I agree a bit, to jump from L2 to Championship is a big thing. Armstrong looks good in L1 and when he came back to Blackburn 2nd half of last season he was good, but in the Championship he struggled, I would expect McNulty to struggle there too.

In all fairness to Armstrong he was injured frequently during his time at Barnsley then struggled to get back into the side and at Bolton he was largely playing on the wing in and was playing in a pretty poor side.

Also heard that the agent is apparently leaking things to the press to make sure it is through.
Again, take it with a pinch of salt.
For the rumoured £1.2m upfront, I am ok with this. Although the club should hold out for that £2m - met one way or the other.
Regardless of what happens, I trust Robins to find a replacement.

His biggest issue is that he's not an athlete whatsoever. This is why I think he'll struggle.

Shame, I'd of liked him to stay but if the £1.5m reports are true, he's replaceable. Personally I'd use it to get McGoldrick back. Pretty much Garunteed (fully fit) he'll smash 25+ goals in a full L1 season! I'm sure he'd come back too. Especially with his wife wanting to stay around the Midlands.

How much money do you realistically think we can hold out for a 25 year old striker who’s only really proven in L2? Every player has a price — even Christiano Ronaldo is set to leave Madrid.
That’s more than we sold Jutkiewicz and Leon Clarke.

I don't think comparing sale prices with the pitiful values we've received for players previously really works. We should have held out for as much as we could possibly get.

Exactly. If you actually look at some of the top strikers currently in the Championship they all have an athletic trait/s that make them excel at their level. Vydra is quick and agile, Grabban is tall, strong and quick, L. Clarke is tall and strong, Bobby Reid is quick, strong, tall, can jump his height, and his fitness is top draw.
McNulty is average to poor in pretty much all of these traits.

He's 30 yes, but he's got good experience and a higher level and will score goals. Garunteed.

It is a bit rich seeing fans complaining about ‘loyalty’ when where was the loyalty towards McNulty when he wasn’t in fine goalscoring form? We’ve got an archive of threads and comments even as far as January saying we needed a ‘natural goalscorer’.
With the fee involved, I’m not that annoyed because it’s about fair and should give us extra wriggle room in the transfer market. There’s no guarantees he’d do that well in L1 anyway — Marquis who scored 26 the year before scored 12 in L1 last season. But it goes without saying that I’d be sad to see him go, but that’s football.

sad news but its a food chain and we aren't too high up it sadly. I hoped he would have stayed the 1 more year at least but hey its his life and he has do right by himself and his family. he had a great season for us and we should thank him and move on hoping we get the incoming players right..

No your right. When you relegated or standing stagnant you fully expect to lose a few players in the summer. But after a promotion, with a team so close, it comes as a surprise when somebody leaves. Especially (like with this instance) the player has tried to speed it along.

What the fuck are you talking about? Robins stayed loyal to him despite his non-scoring form, as did most of the fanbase (a few comments on social media isn't the end of the world). This is how he repays that faith. It leaves a very very sour taste for me.

Would be fine with him leaving if it was a) an offer we couldn't turn down, b) was to a huge club or c) he wasn't blatantly angling for a move after one season here. However, none of those are true so therefore no well wishes from me, hope he enjoys a relegation battle in a poor side next season.

Yes I know. Still, with a full pre season and managed properly I can see it working. It's a different league to the championship played at a different pace so could maybe suit him?!?! Who knows. I'm no manager, just saying I'd take a punt on him

I think most who actually watched the games supported him and said give him time, it was the muppets like Dongo who had never been to a game and those on social media who were obsessed with James Collins who were slating him.

It’s clear that McNulty has great awareness within a game, but he’s not a great athlete. He looks like he gains weight easily and it’s notable that his improved performances came later in the season, after some great coaching and lifestyle management.

I saw McGoldrick down at Ipswich a few times last year, he is a class player on the ball and very intelligent but it would be his pace that would worry me alongside his injury record. I think we all agree that fully fit he would be a huge asset
