Dude, read my posts. Of course there’s a lot of geopolitics going on here.

@Captain Dart shared a noteworthy Twitter thread.

I’ll answer it. Maduro is a ‘socialist’ and most staunchest of criticism Trump’s intervention are mostly left wing. It’s convenient to frame the Trump administrations as ‘imperialist’. Ironically, there’s a blindness of China’s actions in South America.

In truth, Maduro’s regime in Venezuela is indefensible.

There is a precedent in international law to remove dictators, in WW2 we were committed to not only restoring lost territories, but to overthrowing a ‘illegitimate’ and evil Nazi regime. Just because we teamed up with the USSR does not make that war wrong.
Have you really gone for Godwin's law? 🤦‍♂️ And have you forgotten who and how WW2 started?

This is the most ridiculous justification of what Trump has just done.

No, it’s invoking WW2 to justify Trump’s actions. It is, however, referenced as Nazism was rightfully identified as a cancer that needed to be defeated. It became more than the territorial disputes.

Notwithstanding, if there were viable plans to take out Putin, Xi, Kim Jong-Un that would not lead to WW3 and viable succession plans existed… then of course that would be justifiable.

With Maduro, there’s conflicting reports whether or not he was ‘captured’ as claimed by Trump or a ‘negotiated exit’ as claimed by the Venezuelan opposition. After all, just yesterday Maduro had said he’d be ‘open to a deal’ with Trump.

Crikey the US have got a lot more world policing to do and a lot of heads of state to capture if a country possessing machine guns is a crime

This is apparently the 'grown up' version of politics, kidnapping a leader and charging him with crimes on arrival on your own soil. Whereas the bloodthirsty war criminal Benjamin Netanyahu has the welcome mat rolled out with golden plates for tea.

It has to be a negotiated exit. There is no way they just swan in with a couple of helicopters and pick him up with zero casualties (on either side) and zero air defence.

Will you ever answer the question of whether or not Maduro won the election in 2018 legitimately or not?

You dodge the question by saying ‘Putin feels that way about Zelensky’, when Putin did try to take out Zelensky as the Russia army tried to march on Kyiv and now Netanyahu.

I didn’t dodge it, I rank his electoral integrity alongside Trump’s. He doesn’t accept losing elections either.

If it is a ‘negotiated exit’ then perhaps everyone clutching their pearls should maybe pause on that.

Maria Corina Machado, the Venezuelan opposition leader, was on Fox News talking about trusting ‘Trump’s Plan’ for Venezuela which which suggests the opposition has been briefed and there’s a plan for a new government.

At some point, Maduro was going to be ousted so if he’s had to opportunity to get out alive, he’d be wise to take it.

She’s seems like an honourable leader but hopefully power won’t corrupt

That’s just a ridiculous thing say and a complete falsehood. Trump won in 2016 and 2024 fairly.

Maduro did not.

Condemn Trump for Jan 6th, it’s fair game. It really isn’t in the same league as the likes of Putin, Maduro or the mullahs in Iran.

Isn’t it? Besides Jan 6th there’s the recorded phone calls of him trying to press gang state officials, the fake elector slates they had drawn up to steal the election had Mike Pence gone along with it, the endless bogus lawsuits filed to intimidate those in other states, and so on and so forth.

Jair Bolsonaro tried similar stunts in Brazil, he’s in prison now. Trump should be too.

You never know with these deified leaders in exile. They can become just as bad as the regimes they replace.

Mugabe was once a ‘sir’ and ‘freedom fighter’, Aung San Suu Kyi is a Nobel peace prize winner, now on trial for genocide…

After all, Maduro himself was once a legitimately elected leader of Venezuela in 2013.

Did he hold onto the post past the term date? No.

Did he contest the next elections fairly? Yes.

Your point doesn't actually capture is that the US system (decouple from the officeholder) worked exactly as intended.

That’s the bottom line and the comparison to actual dictators is bemusing.

I was wondering the same. Trump clearly only ever has a vague grasp of what’s going on which is why his off the cuff remarks and speeches are always so chaotic.
