No wind up mate! I guess it all hinges on whether you believe someone's sexuality preference is a choice or not and whether you think everyone should accept it if it is.

Like I said in my OP, I'm just looking to guage a reasoned response.

If it’s a choice I suggest you choose to be gay for the rest of the year. Let us know how you get on.

Yeah they should be, it’s a collective campaign. We’re one of the top 46 clubs in the country that get a wide exposure to not just this country but every other country in the world.

The club do it because in this day and age, people should have to hide who they are. It’s accepted as norm because you had the likes of Justin Fashanu take his own life. I don’t agree with hounding players to come out, but there are allegedly a number of gay premier league players who are frightened to be found out as to who they are.

it’s CCFCs and Footballs attempt at showing them that their Life is accepted.

the game would have been chosen in advance and appears to be a football-wide thing, they couldn’t really predict John Sillett’s death.

Was probably @Bugsy he’ll be along in a minute to defend Leeds and their use of homophobic slurs.

The OP has asked a question and alluded to his opinion. He hasn’t been offensive yet he gets shot down.

When homophobic slurs are used on here, nothing is said and when it’s pointed out regular posters jump to their defence.

Forum is very hypocritical. One poster above says this post makes us look like twats yet we all know his posting history!

I beg your pardon.

you haven't got a clue who I am or my beliefs so I wouldn't start accusing me on defending anything that leeds or anyone's homophobic behavior.

and as for the hypocrisy you are a fine one to talk, take a look back at your posting on this forum.

I don't know what problem you have with me or anything but u have been targeting certain people on this forum when they are only pointing out your discrepancies.

edit: you know what can't believe the audacity on you either as your thoughts on Liverpudlian people are totally disrespectful and highly offensive.

I disagree. He's been articulate enough in how he's posted and already knowing what some of the responses would be as he mentioned them in that initial post. He's therefore conscious enough and aware enough of the reasons why there is a campaign or at least has the ability to have researched and Googled first, so is clearly wumming.

I imagine this question would normally be asked in Off Topics but the club tweeted it would be supporting the Rainbow Laces campaign this weekend. Not wishing to be facetious but I am genuinely trying to understand a simple question….

WHY?

While I appreciate that societies 'norm' from my generation is shifting at an alarming rate, I do not understand why the club is providing awareness to a tiny and perhaps growing fraction of our fanbase. If the Rainbow Laces wing of the LGBT+ community want to practice their sexual/gender choices, then go for it. What I am struggling with is why their choices are being held up as the new 'norm' that should be accepted by those who may not share in their choices?

I totally get the club making a stance by supporting issues that are a result of no choice at all like the colour of your skin, your country of birth, vicious diseases etc but not somebody else’s sexual/gender choices.

I wonder how we would all feel at election time if the club got behind the Conservative Party with blue armbands, laces and corner flags? Most would see this as plain daft and divisive to rip apart the fan base to support a political choice.

I am quite happy to be educated here especially from those who support the Rainbow Laces campaign. However, if the only reasoned remarks to my question are you're a homophobe or a bigot and general name calling then I will simply dismiss the comment with the contempt it deserves.

When travelling hundreds of miles home and away, I do this to support Coventry City Football Club and I am not concerned about anybody’s sexual/gender preference when jumping up and down when we’ve scored or when we’re all singing together getting behind the team.

Just interested in the rationale behind it all, and if the goal is to encourage society to accept their choices, then what about the choices of the vast majority? - Most of which would just remain silent as not to get ‘called out’.

No fault of the club but I would prefer this Saturday’s game to be all about John Sillet, 3 points a nothing else.

Should the club be involved with these kinds of campaigns?

Yes. The club is striving, as it should, to be inclusive on all fronts.
I'm sure this is a wind up so well done, you got a response from me.

There is that, but as a labour voter (tin hat time) I’ve been highly critical of their own supporter base in that they jump to outrage, rather than taking the points and having an open discussion as to points of view. You get much further in saying “ok, I get you but you do know point a, point b and point c”

there are people out there that don’t like the rainbow lace campaign, but rather than shout them down, take their points and explain why this campaign is in play

But would you say the same to the BAME supporters when discussing those who still don't get the 'kick racism out of football' message?

If people really don't understand in 2021 then I think if those softly softly educate them messages are not getting through then there is clearly a lack of will to want to try and understand. The only ones I'm willing to give any slack at all are the much older generation who have lived through very different times and are being asked to conform and change, but even there I'd expect them to be at least respectful.

More offensive than this:

Coronavirus Thread (Off Topic, Politics)

What I don't get is how they describe it as running rampant when it was 59 cases from one region according to another statement given out. Because its over taking delta variant in their sequencing sjowing its more transmissible than delta,
www.skybluestalk.co.uk

More offensive that being told to ‘get a lift you c**t’ because you like a girl band?

More offensive that being told you have no friends because you don’t like Southgate?

More offensive than being called a spastic?

It's a really easy answer this.

It really isn't a choice. If it was, then perhaps given all of violence and bigotry and prejudice that's gone on over the years, most people would have 'chosen' differently. Particularly the ones who killed themselves or were beaten, 'converted', or chemically castrated for making the wrong 'choice'.

So, given that, the rainbow laces campaign is about saying that it's ok to be who you are, even in football. We're obviously not there yet, but it's progress.

Now that it's been explained, will you change your opinion, or will you continue to be outraged?

It's a pretty big decision, surely you can remember it, no?

I don’t have any ‘beef’ and I haven’t seen any homophobia on this thread.

I’ve seen homophobia, ableism and many derogatory comments on this forum though that should have gone punished and didn’t.

Still people pick and choose when to be outraged and when to care about discrimination and mental health

I take your point at the start, but we’re having to explain BLM and the knee - so we are having to explain that, so yes in that context I would say the same.

I mean unfortunately, that’s not the case with a fan who goes out their way to scream racist abuse at players - they’re more likely to scream homophobic abuse at gay players.

i’d say the OP is in the top category rather than the bottom one. May be that I’m being Naive though

And the other point here, even if in the face of all logic you still think it is a choice, what gives you the right to refuse to accept it? It's their life and their choice, not yours.

P.S. It's not a choice, ok, get your head around that and you'll be on the right lines to understanding why this matters.

My one take from all these campaigns is why do people get so annoyed? CCFC supporting the campaign isn’t going to negatively affect anyone.

Matty Godden wearing rainbow laces isn’t going to stop him scoring. So why get outraged by it

The only person who has suggested the OP was banned, only suggested that if they were using their 'material' as a wind-up. If the OP were to acknowledge that certain sentences were tactless at best, that would be the end of it.

Because people are allowed to make mistakes... even you.
