edit. both massive cities, both have good and bad areas. Anything you are running away from in Manchester is going to be in London as well.

I’ve been up here 38 years now and Manchester was brilliant. The people as friendly as you would like. In the last 10 years the demographics has changed so much it’s not recognisable. If you don’t know the city centre you could end up in trouble. It’s not safe anymore.

I agree with all of what you've said. I think some people class going to a city as going to the Wetherspoons near the train station or parking in an industrial/housing estate near a new build stadium, walking straight into the ground and saying what a shithole. To summarise any city based on a 20 minute view is childish.

I live in Chester now but partner's family are from South Manchester, and I've visited and enjoyed some great trips to Chorlton, Didsbury, Altrincham etc. There's a vibrant music/stand up comedy scene, restaurants and great nights out to be had across the Northern Quarter, all within a 25 minute walk of the train station if some people could be bothered to go beyond the Piccadilly Tavern.

I don't think there's any new build stadiums that are in good areas, and neither HR or the CBS were/are in metropolitan hotspots.

I did the Didsbury Dozen (12 pubs) in the summer - very pleasant day and felt safe, though I appreciate not all parts of Manchester (or any other city) are as nice and friendly.

Seems to have become cool to be down on London.. not my choice of a place to live but a fantastic visit… everything you need for a decent weekend, personally have never got any trouble .. what’s not to like … prefer Liverpool to Manchester but that just a personal preference …

London has got shit in the last 5-10 years with licensing laws being tightened due to NIMBY fucks.

You used to be able to go wherever and have a good night but now the whole place is shut early unless you know where you're going.

I live in Manchester, actually Manchester. Its quality, to suggest otherwise is mental, theres a clear reason it's the fastest growing city center and metropolitan area in general in the UK (and you can find the demographics online about who they are before you start any migrant nonsense). It's regularly awarded best city in the UK for nightlife and other things in stuff like timeout.

I get Piccadilly gardens is rough as fuck and the satellite towns like Bury, Oldham etc are run down (like most small towns in the UK) but just because you don't like it is mad to say the whole place is a shit hole. I live in South Manchester and it's the insanely middle-class. I don't particularly like London and there's parts that are rough as fuck, but I I'd be mad to let that anger me enough to say something silly like it's shit there.

Bury is a nice place has a good town centre.

Bury is not a nice place. The centre was ruined when they expanded The Rock. The council spent shit loads on the Market which needed it, and millions on a cycle lane that no one uses. The outskirts of Manchester ( Didsbury , Ramsbottom Holcomb Brooke and Greenmount ) safe and decent for nights out.
