Having read a few bits I do think we need to challenge outright hate far far better
The freedom of speech argument can do one as can the laws on protest

You've got no chance of changing these people. That doesn't mean we shouldn't try, but they have been told something since birth and all of the extreme views pushed on them. Hearing, from a guy in a different country, most likely of a different race, and telling them in their adult life, not to believe all that they've been fed forever is wrong, isn't going to change anything. It can only come from the teachings within and in their own communities.

I might sound like a broken record, but until you get to 2nd and 3rd generation who have lived amongst western values and enjoyed the trappings of a different world to the one their ancestors have known, then you can't expect them to be more moderate. You only have to look at the raping rather than the murders where they in many cases don't even think they're doing anything wrong.

If you want to learn more about the birth of Christianity you need to read about the "council of Nicea" in 325 AD
But trust me, very few people are even aware of it, and its a real eye opener for religious historians.

In brief, in 325AD the roman empire was collapsing and there was mass religious unrest, so emperor Constantine got all the religious leaders together at Nicea and they basically voted in a new religion, called Christianity, based on the teachings of Christ. The Virgin birth, and Jesus's divine origins were voted in.
And the head of the church was to be based in Rome, where it remains to this day.

After this event the crusades went across the known world spreading the new religion, and all previous records of any other religions were destroyed, all know written records were burnt, any known scribes were murdered.
This period of time was called the "dark ages" as no records survived to shed light on the previous times.
Any surviving documents are held in secret in the Vatican libraries.

Thats why evidence like the dead sea scrolls and the Nag Hammadi scrolls are so important to scholers today.

The crusaders murdered millions of people in the quest to spread the new religion, but they were finally stopped at Jerusalem by Saladin and his armies, that's why Christianity never made it to the middle east, and that's why, to this day the same war still goes on.

Christianity has settled for controll of the lands it already has, which are rich and plentiful, Islam is still prepared to wage the war and is doing so by infiltrating the west with a plan to out breed Christians and becoming the dominant force.

I know my faith leans towards on the mercy of god and not the wrath and judgement but how the fuck do you murder or bomb people into following your way of life?

I agree with Rob you won’t change the minds of those already radicalised, I don’t like to be so defeatist but he’s probably right. So you are left with dealing with the violence and articulating the values that we think work for a functioning society

Yes, that's true, but you have to remember that was over 1500 years ago, the world was a much more violent place back then, with waring factions fighting for control of fruitful lands. There were countless rises of different empires across the globe.

Islam is still fighting to this day, they fight between themselves, and they've also been fighting Russia and the west in Iraq, and Iran and Afghanistan etc
And in the gulf wars, which were basically about oil supplies and the USA's decision to bring about regime change in the middle east and putting in a pro US ruler.

I think Islamic rulers know they cant defeat the west by force of arms. But they can infiltrate the west by numbers of immigrants and therfore change the west to be pro Islamic, and eventually the UK and Europe will become an Islamic state there is strong evidence to support this when you look at the birth rate of the countries that Muslims are moving to, Islamic families always out breed the indigenous population, and eventually overtake them. They are clearly planning for the long term.

Getting back to the wars, there have been a number of wars in the past 2 centuries, WW1, WW2, Vietnam, The Gulf etc. But these havnt been religious based conflicts.
Even today we are hearing about the UK's readiness for war with Russia, and France and Germany are bringing back conscription, which in my mind is rediculous when the real enemy is invading slowly every day and being put up in our very own hotels.
