It makes it worse that we pissed the league last season by 11 points and wer’e the worst of the 3 that came up

Rudi was not the problem today. Could one of the new signings end up in his place? Yes. But he wasnt the culprit today

Wasn't doing it last season perhaps after four months his legs have gone.

Last week we were much more even or better on these metrics than Man City.

The team has just not adapted to the PL, fitness and therefore performance levels not good enough.

Just looked at Hull and Sunderland's stats this weekend. They both covered a lot more distance and twice as much sprint distance. Ipswich similar.

I can take a lack of quality but a lack of running is just effort isn't it? Not good enough and hopefully Lampard recognises this very quickly.

It may be better, if possible to look at the first half. Second half was just completely gone due to the red.

A game plan of sitting off and letting the opposition have all the space and possession will do that.
 
My benchmark team this season is Sunderland. So comparing their results against our 4 results so far they lost all four albeit at different times of last season apart from Hull who they played in 2024/25

Back home on the south coast. Obviously I'm delighted by the result but I'd say try not to feel too disheartened. I thought Coventry looked a pretty tidy side for stretches of the game and had plenty of decent chances. A combination of Verbruggen having a great day and a lack of clinical finishing let you down. The red card obviously didn't help, nor did Dunk's worldie. He does score the odd goal but nearly always with his head. On another day could easily have been a 2-0 game or even closer.

When we were promoted we had a couple of very dodgy seasons and had to really scrap to stay in the league. Luckily we managed it and were able to build on that. Brentford did the same. Forest, Sunderland and Leeds suddenly look established too. That first season is the tough bit. You need the proverbial lucky goal off someone's arse and you could be on your way up. The important thing is to keep backing the side. The vocal support at the end was quite impressive to a visitor. If the crowd turns against the team you've had it.

I know they've notched a couple of impressive wins but I'm still not totally convinced by Hull and Ipswich. And Palace and Fulham look vulnerable too. Hang on in there.

Welcome to the premier league I guess. No doubt Brighton are a top team, but even with so many players missing they were head & shoulders better than us. I thought we did well first 40, and after riding out their good start we looked the better team, but once again we didn’t make the most of being on top & got punished, and we saw how ruthless these top half teams in the prem are. 2nd half was a complete mess, EMC has to do better with that chance, and within 10 minutes, massive mistakes by Awonyi & Amenda & it’s game over. We looked completely shell shocked after that.

I understand the clamour to revert to a back 4 after conceding 5, but I have serious doubts over the organisation of the defence & midfield and when you throw in the frequency we’re making individual errors, I worry yesterday is going to be a regular occurrence.

FL has got to use Villa as an opportunity to use some of the new boys as it’s clear for all to see the core of last seasons team are not capable of making the step up. The international break can’t come quick enough now.

I'm usually fairly positive but that was a body blow. Awoniyi with a brain less decision that will now cost him as he can't play until the end of October or maybe before if the villa game is included.

Prob need to get to the international break and take stock. The season can't really have got off to a worse start 😭

We've played two of the best teams in the world.

Ipswich played Palace who had 10 for most of the game. They also had Sunderland at home first game and not buoyant Arsenal away.

Ipswich have had a much better start, but not being able to acknowledge they've also had a much more straightforward one is about what you'd expect from the kind of dimwit who can't spell their own user name, and who'd think a public transport network was employing software with the specific intention of defrauding them.

what utter crap

we’ve played Hull who we finished 20+ points clear off and almost everyone said we should be getting 3 points and Brighton at home who were missing 6-7 players

2 home games 0 goals and 6 conceded

The Arsenal and Man City argument means nothing when home form has started this bad

I think I'm just going to go into every game assuming we are going to lose from now on. I was actually quietly confident about yesterday 😢

We should have got three points against Hull. The team selection was poor, going gung-ho was naive, and we can never break down low block.

Saying that and also saying Ipswich's start has been more favourable aren't mutually exclusive.

Saying 'we should be getting 3 at home to Brighton' is also completely unthinking. They are a quality outfit, seasoned at this level, have plenty of quality in reserve, and are one of the best outside the top tier. They are closer to Manchester United in quality than Manchester United are to Arsenal and Manchester City, yet you cite Manchester United as an example of why our start has been no more difficult than our direct rivals. It's brainless.

Manchester United put 5 past Ipswich, btw.

May as well have requested that our promotion was annulled at that point.

No, we should be expecting better than yesterday. But also saying 'we should be beating team X at home' as if they were some lower midtable Championship team is also plainly ridiculous.
