Not much better informed than anyone who didn't miss a game last season. I only saw about 20 games live but saw all the rest on iPlayer. I lost count on how many howlers led to goals. I don't care what anyone says. Collins and Wilson are just not good enough for a team going for promotion.

And how much did McFadz have to do with this? He was our rock in defence. Look at how many times he put his body in the way including getting his head stitched up then coming back on the pitch.

It's a Frank Lampard decision. Both are still here. Let's see what happens. I also think Wilson has been harshly criticised in the past and lots of fans went overboard on bigging Collins up. Wilson has been the non playing number 2 for most of his career. There is a reason for that and it’s because he was understudy to Allison or Ederson is it.

he had one great season behind a really good championship defence but let’s not get it twisted, he’s a back up keeper.

If we only sign one more player this summer - and even if it’s a loan - I hope it’s a decent keeper. Wilson is a great bloke but average at best keeper as we saw in the play-offs. I’m a big fan of Dovin and hope he recovers well enough to pick up where he left off pre-ACL.

We didn’t make the play off final in spite of Wilson though, he was fine that season and surprised us.

I also don’t think he makes constant mistakes. We could do better but IMO it doesn’t make sense to spend again on a keeper when Dovin is likely back in January.

Perhaps I am picking up on the general mood of the board rather than you specifically. But as it stands and at the moment Lampard appears to be sticking by Wilson and Collins. So until that changes, yes I would back either if they started.

Also moving either on isn't as easy as it might appear to some of the fan base.

Personally I don't think Wilson is a liability, he is a very good second choice keeper and yes sometimes you have to depend on your second choices.

I think he came back well not sure how long Dovin will be out for but he's earned a chance to start the season - don't think Lampard sees it a priority......I'm actually more worried about up top with how our "stars" Simms and Wright finished the season tbh!

I'm unsure why Wilson gets so much hate on this forum. Whilst maybe not the best keeper in the league, I think he is a far better keeper than many on here are ever willing to give credit to.

Equally which keeper that's considered an upgrade to the extent that some posters on the forum desire, will want to come on loan for maybe 6 months, to then sit on the bench when Dovin returns. Surely they will want assurances of game time for a more sustained period ?

Wilson is more than fine IMHO. I agree fully with johnwillomagic about his biggest concern been our strike force. That is the most pressing area for change as we can't carry on relying on everyone other than our strikers to be scoring.

We have a budget to keep to. We don't know what it is. Lampard will do the best with what he has. So I, like many others, would like to see a better GK come in. If it doesn't happen then whoever is in goal will get my backing. Who in their right mind would have a go at something they know nothing about?

Also Dovin isn’t playing outfield, he’ll return quicker, more like December/Jan, so could still play a major part in the season.

His confidence and mental side might take a while but physically it’s nothing like the return to playing that an outfield player would go through.

Wish this were true but modern goalies need to do nearly as much dynamic twisting and turning as outfield players - see the injury incident.

He will take about the same amount of time as an outfield player, and won't be allowed to play until he has passed rigorous mentality/confidence testing too

It is pretty clear Dovin is the future and is going to be first choice when he is back fit, other than a 38/39 year old veteran who is coming to the end of his career and wanting one last payday and possibly has an eye on starting a coaching career I can't think of many keepers who would be excited at the prospect of signing for us knowing that there is every chance when Dovin is fit they will be on the bench

In an ideal world Collins would be off and we would bring someone else in but who is going to pay to take Collins off our hands? He ended the season at confidence rock bottom and woefully out of form, there are plenty of other options out there that other clubs could sign for free

Think we are stuck with what we have got for the season, I am not against Wilson in until Dovin is up to speed personally as despite what people say on here there is a whole lot of difference when he is in the team over Collins, he is miles better and I can't believe people didn't think we looked a much more comfortable side in the Boro game and first and second legs of the play-offs than we had the weeks prior

It’s nonsense to think that a club that makes a loss outside of player sales will spend yet more money on a goalkeeper. The loan argument perhaps, but taking young keepers on loan also seems a major risk.

Removing all bias, statistically he’s fine too isn’t he. 47% clean sheet record, save percentage above average for the division. His distribution is weak and he’s not as good as Dovin generally. We literally made the play offs with him in net all season and he kept the most clean sheets in the division.

If you think he’s a fine keeper for the Championship, especially one that’s seriously trying to get promoted, then I don’t really know what else to say.

The with Wilson is inconsistency ( apart from that one season). Plays very well against Middlesbrough then has hands of clay against Sunderland at home. He can have a couple of good games then some poor ones.

There’s studies that have shown this to be true, including a Uefa lead one. Moreover whilst modern day goalkeeping is demanding, it’s common sense that a goalkeeper will not be exposed to the same demands (on the knee) as an outfield players.

Laughable - we’re not Chelsea. We spent seven figures on a young keeper, we don’t have the resources to write that off and go bigger.

We have 25 games to play before January. It’s hardly “setting fire to your money”. Plenty of keepers would relish the chance of holding down a starting job at a team pushing for promotion, it’s not like we’d sack them off in January if we’re top of the league.

We have to work on the assumption that Dovin may be toast. The club has a window of opportunity to get promoted and we shouldn’t compromise it out of loyalty to a young keeper with one functioning ACL and less than 30 games for us.
