best football of his career, his past record says more about his attitude that talent. Sheffield Wednesday really rated him just turned out to be lazy.

Someone might pay over the odds but he isnt worth a million.

So over a million would constitute as a ridiculous offer.

If we tighten up the defence and he continues as he is. He may earn us 5 million.

I would hold onto him for 5 months and sell him in the summer even if it was just 700k then instead if a million.

Then we should force him to stay.
Then in 5 months time we transfer list him even if he wants to stay. Show everyone Pressley is the boss.

And this is why he's played for so many teams.........

Shame to see him leave, as he's been in fantastic form. But if he wants to leave, then sell him now as it may end up upsetting the dressing room.

Not at all, how can you blame the owners for Leon wanting to leave, let's be honest in the summer Sheffield United enquired about taking Leon, if he wanted to leave because of where the Club was at with regards to Sixfields and the boardroom then he could of happily done so, but he waited until he built up a bit of form and then when wolves comes sniffing around he wants to jump ship? If he wants to join his hometown Club fine so be it, but isn't the owners fault they haven't given him a push and he didn't jump when it was acceptable to do so, if you want anymore proof look at his interview in the CT, telling them that he didn't want to force a move away from the Club then hands in a transfer request, hypocrite ****

Good research stupot07 I think we should and could hold out for a million, looking at the prices you have quoted, but we never seem to receive a players fair value when we sell.

Shame, SISU can stretch their litigious muscles against the trust and anyone else who speaks out against them yet when it comes to standing up for the club over a player who has blatantly been tapped up, nothing. Something tells me they might want this to happen $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Love the conspiracy theories on here.

It seems pretty simple to me, we sign a striker with a long track record of itchy feet, be it down to wanting to move to a better club, the need for a signing on fee, to better his wages, down to bad attitude, falling out with the manager etc, so his history of commitment to one club is short.

He does well with us, at his natural level (league one) and is made aware of interest of other clubs through his agent. One is his home town club with a chance of promotion, whilst others are in the league above. His chances of either promotion, or playing on a higher stage are there, and the chance of higher wages/bonuses etc.

In view of this he hands in a transfer request, and therefore forsakes any potential bonuses with us, but this is compensated by the higher wages and signing on fees he will get with his new club.

We are what we are, a mid table skint league one club, and he is what he is, a player who will get what he wants at a time of player power, but I cant blame him, what with a short career, in maximizing what earning potential he can get.

I personally feel its wrong but most players are like it now, and he is not alone amongst the ranks of pros.
I would let him go as he no longer has the desire to play for us and when that happens its time for all concerned to move on.

A striker currently top scorer in this division and on the face of it a good finisher, will attract attention from other clubs at this time of year looking to strengthen for either promotion pushes or to stave off relegation in a higher league.

But it must be remembered the way Coventry play creates chances galore so any manager at another club best be sure Clarke can do the same for them. Wolves clearly create plenty of chances and look like one of the automatic promotion candidates but not certain by any means. Brentford and Leyton Orient show no signs of giving up?

It could just be Clarke ends up in the playoffs with Wolves and Coventry? So why move?

Football is a gamble at times and Wolves I assume think he will make the difference to assure an automatic spot.

As for the footballer himself...can't blame him for moving for a chance of a higher league sooner rather than later, assuming Wolves make it and the prospect of better money I would have thought.
Against that is his partnership with Wilson and breaking it could mean a change in his fortunes. Good partnerships don't come along so readily. However Wilson is out for 2 months at least and I'm sure that had a bearing on Clarkes thinking.

So what's he worth? He's set for 30+ goals this season and that even at league 1 level in todays market for a player in his prime, still on a lengthy contract, be worth around £750k I would have thought.
Can we replace him easily and quickly? Who is there at this level knowing we could spend half a million or so as a replacement?

Let Clarke go for less and we are making a mistake. Stand tough for at least half a million.
It could be argued in Clarkes interest to continue his form to the end of the season and see what materialises for him. (who knows we could still get promoted) But which one looks the better bet if you were in his shoes?

Does this suggest he refused to play against Crawley with todays news an Pressley quote about asking Leon when he will be fit again?

I didn't blame the owners. I said the behind the scenes circus can't help.

If i was a footballer i wouldn't touch ccfc with a barge pole.

No apparently he had genuinely sore nuts as Pressley lifted him off the floor by them when he handed in his transfer request.

ok so you can not blame sisu for Clarke leaving ... but we can blame them for having such a thin squad that we now have no recognised strikers if he leaves .. even if Wilson comes back sooner than anticipated he may have lost his form..come back roy o'donovan all is forgiven.

Perhaps if the revenue streams were flowing in they could have addressed the money side of it (somewhat). So in one sense SISU have created the situation. In addition, playing in front of a 1500 odd crowd in a very poor quality stadium, when you could be at the Ricoh in front of 15,000 (based on current great form of the team), does not help to enjoy playing.

I think its irrelevant personally, but you wouldn't argue the behind scenes shambles is caused by them.

Lets also remember next season!!! If he has looked that far ahead he will know without promotion which I am in no doubt will not happen, CCFC will be in the shit with regards to player budget due to big loss in revenues and the likely hood is that he would have been sold in the summer anyway regardless of if he wanted to go or not therefore if your hometown club come in for you now who play in front of 20k plus crowds per week and more money, why not???? Lets also face facts, we will not get 1 million for Leon, we will get no more than 750k tops and I bet thats 500k up front with certain add ons etc etc. I fear this is the sign of things to come i.e. summer exodus and I bet the likes of Wilson, Moussa, Murphy, Christie and Baker could all be on the way out.

And your 30 goal replacement is?

By blocking him you also show the young players, the club will do what's right for the club and it is not going to be them calling the shots.

Don't get me wrong if it is a ridiculous bid say 2 million I expect he will be sold.

But talk of 350k to 1 million it is worth forcing him to stay and go for promotion.

Then transfer list him in the summer, even if he changes his mind if you want to make a point.

Think bigger than your pissed off state now and think about what is best for CCFC

Good approach & SISU said they can fund the 5 years of losses at Northampton anyway! So no need to sell and push for promotion.

clearly his agent has been tapped up that a deal is in the offing somewhere, I know everyone is saying Wolves but Barnsley, Millwall, Derby and Sheffield United are all after strikers and can all afford to pay probably double what we can in wages

I completely understand his reasons for wanting to leave, but let's be honest here - this is something like 15 clubs by the age of 28. That suggests to me that there are issues with the player rather than the club. Let him go - he isn't irreplaceable.
