Also calling a reporter a 'slimeball' for reporting that he called war dead losers and suckers. Something that has been confirmed since by other sources.

You'd think that'd get his base riled as they're largely pro-military but it won't happen. It's amazing how a bunch of people who consider themselves the bastion of patriotism can't see the person they support to run the country doesn't care in the slightest about America.

I can definitely see the thinking behind that and will be true for some people.

But the point is people seem to have heard about stuff that supports their view or opinion but haven't heard stuff that doesn't. You see supporters of a particular party/person talking about certain aspects of a campaign/policy. Which says they are engaging to some degree and just being selective. Daily Show used to do it all the time - get Trump supporters talking about a particular policy then pointing out how Trump was doing the complete opposite or how the Democrats were doing that policy.

I can see how that could happen with favouring certain media/publications and social media keeping you in the bubble but that's not being engaged/not engaged. It's about being selective in what you chose to believe.

If you're not engaging at all you'd have no idea who to vote for because you'd have no idea what anyone stood for. Not that plenty of those people don't exist. Voting is just turning up and ticking the same box you've always ticked.

Was thinking that when I heard the news. Been expecting it for a while and hoped she could hang on post election.

Given that the Reps blocked Obama's pick last time as he was a 'lame duck' president I'm sure the Dem would hold up any pick of Trump's until post election. The irony that both sides will be arguing the complete opposite case that they did last time, although it will be fun seeing McConnell arguing why Trump should get this pick after blocking Obama's.

Massively important that if it is blocked Dem's win the election, or you end up with a 6-3 Conservative hold on the Supreme Court and there will likely be a massive step backwards in many people's rights, esp women, gay, trans. Even things like science, with an increased likelihood of creationism being given greater prominence in schools.

Whole 'job for life' thing in Supreme Court is ridiculous anyway. Needs a term limit introducing.

Ridiculous that the nominations are made by the president in what is supposed to be an independent judiciary.

Nearly all Presidential appointees and so reflect the hue of the incumbent President.
One of the biggest jokes is how Americans hold up the Constitution and its enforcement by the SC as the ultimate free democratic process and then have it interpreted by these individuals often on the basis of their own political leanings.

Also in regards to social media I saw an interesting article (which I can try and find again if needed) which basically confirmed twitter is an echo chamber, mostly used by the extreme sections of each political party.

The article states that only 11% of democratic voters when asked actually hold the same beliefs as many of the opinions which Boom on twitter, and most democratic voters view the Twitter opinions of Democrats as extreme.

This also holds true in regards to republicans.

It also goes a long way in explaining the constant level of anger and fear on some social media sites about politics that do not hold any weight with the general population...
Take the 2016 brexit referendum, also the general election where most polls on twatter were showing Labour winning with 70% of the vote, and ofcourse the US election of 2016...

Social media has created an imaginary sense of reality when it comes to what people want or believe and therefore creates more anger and desperation from the very people on the platforms...

In short : most people don't resonate with politics on social media, its an echo chamber and is in no way a representation of what people actually think

It wouldn't surprise me if his legitimate businesses were all massive failures and he relied on his TV work and less salubrious means to maintain his wealth.

I don’t know the answer but it pisses me off that he can live like that while officially being poorer than me. I didn’t make any money once you take out all my expenses either!

Going by everything I've read and heard I would be surprised if it's that to be honest, he really is a shit businessman. I like your version better though, be hilarious to see him get caught doing that.

But then I guess it explains why he's dropping hints about not going quietly & trying to fix the election with postal votes etc- he knows that if he's voted out its going to be an absolute field day against him.

There could well be something in that. Alan Sugar often tells the story how Trump used to tell people that Alan Sugar was his employee. When they met he had Trump about it and Trump started playing the I’m wealthier than you card and Alan Sugar challenged him that they should both write the other a personal cheque for $1M and see who’s clears. Trump refused the offer with a heap of excuses for why he couldn’t.

there's rumours that he's trying to cut such a deal with Biden to go quietly if he loses which ties up with all the rhetoric he's coming out with at the moment, (I've only started really looking in to this in the last few months and there's so much shit on the man it's incredible).

Biden has said he won't do such a deal but it might be worth it just to stop the country from going even more mental.

I think bank syndicates owns most of his businesses on paper, the only thing he owns is the right to manage them businesses. Much the same as the Glaziers.

A lot of his construction is now actually him licencing the Trump name to third parties, he doesn't actually build much himself. It's brought him into the orbit of some interesting characters.

The only thing that gives me hope is that the black vote won’t be suppressed with fake news like it clearly was in 2016, coupled with the BLM movement means that the black vote recovers from 2016 and makes the difference. Without that I think Trump still has every chance.

Key voter issue is going to be the economy.
Trump can "ride out" BLM as that's not his original support base. COVID will be not what's happened but what happens next to get people back to work.

It's not maybe... ethical, but in his own way, Trump is a good debater. He throws in so much chaos, he drags people down to his level, but it's Trump's messages that are heard by those who are disposed to them.

I agree. He does that well. Just like he makes it impossible to stick anything to him because he's constantly doing something else stupid and outrageous and the the previous talking point gets forgotten. Whereas others with small individual transgressions constantly get them brought up again and again because the focus never gets removed from it.

Priti Patel at the moment has the number thing, which was literally just stumbling over words and nothing much. But it's removed focus on her dodgy clandestine Israeli meetings on holiday and her horrific immigration views which are far worse as they reflect her actual personality. Meanwhile take the likes of Abbott's maths or Raab realising Dover was an important port. Trump says a dozen thinks like this before lunchtime and you can't remember them all because it's just a constant stream of nonsense that continually deflects.

You can tell it's something that Johnson is trying to emulate to some extent with some success but it'd getting harder and harder for him to keep the batshit crazy train going. Trump does it effortlessly because, well, he is batshit crazy.
