With a little more than 3 weeks or so to the season opener at Arsenal I question our preparations. With just two friendlies in that time, some players just back from World Cup duty, and still no indication of expected new signings, how can that be the best preparation?
Even if a couple of signings emerge there is not the friendlies or time to get the 'team' gelling together with any authority. So for me that is an error and could have consequencies to our start.
Am I over reacting? What say you...

Everyone has a plan until you get smashed in the face

Same every year, but even tougher at this level.

I think the players possibly did too much last summer. It gave as a good start for once but the deep fatigue by Christmas was there for us all to see. The CBS friendlies will be about a dry run for all the new equipment for VAR and broadcast, I suppose as much as match sharpness. I'm hoping Arsenal will be behind us in their prep after the WC.

We've probably yet to sign some of the players who will start the season, so I wouldn't worry about a lack of pre-season games here.
Half our team have been playing warm up games for other clubs.

To be honest I’m happy leaving that to the back room team we won the league with last year.

Arsenal are playing friendlies in Italy and Dublin. Against Ac Milan, Girona and Real Betis.

They most definitely will be up to speed, they have a big squad remember.

some will call it bedwetting, but every fan has the right to be concerned right now, I thought we would give it a go at staying up, but with 3 weeks to go and no sign of anyone coming in it is concerning, the players will not have a chance to gel in time and play some friendlies.

we will sign Rushworth, which is great but doesn't excite me because we had him last year so it doesn't move us forward.

only other serious link is Hamer, i think his best years are behind him and would rather use his wages/Fee elsewhere, people creaming over idea of him returning are remembering a player who played for us in a different time, in his peak years and when we wasnt a top championship let alone premier league team. So this one wouldn't excite me.

getting spanked by Arsenal will not change anything as that's expected, but losing at home to Hull week 2 will then maybe wake them up and then panic buys will happen.

call me a bedwetter, a moaner, a worrier, call me whatever you like but this summer is concerning, as this team needs 4-5 to not compete for 20th, and maybe 8-9 to give 17th a try

If we're being totally honest, Hamer is a risk based on him being pretty dangerous even since he left.
In his 3 years there, he's been player of the season in all but last, when they inexplicably gave it to someone with less contributions.
He basically is too good for the championship and too good for blunts.

Hamer has been brilliant for Sheff united, i cannot deny that, but the 3 years there and 3 years with us were his best 6 years, he is now 29 will be looking for a 3 year deal, and we will get a Hamer who will be in regression, and stuck with the contract until he is 32. he will not be the same player the championship has seen in previous years, if we are going to look at players with no resale value like Hamer would be, i would rather we spent our money and time on players with proper premier league experience who can offer something to our team.

he may be to good for sheff united, but thats becuase they've dropped off, he was to good for us when we was a mid table championship team, doesnt make him a prem player, makes him a top championship player, there is levels and we are not shopping at the level required, because we either are naive and do not think we need to, or have targets higher than our level and when we offer wages they laugh us off.

I get the feeling we have tried to bring players in but wages have been issue, we wasnt paying high wages last year so doubt we are offering big wages this year, as they will be scared of being stuck with contracts when we go down.

i am being very negative i know, im just very disappointed in our lack of summer business, was such a high of reaching the prem to disappointing feeling we are not doing anything to stay in the division.

someone mentioned we do not want DK telling world about our business like Hull owner and i agree, but if we intend to not do business id rather DK tell us, or tell us we are trying, doesnt need to say who, but at least give the fan base some hope we are trying

He’s in his prime

To be fair though, we play 8 less leagues games this season. We won't be playing Saturday - Tuesday - Saturday, week in a week out, unless we end up a couple of massive cup runs we will be playing far minutes than last season.

I’m concerned about the lack of signings & the lack of information coming out of the club .
If Lampard is happy with his lot so far , then I’m at a loss & I know we have just over 2 1/2 weeks , but the quality just isn’t there, for our big season.

I have genuinely been disappointed by the lack of social media activity full stop. Hardly any training clips/photos or interviews. Doesn’t sound like there’s much to hide so I find that a bit strange, thought they’d have been building a lot of hype around our return but it’s just the occasional post about the kits.

Maybe there's 4 new players training with us, and we don't want to let the cat out of the proverbial

Cov Fans - Stay quiet Doug and don’t give away who we’re interested in. Don’t want them stolen from us.

Also Cov Fans - Why isnt Doug telling us about the players he’s trying to sign…?
Or the Doug way - Stay quiet and still get players stolen

Its not good enough really, we knew before anyone else we were getting promoted. Lampard must be pissed off.

do you know for sure there wil only be 2 friendlies? Did you have any idea we were playing Leicester until they said we had?

Like I just said in another thread. An elite coaching team would have a plan.

Im quite calm and relaxed about it.

The Championship is a much better league so I'm happy enough 👍

I honestly believe, and I may be being naive, that Lampard wouldnt have signed a new contract if he didnt think the plan in place could achieve at survival.

Having said that, I think people have every right to voice concerns, even if I dont share them.

You are being generous. This summer has been a disaster and King im afriad has sold fans up the garden path.

He is just happy to take the PL money and see us back in the Championship next season. It is clear the club has no ambition to stay in the PL thats abundantly clear.

I dont have that much of an issue with us having no ambition if we dont have the finances to make it as a PL club, but i have an issue with the the pricing structure at the club sold on the basis we will give it a good go in the PL whene obviously we have no intention to.

Not unheard of for chairmen to lie to their managers about ambitions

Funnily enough part of me wishes we were in the Championship looking fkrward to teying to win the league as opposed to trying to beat Hull to 19th and 15 points.
