"In 1887 Sunderland beat Middlesbrough 4-2 in an early round of the FA Cup. Middlesbrough protested that three of Sunderland's players (Monaghan, Hastings and Richardson) were living in Scotland and was lodged at the Royal Hotel at the club's expense. In January 1888, the Football Association examined the Sunderland books and discovered "a payment of thirty shillings in the cash book to Hastings, Monaghan and Richardson for train fares from Dumfries to Sunderland". Sunderland was kicked out of the FA Cup and ordered to pay the expenses of the inquiry. The three players concerned were each suspended from football in England for three months."

You cheating Northern bastards!!!! :claping hands:

We should have had a member of our board on the investigation panel, doh!

Thank god for that.

Had you beaten Everton away at Goodison you wouldn't have to have spent the last 35 years revelling in bitterness. Your destiny was in your own hands-you lost, you went down. How you come to the conclusion that we cheated in '97 is anyone's guess :jerkit:

Was it Algeria's fault they failed to qualify for the later stages of the 1982 World Cup? After all if they had won ALL their games then the contrived fix of a draw between Austria and West Germany would not have effected them at all? So surely it was all their own fault?

I'm sure Algerians all over the world have been plotting to take Vienna and Berlin in retaliation-a foolproof plan 30 years in the making. Algeria hadn't lost any of their games though, if memory serves-your team had been persistently crap throughout the season and lost a game it had to win-silly me, I forgot that Jimmy got a brace for Everton that day.

What Chinny Hill did that day was dishonest. And yet he comes on telly talking about how to play the game fairly & sportsmanship etc. The man is a total hypocrite

Ever heard the term 'you reap what you sow'? We had a very good side during that 1977 season who had picked up form dramatically to come back from nowhere and could have gone on to establish our place in the top flight over the following few years. Instead we went down and had to dismantle that team, while you lot had another 15 years in the top flight, yet you 'can't fathom'!!!

If you go around acting like billy big bollocks then its hardly surprising nobody cares when you fall on hard times;)

you had a really good team? you got trelegated because you got less points than everyone else, end of

The one that states that all games on the final day of the season must kick off at the same time

You're missing the point that we had to win irrespective of your own result-so kicking off late, which would've been a decision made by Spurs, wouldn't have given any extra advantage.

Our record in the 17 games leading up to that night was Won 9 Drew 6 and lost 2. You are of course correct that we must have been crap as we were not clear of Coventry before you fixed your match and that was remiss of us in hindsight.

Look mate, we would have taken it on the chin if you had drawn fair and square having tried to win the game. Nobody at Sunderland would have had an issue with that, but that's not how it was and you ALL KNOW IT.

26 posts and counting! Boy, you must like us! That's dedication! By the way, I noticed a typo on your many posts. It says "We are Sunderland and we were shit on". I think it should read "We are Sunderland and we are shit!".
Now fuck off to bed or you'll be late for school!

How much of your "Housing Benefits" and Job seeker allowance are you donating to the planned "fly over the Ricoh" stunt ?

I'm confused about your user name, why would you name yourself after the main characters horse from the computer game shadow of colossus? Surely aggro would have been more apt for a knuckle dragger of your caliber!

And I am equally sure that the bile on an Algerian football forum towards Germany and Austria will be every bit as much as what you are currently witnessing.

Could not agree more.

And you DID cheat. There is plenty of evidence to that effect including an interview on you tube of a Bristol City player joking about the banter between both sets of players at the end of the game. 'Get in your own half, you are not allowed in here'.

This is half the problem mate. You just can't bring yourselves to admit it. Some of you have and said so what. I respect them a miniscule bit more than zero, but it's more nontheless.

And your record in all the games prior to the 17 final ones must've been pretty shocking for you to have been in with a shout come the final game. Look at it this way-nobody here would question that what happened wasn't in the spirit of the game, but for goodness' sake man, LET IT GO. Your boys were in the driving seat and they messed up; get over it. Funny that all the Sunderland fans I've met from the current generation don't have any beef with Cov at all...

answer me this. What if it was the other way round? What would the Sunderland players have done to stay in the top league? Would they have gone for the win and risked losing the game to get relegated?

After 41 games we were not in the bottom three. After you and Bristol City fixed a convenient draw, we were. What part of that do you not understand?
