Confirmed Signing Sidiki Chérif (Winger / Striker) (3 Viewers)

Flemming?

Scored 10 goals last year, covers multiple positions and most importantly fit to play 90 minutes straight away
So you’d rather have Flemming than Cherif? It’s easy to look back over this thread to find that is difficult to believe the way you were raving on about him. Why not now?

Because he is not fit to play, and we dont know when he will be?

The fee in the wider context of the league is not big. Especially not for a CF.
Why does the wider context of the league matter?

Bottom line is we’ve spent a significant chunk of our budget on a player who is currently contributing nothing. I’m not writing him off of course, but to justify it he’ll have to be some player when he does feature.

A 19 year old who's scored a career 6 league goals or a guy who scored 11 in 29 in the PL in the worst side and has scored 100+ senior goals scoring consistently at a rate of 1 in 3 across his career ? 🤷‍♂️

While we all want to stay up obviously, the reality is we are favourites to be relegated, and that wouldn't change by signing Flemming instead of Cherif. Given that background, it is right for the club to try and strike a balance between the short term and long term. We have signed Awoniyi, as an old head and already have Wright once he is fit again. Wright's comparable goal scoring record is actually better than Flemming's over the 3 years each have played in the Championship! Time will tell of course, but Cherif probably has a much bigger upside than Flemming, so I'm not going to get wound up by us signing him instead.

That miss seemed to really affect him though, think that's just inexperience. He played really well
Understandable, and think he got unlucky with it.

Theres a lot of promise there and he keeps the shirt for Spurs if I was the manager.

He has got a bit about him, young kid that can only get better. Definitely a big unit

He’s got so much potential and the way he got the penalty by being alert and quick to the ball and then the way he took that shot for goal was brilliant.

Another one that the wankers had written off before he’d started. Lots to work on but at 19 I’m very impressed.
I haven't seen anyone write him off.

What wasn't needed was throwing him in at the deep end without getting a feel of the Prem and hitting his confidence. Lampard and his team will have been working with him and giving him an idea of how they wanted him to play. His confidence will now be sky high, but I don't think they will rely on him yet.

Cherif is definitely one of those players who’s here for 2 years tops - he’ll then go on to be a 100m player for someone else. He has all the tools, once they’re honed he’ll be some player

I'm super positive for our future, we have some quality youngsters on the books. We won't get shafted by bigger teams in the transfer market.

We have removed that extra stepping stone, we don't need a middleman now we are in the Prem. When we sell it'll be for nuts money. Even if you go down relegated Prem teams can command a premium for anyone who has done ok, look at West Ham. And even players with potential can go for silly money like we had to pay for Tuna.

Won the penalty , scored a stunning goal , should’ve laid one off to Rudi and miss hit an easy one

He’s 19 years old , if he brings that to the table on his full debut I’ll give him all the time he needs to bed in to the Premier league

Think Awoniyi offers more away from home
Agree - not sure Cherif won a header all night - but a culture of “earning your shirt” is a good one to foster.

Great to have genuine selection options

No one wrote him off, but unfortunately we have a small minority of bell ends on here who would rather argue with other fans than enjoy a great game and a fantastic result.

It happens far too often.
