What was our ‘lowest moment’?

“Personally I would say either the loss away to Oxford in league 1 or away to Forest Green in league 2. Maybe some will argue Northampton was it irrespective of league position. Thoughts?”

I have said before that the Oxford match, with Venus pretending to be a manager, was my lowest point. 4-0 down after about an hour and I knew we were going down (even in November). We were so bad it was embarrassing and all the City fans there were raging. The only positive that day was that I was home by 5pm (after leaving when the 4th goal went in).

Forest Green - another awful day. Cold, wet and outplayed by a village team. Promotion seemed a million miles away that day.

Two of the worst City games I’ve ever seen were surprisingly when Mark Robins was in charge. The first of these was an away game at Oldham in Robins first spell that we won with a scrambled Cody McDonald goal in the last few minutes. This was a dreadful game with the goal the only redeeming feature.

Robins lost the first three games of his second spell. One of these was a 2-0 home defeat to Southend. Our ‘performance’ that night was abject. I don’t think we had a shot on goal or created a single chance. One of my sons said to me on the way out that he didn’t want to come to games anymore. He was at the next game as usual but for him to even think about quitting shows how awful we were.

It’s a testament to Robins that on both occasions he turned teams of seemingly dross players into competitive, winning units that were good to watch.. Our form in his second spell after the Southend game was play off form. No Viveash with him at that stage either.

A personal low point was being in Tesco’s at the arena one Boxing Day and seeing thousands of yellow and black clad Wasps ‘fans’ flood the walk way through to the stadium. At that point I could never see them leaving.

The day they went bust I danced around the kitchen and I don’t dance!

Wasps going bust is right up there with my favourite CCFC moments mate. I might have genuinely enjoyed it almost as much as promotion to the PL and I'm not ashamed to admit it.

Was that the night match? If it was I think we were 2-0 down in that game within 20 mins and I left after the 2nd goal - I had managed to leave, walk back to my car, drive home to Tamworth and have shower and get into bed all before the game actually finished
 
2017 Barnet 0 Coventry 0. The single worst game of football I have ever watched. (Mason Clarke was playing for them at the time)

That was the game.
 
Several things stick in my mind , the march against SISU through the town and the council not supporting their home club .Took the WASPs cash in stead. The sixfield debacle- I went twice just to see my team - how sad 2.5k fans - felt for Presley and the players. The selling of our best players every season and the decline, thinking where will this end- will we have a club.
Yeovil 6-2. Mental thinking we’ve messed up the play offs
Convincing my lad to go to brum after we left the city again- said Robins and players stayed so we should - sort of siege mentality and was enjoyable again except for the journey
Finally commonwealth games joke and going to Burton - get stung on the arse by a Wasp - ironic and then watching Callum Doyle getting rinsed at left back as we lost 3 nil to Bristol

Brilliant fact re EMC! I remember that game being boring, but I don’t seem to remember it as badly as everyone else haha
 
There were some diabolical matches in the championship the first time round.

Losing 3-1 away to Gillingham between xmas and new year in the Peter Reid era. The vitriol towards Reid and the team as they trudged off at the end was really something.

Perhaps a year or two later, losing 4-1 away to Blackpool the saturday before xmas on a freezing weekend..... 10mins gone and we were already 2-0 down and Kevin Kyle sent off.

As awful as it was going to Northampton, there were actually some excellent matches during the first half of that season.... tailed off in the 2nd half of the season, aside from spanking Peterborough.

A crap game but a good day out. I think it was the debut of the Kelly and Doyle song, Doyle promptly passed the ball out of play. haha!

Barnet hired these youngsters who had the Indian style drums to back the team. They started drumming for our team.

People mention the Yeovil game. Funny enough, i wasn't that fussed about it. It was a total freak result like Man United losing to Southampton 6-2 in the mid nineties.
 
Villa Park, losing 5-0 at home to WBA, losing 3-1 at Bristol City in pouring rain, which basically condemned us to relegation from the championship
 
The London Wasps Era was absolutely grim and it still makes my blood boil they were even here to start with

Remember being in the Flying Standard in town after coming back on the train from an away game one time and they had just been at 'home' and a table of proper rugby types (Your usual oval ball chasing condescending arrogant arseholes) were spouting out how good they are for the City of Coventry, how amazing it was that 'elite level sport' was returning to the City after so long (Which was clearly a thinly veiled dig at CCFC) and how we were just 'Bitter Wendyballers' who could not hack the fact Coventry was now a 'Rugby City' as we couldn't keep our own house in order - It took every fibre of my dads being not to bite back and get into a row with them

Was just horrible seeing that badge (Which was twice the size of the CCFC one) plastered over a stadium that was built for us, the poxy free flags they used to give out, the pop up stalls they used to do in the City Centre trying to give their free tickets away, it was all just absolutely grim and it makes my skin crawl that the same councillors (Namely Mr Duggins) who sold us out to them are now skulking round the club trying to take a bit of the glory

Those involved should be hounded and reminded constantly about what they did and what they also nearly did, because in an alternative universe where Wasps business plan was not as disastrous and Covid doesn't happen to speed up their demise we are still playing subordinate in our own ground to them and god knows where we would be as a football club
 
I remember going on the protest outside the Ricoh when they played their game. That was depressing.

I know it was a long way from rock bottom, but it was the moment when it hit home how sh*t we'd become. 90 mins of straight long balls to Clive Platt that just bounced out for goal kicks.

Horrible day, we were somehow winning for a good chunk of the game before we capitulated

It was the only time I ever went to Ashton Gate before they modernised it and it was a proper pokey shite away end - The rain that day was something else

5-0 loss to West Brom was really toxic. Losing to Crewe in EFL Trophy was really maddening. Still can’t understand how we lost that 3-0

Reading all this brings back so many memories, the fall was just so incredibly depressing. We should sing the 'F*CK the wasps...' song at every game forever really, it's part of the fabric in a strange way and those days should never be forgotten. Love all the sky blues who stuck with it the entire time, we're back 🩵🥲

Personal low was actually a game we won. Crawley away to stay up in league one. Losing for about 80 minutes and playing absolutely shocking football. I remember thinking I should not be this apathetic to relegation. We turned the game around but it was humiliating. By the time we did drop out of league one I actually had slightly more hope for the future, I loved mark Robins and the chance to see players like Shipley, Doyle and Bayliss play for the badge

We were winning but we were utterly dreadful. A honking performance. There was a spell in our first Championship spell towards the end where we were just abysmal away from home. I remember it feeling like a big shock when we went down as we started winning away more often than we did at home.
 
I would put this somewhere near the top. An idiot in a baseball cap, idiots on the pitch masquerading as a team, and to be honest that's when relegation to the bottom tier struck me as being probable rather than possible.

The back end of our Championship stint our away support outside of local matches had turned absolutely awful - I remember in those late 00s early 2010s days being at Saturday away games outside of the Midlands and our away support could not have been any more than 500 on some occasions

For how dark the L1 and L2 days were I genuinely do think it kicked our away support into gear a little bit, 12/13 we took some good followings due to new stadiums to visit and then in 13/14 away games were the only games most people chose to attend and we kind of just built from there really

Andy Harvey who was our kit man for donkeys years and City absolutely through and through was approached by Orange Ken before the game and was asked to print the initials KD on his CCFC jacket and swiftly told him to do one

In terms of games... Newport away in the pouring rain with no roof.. drew 1-1 with a last minute Biamou equaliser. Also i remember Shrewsbury away.. think it was midweek and we were 3 or 4 down by half time. Their was a cup game too might have been Bury. We lost 3-1 and Roy O'Donavan scored off his shoulder... his only goal for us. I was absolutely raging that night. Disgusting performance

That Newport game has to date been the only match my daughter has ever been to. I think it’s fair to She did not enjoy herself.

Strangely, I’m surprised to see it as a nadir for others…I bloody loved it when Max scored, and let’s not forget seeing Lee Burge make the greatest save in the history of football!

Me: “Did you see that!?! What a save”!!!

Her: “Fuck off Dad”!
 
Does anyone remember an away game at Wimbledon on a Tuesday night where Slade gestured to the crowd with his fingers that we were winning 1-0 and then we ended up conceding a 96th min equaliser? :ROFLMAO:

Same night as Yakubu's debut
