Jesus De Miguel

I saw this last night and thought it looked bad, but didn't expect anything other than a bit of concussion and a couple of weeks out.

Absolute tragedy.

Keeper needs banning for life, complete disregard for the opposition flying in like he did. Lucky he didn't take his head clean off.

What a tragic thing to happen.

Haven't seen the footage and have no intention of seeking it out. You'd hope it wasn't deliberate but even so its going to be tough mentally for anyone involved in the game let alone the keeper. Don't really want to consider that it may have been a deliberate, and therefore avoidable, foul.

Horrendous challenge, should be banned for life. Players have a responsibility to keep each other safe. Brainless..

RIP.

It goes without saying the keeper obviously didn't want to kill the player but this wasn't stopping him going through via a trip or a shirt pull kind of thing, it was absolutely reckless.

Awful challenge but it was a one in a million chance of this outcome. Don't think he'll be tried for murder but I can see a lengthy ban and if anything he'll probably retire early out of guilt.

Now isn't the time to talk about life bans, it was reckless but no way he intended that outcome and I'm sure he's feeling awful enough about it. If we allow players who have committed crimes (Luke McCormick etc) to play again, then he should be able to, but more about if he feels he can carry on, not sure I could.

Absolute tragedy all round, RIP.

Manslaughter. That challenge was totally unnecessary.
Inclined to agree

Remember when Ben Thatcher absolutely levelled Pedro Mendes about 20yrs ago when playing for Man City? He was lucky not to face any legal repercussions, although I think Mendes did not want to press charges

No criminal charges against the Ice Hockey player which imo is far worse, despite the obvious risks. Keeper certainly hasn't set out to hurt him and I'm not sure what benefit there is in prosecuting here, but think that should be the players family who decide if it would give them any more peace / closure.

That ice hockey player should be in jail.

Thatcher should have been charged. Horrible shithouse of a player.

Edit. Although he did nearly take Nicky Summerbees head off too so at least he has some redemption.

Not great challenge but I'd certainly say unlucky to cause death. Schumacher on Battitston seemed far worse to me.

Jumped at the player, not at the ball!

Its at least as bad but I suppose its the same as if you punch someone in the street after a few beers. Make a soppy connection and no one hears of it again, man drops and dies then you're in a lot of trouble. Its bad luck but its also reckless and obviously going to get more scrutiny given the terrible outcome.

He could feasibly go to prison for involuntary manslaughter to be fair.
Could he? Issue would be is that much of a bad tackle that it is so out of the norm for football that it is a vriminal offence.

Bad tackles are part of the game and legally if Spain is like most countries then you'd have to show the challenge was so very far outside the norms of football hich as I said include bad tackles that it is no longer part of the game.

You can make good arguments either way but it would be a tough sell in court.

For anyone who hasn't seen this imagine the Schumacher challenge on Battiston at the 82 world cup but he led with his knee, it was just inside his own half and he started walking off straight away as he knew he was getting red carded before the ref had time to card him, he also got a congratulatory pat on the back from one of his teammates as he went. It was an intentional foul and should be treated as manslaughter IMO.

Edit- I've just seen Scumacher mentioned above, he was just luckier than than this guy.

Legally it can't under the premise that it is an "intentional" foul.

If it was so reckless so as to endanger life it's possibly manslaughter
Liam Roberts of Millwall got a six match ban for a challenge that was arguably just as bad, but the outcome was obviously not as bad. It's a tragic accident, but it's in no way intentional.

I'm no expert in law, British or Spanish but there is surely a law that covers an unintentional Death via an intentional act ? If not Manslaughter then what ?

It was almost identical to when Shumacker took out Battiston in the 82 World Cup. He had to have oxygen on the pitch. Old Harold wasn’t even booked. It was like a scene from Kung Fu

Shumacher taking out Batistuta, Spain ‘82.
That Millwall c**t maiming Mata in the FA cup last season - The once ‘protected position’ is/has been taking liberties for a very long time in my eyes view.
I’m not suggesting hanging for those of a cloth cap, pipe smoking, sociopathic persuasion, but maybe a public leg breaking as a result of instances like these may make them think twice?
