To be fair they are not even on general sale yet. At the moment the empty seats look to be because a fair proportion of our season ticket holders are maybe not as loyal as they sometimes make themselves out to be! Perhaps DK should have docked season ticket holders 50 points if they choose not to go to the game Hopefully it will fill up more once it does hit general sale though.

Tbf 40 years ago there was mayhem between most sets of fans , especially midlands rivals including Wolves, Brum, etc. I remember being at game against Portsmouth at Highfield road with them throwing bottles at us and causing trouble and fighting in the ground, and Leeds ripping up seats and fighting in the ground.

I know I’m being pedantic but that Pompey game was 2001. Hardly 40 years ago.

The Pompey trouble was down to a fight up Whitley Bay in the 90’s where a Pompey lad was done badly by Cov. They waited for the football to get revenge. Nothing to do with too bugle. Back then football was different

Villa next week won’t be as bad as when we played Villa last for trouble in May 01.

It’s funny really. Last time we played them at home midweek we won they and only sold the upper tier of the M&B lol

We are season ticket holders who can’t make this game. We’re away and we are already delayed the trip to allow us to get to the rearranged Brighton game. Disappointed because every chance to see us play Villa is meaningful for me. They are the rivals I remember more than Leicester .

When it went on sale to members there were 12.5K available.

That must mean that around 15.5/16K of home tickets had been sold in the initial ST window, so about 2/3rds.

Still 9.9K available and barely any have shifted since 10:30am yesterday.

Exactly this. £100 on tickets, £40 on fuel, £25 on having to feed the kids as theyll be leaving pretty much straight from school to get there and £10 for parking. Plus half a day unpaid at work to be able to get there, and a late night for a 6yo on a school night. Just not feasible in the slightest.

No, but the ludicrous pricing for an early round game in the Carabou cup is though. For the £32 for an adults ticket is what id expect to pay for me and a 6yo (£20 and £10) at this stage. And the fact that so many tickets are still unsold, even against the Villa, suggests a lot of people are all thinking the exact same thing.

85% of all home league tickets are sold to STHs before the season has even started. For an early round League Cup tie likely to be played about between two sets of squad players it has to be priced right to stimulate demand. Somebody did some research and it seems that most PL teams are charging £15/£5? We're a ridiculous outlier.

If it's purely the money, save money on the food and park somewhere for free. £30 saved, free ticket. That's how my stingy brain sees it

Yeah very similar. £30 for season ticket holders and £37 for non-season ticket holders for the Spurs game.

Also, the price of the tickets are agreed between both Coventry and Villa.

I think the difference with Spurs was it was a chance to test ourselves against a big PL side and it was more of a novelty. If it was Villa last season would 100% have sold out by now even at higher prices. The difference is we are now PL and have a big game every week including Villa twice this season so the appeal is less.

Doug wanted to maximise revenue but I think he got this one wrong .We've bought, we're lucky we can, but so soon after season tickets, shirt sales, holidays, kids on a school night, I think it could have been lower for what will essentially be lots of fringe players, whoever the opposition.

Hopefully a few more go yet - I know some people who are waiting to buy in other areas as their season tickets are in the £40 section and no concessions, that's also a mistake for this one I think.

I get it but they were / are on sale on the 3rd to ST Holders, 8th to Members and 11th to all supporters. I'm not sure the payday sale would make much difference?

This is where the loyalty points are worth it, same as Plymouth away for the round before.

People also forgetting that there were only 24K at the Spurs game. The pricing impacted demand for that game too.

I doubt price is that much of a factor.

These sorts of games are a rare opportunity for many fans to actually attend a game this season. There’s very little opportunity for many games given the restrictions.

I’m not going and it’s nothing to do with price. I just can’t be bothered with the hassle of leaving work and getting there and then back after the stupid road closures. I do object to the car park pricing but just on a principle.

We shouldn’t need to discount the product at this level

I suspect we will we end up with 'local' Villa in amongst the City, once it reaches the general sale option, Preferably not, but bound to be some fans who'll help a 'mate' out. I know of a ST holder who will be buying about 3 extra tickets for family, all City fans, who want to watch us play Villa. Hopefully there are enough similar who will help swell the crowd a bit.

Some of them will have justifiable reason of course, but most of the 9,000 or so season ticket holders that aren't going are likely to live around Cov, and if the game was at Villa Park would probably have been desperate for tickets, using their ongoing 'loyalty' as justification for doing so. I just find it a bit rich that a number of posters who proclaim every cup draw as being a shit one, or were begging for this exact draw before it was made, and bigging it up after it was made, are now finding excuses not to go.
