Transfer Rumour Carl Rushworth - Permanent (7 Viewers)

[Offhegoes]

He was our player of the year, in a season where we won the league. It was crucial we signed him. He'll save a last minute Declan Rice penalty at the Emirates on Friday the 21st, as Cov run out deserved 1-0 winners, with a long range strike from Milan Van Ewijk.

[Marty]

I'd expect them to announce it tomorrow once all the PR stuff is done.

[Hobo]

The only part of deal that frustrates is buy back.

However, got full faith in DK that it will still
Mean we gain from it.

Depends on the detail of the buy back. It often just means they get first refusal with a pre arranged fee. But Rushworth could still say No I don’t want to join Brighton.

[Sky Blue Goblin]

Please dont send your apologies all at once

[Lamps]

Well that's that over at last!

I thought £15m max but there seems to be a big inflation this summer with the new spending rules.

It's a huge gamble really. £20m odd rising to £30m is an awful lot to put into one position and only an injury away from losing the lot. It'll restrict what we do elsewhere on the pitch too. LB needs addressing pretty badly and probably a CB and cover for Grimes/Onyeka. I'm not sure at all.

Rushworth is less of a gamble than our other signings so far.

[fernandopartridge]

How much did Jeremy gain them? Negative £5m in wages and fees
How much did Rushy gain us? About £200m give or take as part of the collective

Not one serious fan of any club would take him over rushy, not a single one.

Beadle did help us to get to the play offs the season before TBF to him

[AFCCOVENTRY]

I watched a highlight video of the season a couple of days back. The first goal he conceded at Pride Park I remember convincing myself he was crap.

He had a couple of dodgy moments when he started and some of his passing. Settling in period. Then he very quickly became world class.

This is a signing which slots straight in and no issues with bedding him into the coventry way.

[Hobo]

I am sure it had been explained above somewhere but humour me, can someone explain to me how the buy back clause works, and what are the variables involved?

No because it depends what is written in the contract. It can work in multiple ways and mean different things. So anybody saying xyz would be guessing. The simplistic explanation is they could buy him back if certain criteria is met.

[Sky Blue Pete]

See I thought about that one before my post. I'd put that as being the most famous for sure. But the speed of movement for the Rushworth save is astonishing.

His explanation was great
He explained that his defenders had the other corner covered so he dived as the shot is hit so great reflexes but also the ability to make a judgement based on the circumstances
It was an astonishing save

[Shannerz]

Is he supposed to be any good, this bloke?

[Liquid Gold]

Is he supposed to be any good, this bloke?

No Ben Wilson

Do we have any precedents from previous buy back deals Brighton have agreed?

[Speedie's Head]

The buy-back might help us too if we're somehow we're relegated.

I’m confident he prevented far more than 8.2 goals last season.
Stupid stat.

Rushworth's contract will cover anything that might affect him in the future, if he doesn't agree with the terms of the contract he won't sign it.

[David O'Day]

19, Doug isn't going to want to have to replace the preprinted 19 Rushworth shirts we have already sold

[Skybluebaz]

With all of this reminiscing about former keepers. My 1st game was Perry Suckling’s debut. Make of that what you want

[Hobo]

Gordon Banks against Pele the only one better that immediately came to mind

Peter Shilton last five minutes at Highfield Road for Forest to win the title. Mick Ferguson header towards the top corner, Shilton diving the wrong way with both feet off the ground, salmon flip and clawed it out of the top corner. That was pretty impressive, the whole off the West End had their feet off the ground as well.

Ah but did you see Les Sealey in 1992?

I think there was also a bit of a panic at the howler in pre-season (St Pauli I think?).
Goes to show there really isn't anything in pre-season games apart from match fitness/sharpness

Just watched that again. Not quite how I remembered it but still a very good save.

[BerksSB]

He does have a tendency to dwell with the ball at his feet. Almost caught a few times. He’ll have to be sharper in the premiership.

Wilson being loud was used for a reason for him to be our number 1 - his assist in the 6-yard box weirdly got ignored.

You don't buy a Ferrari when you can't afford the service bills Could we afford an injury to Rushworth? I highly doubt it. That's what I mean by a gamble.

[robbiethemole]

who was the little keeper we had, saw him at Watford and the ball looped over his jump to save it?? memory's totally gone btw

[skybluebristol]

But then by that logic you should never spend decent money on any player in case they get injured? Any club is in trouble when their starting keeper goes down. Not many teams have 2 starting quality keepers. Signing Rushworth is a no-brainer

[Mucca Mad Boys]

Mmmm....we all have opinions. Oggy was an good keeper, certainly wouldn't say he was more than that. Hedman, Westwood and now Rushworth were a lot better. Only in my opinion, of course.

We shouldn't write off Dovin either. I think he will become a very good keeper too.

I believe Dovin would’ve improved on a quality first season had he not done his ACL. The next step for all parties involved is get him a good loan. That way, we either get a solid replacement for Rushworth or more likely, we can sell for a profit.

Feel for Dovin, it will be a case of ‘what could’ve been’.

24/25 was a butterfly effect for our GK situation, Rushworth goes to Hull gets injured for the season so doesn’t build on a great 23/24 and in mean time, Dovin does his ACL. If either one of those things doesn’t happen, Rushworth doesn’t sign in 25/26.

The transfer window is still open we could have a new no 2 by the time the season starts permanent or a loan ( to Jan or until end of season). Depends on where Dovin’s rehab is at.

If there’s a clip going that would be great to see!

It’s on you tube Shilton’s greatest save

Still hope Tyrese Campbell snaps his leg into about 10 pieces. The bloke is a proper c**t. Proper Wilder player.

[CovveeBreak]

Two things:

1. Hoping the club give us a Rushy season highlights vid, real lack on YouTube.
2. You know we’re getting a great “sign the contract” video
