I don’t think it was a serious link at all Ashley loves publicity doesn’t he.
Red Bull were definitely linked I think one of their main men is a big City fan.

That really would have been selling our soul- look what they’ve done with their other clubs, but at the same time would have felt a bit… wrong

Dislike the fans aswell… used to go up and meet up for a beer with a few when we played them and all good fun with them basically taking the piss year after year for losing. Then we got a result up there in the late 90s… wasn’t even a win but they blanked us at the pub after the game … wankers.

Remember them singing 'Your just a town full of p*kis' when we beat them 4 something when Hadji scored a free kick.

Yea Christian Horner the manager of Red Bull racing F1 team. Born and raised in Leamington. Married to Geri Halliwell.

Hes not the one with the dollar, its the 2 blokes above him Helmut Marko and Dietrich Mateschitz so nothing will come of that i dont think

The Mackems had better get promoted this season; otherwise it will drive them to distraction.
Interestingly they (Mackems) are hoping that the current Newcastle squad and manager down tools, as the writing is on the wall for them, and they get relegated,. They are hoping any new January signings may not have time to gel and save them.

Much bigger club than Sunderland

Much bigger club than most PL teams. Sunderland are better supported than half of the PL and pretty much most of The Championship (if not all). Still think there will be an understandable meltdown if they don't get promoted this season. When you look at L1 this season, there are a number of clubs that have support that a lot of Championship teams would be envious of (Pompey, Ipswich, Sheff Wed, Bolton). May well be the highest aggregate attendance ever in that division this year (someone will destroy those figures quickly) Must be the highest attendances for 3rd tier football anywhere?

I don't think so, they're just another super rich club now but they'll ultimately still less attractive than Man Utd, Man City, Chelsea and PSG.

Man city were less attractive 15 years ago than west ham or spurs.

It will change

I also think we give way too much credit to a club that's part of a league that has had 2 winners in 106 years of its 124 year existence.

Ofcourse it's got lots of fans , there's literally just 2 clubs to support up there

Everybody talks about the huge Glasgow celtic , couldn't fill their ground for 75% of their history Screenshot_20211008-103212_Chrome.jpg

As expected the BBC wheeled out Alan Shearer to give his comments

there are two comments that he made that seems at odds to each other

"Their (fans) money hasn't been invested and they've not been consulted. " - so where has it gone because Ashley put in over £100m ? Spent £519m on player purchases let alone the wages bills

then he says

" not Newcastle United fans' fault - they don't get a say in their football club and how it's run."

so he castigates Ashley for not giving the fans a say then accepts the fans get no say? Really cant see the new owners doing more than lip service to fans consultation, just like in any other professional football team. Fans especially in the Premier League are a commercial commodity to exploit what makes anyone think this will be different? Plus the higher up you go the less important in terms of finance fans turning up on matchday are - it becomes more about sponsorship and TV /advertising revenue

But he does get one thing right, their biggest hardship over the last 14 years has been

"We've had no real ambition, we've survived, cup competitions have been non-existent and this city and this football club and our fans deserve better.

Tough being a NUFC fan you know  :ROFLMAO:

I always thought Shearer was decent to be fair, but to state that Newcastle fans have been long suffering is a joke.

Just to reiterate the absolute state of English football.. all I keep seeing now is this richest club league table, because bragging about that is a thing now. Also every social media post about Newcastle now has about 10 comments from random people across the world (mainly Arabs I suppose) to every 1 comment from an actual geordie. The cringiness is almost unbearable.

The mental gymnastics some of their fans are doing to justify this are incredible. Seen more than one person saying other people can't complain about human rights abuses by their new owner as nobody mentioned it before they were taken over. Takes a few seconds on google to find numerous protests against the Saudi's human rights record.

I think we should fuck these out of the game along with some other dodgy owners, maybe a morality clause or something in the owners test. But I also don't think it is up to the people of Newcastle who just want to support their team to stand up against the Saudis when our own government can't do it.

If I was them I'd be more worried about becoming one of those hollow super clubs full of tourists and no soul.

There is no real drive the football authorities to change anything and whilst the media and fans fawn over multi billionaires "saving" their club nothing will change. Being pragmatic though how do the English football authorities who have comparatively little wealth in terms of cash take on the power and resource of multi billionaires? - its not going to happen.

NUFC fans in reality are not much different to any other fans including our own. Hope it works out for them. Just stop bleating about how hard done by you have been simply because you haven't won something. Many clubs have been through a lot worse CCFC, Portsmouth etc or like Hereford, Macclesfield etc don't exist anymore

May be wrong, but I always thought that Rangers were the bigger club in Glasgow & perhaps Scotland as well, but Celtic have the bigger worldwide support partly due to the Irish thing about them.

It's meaningless though isn't it ? Benfica have the whole of Brazil supporting them due to Brazil being Portuguese speaking

I agree, the worldwide Irish support thing is so overplayed.

I wouldn’t say it’s meaningless if we’re talking about their potential if they joined the Premier League & had money put in- they’d be absolutely enormous, way bigger than Newcastle
