Spurs game I ended up paying £91 for our three tickets - whereas it was £75 this time.

I may have missed the spurs priority window though by an hour or so though hence the higher price

It did affect attendance as was under 25k and was on telly.

I would love to see the generational split stats on this fixture. I'm in my mid 40s and I bet there will be a much higher proportion of supporters in their 40s/50s/60s who see it as a big game who have been waiting 25 years to give them some payback who are desperate to go. Then there is the younger generation. Too young to remember the bitter rivalry (it was, don't play it down, who can remember the delight we had when we eventually won at Villa Park in 1998 in the cup) and who see Leicester and even Sunderland as our main rivalries.

We'll see, but I will be disappointed if it doesn't sell out.

On the actual footballing side, if I were Lampard I would be grateful for this extra fixture. Gives a good opportunity to test things out with lots of new players

I generally agree with all of this....

I think a little bit of the "apathy" that seems to be surrounding the game stems from..... we've waited 25 years to play them, and i think the December home game would have that sense of occasion.... but this Cup game being almost "meaningless" its taken a bit of the shine off both fixtures to some extent.

From my point of view, i hope i can get a ticket, it might be another 25 years before we play them again!

Presumably you took no delight in the 4-1 win away, or Moldovan's winner there in the cup? Both gave you the same satisfaction as a 1-0 win at Plough Lane?

I've always thought of Villa as a bigger rival than Leicester. The Leicester one feels a bit manufactured over the last 20-25 years whilst both of us have spent large chunks of time in the football league.

No matter what we individually think of Villa, Leicester, even Sunderland nowadays.... there's no denying these games have more bite than standard fixtures.

Whilst in my younger days i'd have wished for nothing but misfortune and Villa/Leicester going out of business..... nowadays i'd love to see a Premier League (or championship for that matter) with City/Villa/Blues/Leicester/Wolves/Forest/Sunderland.... they're always more anticipated and enjoyable.

It absolutely bewildered me the other year when we got Wolves away in the FA Cup QF, and got written off as a "shit draw"....... Wolves at Molineux is a great fixture and a bit of a derby with some history..... turned out to be (in my opinion) the absolute highlight of our 25 years outside the top division.

In my mid-40s, so i wasn't really aware of much Leicester rivarly as a kid.... they were typically a lower division club. For me it was always Villa as we played them every year, and trips to Villa Park could be pretty vicious.

For those 10 years younger than me it was probably Leicester again.

My dad (in his 70's) would be adamant that Wolves were always the rivals.

We can only see it through our own experiences. But as i said above, all of them are tastier than average.

Yes because not disliking Aston Villa means that beating them brings me no joy. I expect I'll hate it if we beat Brighton on Sunday for the same reason....

Your last paragraph is true, midlands clubs v Midland clubs always have a bit more needle, but it still doesnt make them proper derby games like blues v villa is.

yes and £25 for 65+ and young adults, £20 for kids - attendance was 24.6k which suggests they got it wrong 2 years ago too
for those wanting to do the maths with reduced pricing, it's not about the small revenue £'s gains - it's about filling our stadium imo

I'm mid 40s too. And living in Nuneaton theirs tons of villa fans. It was always the villa. I went to villa park a few times and like you say it was always pretty vicious.

Tbf 40 years ago there was mayhem between most sets of fans , especially midlands rivals including Wolves, Brum, etc. I remember being at game against Portsmouth at Highfield road with them throwing bottles at us and causing trouble and fighting in the ground, and Leeds ripping up seats and fighting in the ground.
