Has anyone ever been to watch a MLB game?

We are thinking of adding it to our itinerary when we visit NY in June. The Mets play on the day we fly home, but our flights arn't until nearly midnight so looking for a filler for a few hours.

Been to a few - but i'm a follower of the sport. it does go on for a while - butt they've moved to add pitch clocks to speed the play up. its around 2-3 hours. Not been to citi field but if its like yankee stadium they have in seat service. really enjoyable to sit and chill.

yeah to an extent.

it gets really tactical towards the end where they pretty much switch pitchers every other batter.

Yes, its a 125 quid but will save you a bit in the long run if your looking at going to the main sites...

We went to watch the Yankees and it was pretty boring - most people around us seemed to spend their time eating junk food and/or smoking weed and not really watching it.

We went to watch Baltimore Orioles and were so far away we had no idea what was going on. The Americans loved it with beer and food delivered to their seats and every now and then "we will rock you" blared out of the speakers so they would stop eating or drinking to half-arsedly sing along.

I fucking love MLB games. You kind of need to take the view that you're going for the full experience rather than the sport itself, because baseball is kind of dull 90% of the time and incredibly exciting if the scores are close near the end. I love the whole pagentry of it. The music, the atmosphere, the vendors, everything.

If anyone's ever in Chicago, I 100% recommend catching a Cubs game. Chicago is a hell of a city and Wrigleyville is a great neighbourhood, proper party atmosphere before and after.

I watched a bit of the World Baseball Classic as apparently Britain entered a team but none of the players or coaching staff are from the UK! Interestingly the sport was fairly big here before WW2 but interest dropped way off after the war and funding was pulled.

There is some decent crossover with cricket so I’m a bit surprised it’s not caught on.

I was a half season ticket holder at the Trop.. (Tampa Bay Rays) and loved going to the ball games (due to everything you said above..)
I also loved the tailgating before and after..lol

I've been to Yankee stadium, Kauffman stadium (Kansas City Royals) and the Roger's Center (Toronto) but I have to say, i absolutely loved Fenway Park (Boston Red Sox) ..
It just oozed history of the game. ( and yes I know its not as historical as other sports)

I've been outside the stadium of the Great American Ball Park (Cincinnati Reds), in the off season and that was cool too.

Still follow the Rays on the box when timezones allow..

You've got me craving a baseball game now..haha..

Been to Wrigley Field, Yankee Stadium, Rogers Centre and saw the four UK games.

Like others have said there can be big lulls in the game and it does seem most of the locals are just having a day out eating with a game coincidentally going on in the background, but they do play something like 180 games a season.

If you like cricket you'd probably find it ok as a means of passing the time. Plus if it's at the Mets you might be able to have a look around Flushing Meadows which is the other side of the train tracks.

I saw Atlanta Braves at home to the Chicago Cubs about 15 years ago when in the US for work.

I enjoyed it. It does go on but I'd happily sit and watch a 5 day Test match in cricket.

They know how to do entertainment over there so I enjoyed the spectacle as much as the game itself.

Would recommend.

Went to a Rockies game in Denver. I enjoyed it, but it was weird seeing how many people weren't watching the game.

I popped to the toilet and there were just swathes of people hanging around the inner concourse and the bars and the restaurants were full.

Could never get my head around the fact that people would pay to watch a game and then not watch the game

It was an even contest, so not like the Rockies were getting thrashed or anything and this was just about 30 mins in.

One of the main World Cup fan parks is at Flushing Meadows, so no doubt we'll be in there a couple of times to watch games etc.

The thing with american sports, is they see it as an entertainment spectacle with a bit of sports thrown in. Professional sports there is literally like watching their kids in the park and they're making a day of it. You can see that with the super bowl and the stupid world cup half time show. different culture.

Around 2.5/3 hours all in...
The new 'pitch clock' rule has reduced the game time quite a bit.

It’s about 3 hours. It starts off reasonably quick but by the time of the 6th inning it starts getting tactical and they make their version of subs at that point… then the weird half time happens in the middle of innings 7 out of 9

Yes seen the Mariners a few times but when they were still in the Kingdome, it’s a sport to see live on the tv I get bored.
