Reckon we’ll get a few hundred K for each of Allen Bidwell and maybe even Wilson. Sell Sheaf or Eccles plus Lats and BTA maybe. Plus Gus and Vik sell ons that’s probably pushing £15m before you’ve sold any silverware.

no shocks it is more what happens to
Rodrigues
collins
Lati
Simms
Thomas Asante

aswell as some of the older youth team players who are under contract - and hope we hold on to our better players

I expect them all to stay, bar maybe BTA.

I think it's time to move on from Allen. Good pro and cannot fault his effort, but we need better now.

You are not going to get much better as a player who will only be an occasional starter and bench player

Eccles or Sheaf will move in the summer and a new player come in

Of course we can.

We've already got one in Eccles.

Why would Eccles - who has been a regular - settle for that? He will at his age need a move.

Grendel is correct. Allen is a positive influence on the squad, it counts for a lot
On your point I agree, but to suggest you can’t find anyone better as a backup shows a lack of ambition/imagination imo. If the rumours are true that the team are planning to move him on then it would seem they agree.

Who’s better that would come to be backup on his wages?

Cian Tylers instagram post reads pretty tough. Essentially 2.5 years of the same wrist injury that by the looks of it will never heal, and that'll be his career over.

Pretty sure he was due a season long league 1 loan a few years back before this happened and now he's probably gonna have to find a new job.

We had Tom Billson too a few years back who's now a football agent. Life can be tough, being a young footballer requires a fuck load of luck.

Another one is Batwani who was on verge of first team squad and got two footed away at Nuneaton in preseason and missed the entire season and some...very much doubt he'll make it now either.

Then there's Isaacs Moore who's had 2 acls I think and was being heavily linked with Villa at 16

I've seen it within my work at football clubs. I agree that it is a really tough sector to be working in. Many of those players will have been connected with a club from the age of 7 or 8 years of age.
They'll envisage a career of professional football and just one bad injury, their whole career has gone.
That's why it's vital they pursue academic qualifications to the best of their ability. Unfortunately, too many don't!

It doesn't have to be on the same wages.

Obviously we're not going to pay silly wages for someone to sit on the bench, but we're consistently signing players on higher wages and that includes backup/squad players.

Shame for Cian Tyler who was very highly rated. Luke Bell is well thought of.

I’d heard that Isaac Moore has impressed and will be around pre season if he can stay fit. Tough to come back from two ACLs though.

Am I the only slightly sad about Howley? I have a memory of him stepping in at one point when we were in need and he really stepped up and showed promise. Thought he would eventually break through.
It's always sad releasing a young player who has been with the club since whenever, in this case, u7 I think.
Howley was never ever anywhere good enough for Championship Coventry City.

If you look at the list of players who won the same award he did three years ago, you have to be disappointed with how his development has gone in comparison

The job of the Academy is to prepare players for life as professional footballers, which might be League 1, League 2 or even National League and not necessarily our first team

You’ve got some good midfielders in the group; Sheaf, Grimes, Eccles and Torp before getting to Allen.

One of those could be sold but to get a better player, we’d need to be spending a lot of money and there’s areas where we need to spend more money. How many players would be happy to join to potentially be 4-5th choice?

That said, if we could get some cash for Allen, I wouldn’t be against that. If we bring in a consummate pro like Grimes in the changing room, that would make up for the positives he brings to the squad.
