The early red flags are there imo. It’s a game of opinions, we’re entitled to have different ones.

BTA coming on at left wing isn’t ideal in the Championship, never mind the Prem.

Mfuni as a makeshift left back and Dasilva starting is unfortunate.

Our standout CM last season, Grimes, looks very unsuited to being in a team that sees a lot less of the ball. Yirenkyi I think will come good, but he hasn’t got the right support in there with him.

MVE looks like a rabbit in the headlights and we have an untested and currently unfit KKH as his alternative.

However, the biggest red flag is Lampard tactically, who got it badly wrong last weekend and has the players looking unsure of what’s required. He is calling for one thing while something very different happens on the pitch.

I’m not bothered about going down, I am bothered about how we do it.
 
How much have Hull and Ipswich spent on ‘brand new signings’? We’ve spent £120m~ total but £30m of that was on keeping Onyeka and Rushworth from last season so only £90m~ spent to turn our Championship squad into a Premier League one. Ipswich had to spend about £12m on Akpom and Kipre but I don’t think Hull had any loanees they bought.
 
We have a good team as it is, when everyone is fit our starting 11 is good and we have some good options off the bench. Would we have liked more yes, maybe a LB, LW and CM, but the LB and LW would have been backups and the CM we can still get there are free agents available but if Lampard thinks we have enough then I believe it

He’s an unknown at this level. Brighton can take the risk for pocket change to them, we can’t. Tchaouna has at least got a season in this league we can judge him on. Which wasn’t great either, but he was playing for a Thunderbird in a cardigan
 
I still think Grimes will be fine once the team figures out how in should be playing but once FTT is back you can play FFT and Calaeb as 2 6s and then Rudi as a 10 if you really want to go for the solid base.

Yeah, this is what I think. It’s going to be a tough season and will be amazing if we stay up but it’s bigger picture stuff for me.

However, it still fucking hurts to lose and will hurt if we go down. I think it’s possibly to hold both positions ie to be grateful that we’re not playing league 2 football anymore and to still be upset when we lose.

I actually also really like our recruitment. They should all improve as season progresses and we seem to have signed an absolute beaut in Amenda.

Amenda will not be here next season regardless of what the team does.
 
It's the left hand side that worries me. If Dasilva gets injured then we've got either Bidwell (who may leave) or a really young, albeit potentially talented, loanee. If (or when) EMC gets injured we've got the option of a few who would all be playing slightly out of position.
 
A lot of talk on this about how we haven’t shipped out the likes of Bidwell, Raphael, Woolfenden, Lati etc. Here’s a thought, maybe we haven’t had any interest from anybody on them. Not always as easy to shift out players.

We’ve heard rumours for all of them bar Woolf who is injured tbf.

Feel like it feels worse than it is because every other club seems to be buying and we have started the season poor. I like to hold on to optimism that it could look different by game week 10 and these current players click, alternatively could be that we haven't done enough in the market. As much as i think we are probably done for in's, i would like to see a surprise one or two come through the door.

if there is a long term issue for EMC at any stage then i guess that is where we will change system

Of course it's opinions, I just sometimes think it's too early to judge! I fear people like to get ahead of the curve of being miserable.

Just let it happen and enjoy what you can :)
 
If that’s our load shot, then it’s a disappointment. We talk about a change in formation but have we built the squad in such a way that change is easy? It kinda reminds me of the Mowbray second season, when we bought for a 4231, it wasn’t working so we pivoted (I think) to a 343 but without the personnel to do it, thus seeing Sordell out on the wing. Obviously it’s not as bad as that, but I still think the lack of options is concerning.

The glaring omission though has been outright pace. As BSB said, it seemed fairly obvious that this season we’d need to be more defensively compact, more direct and have the ability (through pace) to create an attack with 2 or 3 players committed to it. I don’t really see that. EMC is good but not overly quick (and never gets played a direct ball despite making the run for it about 25316 times a game), Awoniyi’s quick but can’t sustain it for 60 minutes let alone 90, Sakamoto definitely not considered quick. The only real pace we’ve added is Tchaouna but he is nowhere near capable of launching an attack on his own.

This idea that people enjoy being miserable I’ve never really understood, each to his own though.

We should have gone and got him as an upgrade on Grimes. Grimes is too slow in his passing, thinking and so on.

They signed Gelhardt who they had on loan.
 
Bard gone to Leeds for initial €1m and a further €5m to buy! WTF? Why weren’t we in there for him at that price, just outright buy him.
 
The only positive it seems is that we are moving on some dead wood

Yeah this has always worried me about our current squad. It’s quite a big oversight to not have much raw pace when you’re gunna be playing on the counter a lot.
 
If that is our lot, it's a 7/10 window, when we needed a 10/10 window.

Upsides:
- Yirenkyi and Amenda will be standout players and make us a lot of money.
- Rushworth a huge win and once he finds his feet in this league will win us points.

Downsides:
- No major experience in the middle of the park, which means we will persist with Grimes
- No cover for EMC, which means we will persist with BTA out wide

I'll back the boys and as a relentless optimist will continue to believe we can survive, however not only did we not get our business done early enough, we are not hitting the ground running by any stretch.
