It takes me at least 48 hours to even start to recover these days. The joys of getting older.

If I laid out all of my feelings about vaping, I think I'd lose a lot of friends

Everybody knows that smoking tobacco is awful and quite anti social, yet somehow with vaping they've come up with something arguably worse

There's a culture of "rules and ettiquettes simply don't apply to me" around vaping that I cannot stand. At least cigarette smokers have the good grace to excuse themselves outside/away from the group when it's time to light up, vapers can't go longer than 11 seconds without puffing away and do it wherever they happen to be sitting/standing

It's when the vape needs to be in the hand constantly as well as if to show it off.

A roll up behind the ear was classier

6 different routes I can take to work all have major road works on them at the moment.

Next week they're closing the road on the one remaining route I can take that doesn't have roadworks.

I used a self serve checkout and expected £15 change from a £20 note.
There was only a £10 note in the change dispenser so I called the assistant over and queried that.
She printed out my receipt, the change expected was as I said and then proceeded to call her manager.
Then she looked down and noticed the expected fiver on the floor under my feet.
It must had been shot out before the tenner (which I saw emerge).
I think my attention was on press the no receipt required button when it was ejected.

Had a bad cold at the start of the week and decided not to go to a concert in Birmingham on Wednesday because I wasn't feeling up for it. Luckily, I bought ticket protection insurance!

I need a note from my GP to get my money back. I called them up and they made three things clear:

1. The GP would not have agreed to see me for cold symptoms and Reception would have told me to take over-the-counter medication or speak to a pharmacist.

2. The GP will not write me a letter or sign a form confirming that I had cold symptoms because I didn't make an appointment

3. Even if the GP agreed to write a letter or sign a form, it's £35 to write a letter (60% of what I paid for the tickets) or £65 to fill in an insurance form (more than I paid for the tickets)

Said it before but we're not fixing the NHS until we fix GPs (add in walk in centres and minor injuries to the mix). Need to be 7 days a week and much longer hours.

Walsgrave have declared a critical incident and told people to stop turning up to A&E. Problem is they say go to your GP, you can't get an appointment or they're closed because its not office hours, or phone 111, who invariably tell you to go to A&E to cover themselves.

If you could just walk in somewhere and see someone relatively quickly, or phone up and know you'll get a same day appointment even if its out of office hours, you'd make a huge difference.

Yep. What’s changed? It didn’t used to be like this. Is it the number of GPs decreasing or what?

I was thinking in part for me but also my old man, who is 80 and got shingles.
He could not get an appt via the phone - dunno how hard he tried as I imagine he would have been very pissed, very quickly with this. Then he and my mum couldn’t figure out how to use the online system they’ve got - so he just took himself down there first thing in the morning as they opened up…and ‘explained’ it to them.
Fair play, he’s ‘still got it’ but he was actually really not well and shouldn’t have to do that.
He’s still a belligerent old git.

Gps are all about the money though as well.

Not everybody can ring up and hold for 45 minutes at 8am. Thought starmer had scrapped that?

There were changes promised last February that would were claimed would show a difference in 6 to 12. The main change seemed to be being able to book appointments, particularly routine appointments, online and in advance.

Things is both those things happened pre-covid, at least at my surgery, and worked well. They were switched off when covid hit and have never been reinstated.

There used to be pretty much every GP at the surgery on there and a range of appointments. Now, since this great change, when there is appointments its a choice of one or two random times with a GP you've never seen before at a partner surgery on the other side of the city. Not sure that's going to be much help.

The partner surgery thing is a fucking ballache. Must be exponentially worse if you can’t drive.

Entirely possible that this would end up being a silver bullet of sorts. Can’t say I know much about the history of GP surgeries but didn’t there used to be regular OOH provision? My mum tells me about getting the doctor round at 2am for me when I was a baby.

Travelled from Bedworth to Griff Island yesterday after 2 o'clock a journey of 2 miles it took 3 quarter of an hour.Reason a police car had broken down at the lights on the said island in the 2nd lane.Instead of closing just lane 2 the coppers closed lanes 2 and 3 forcing traffic into lane 1,not only that the position they placed the cones caused chaos and so many near misses with traffic heading for Coventry. The 2 coppers just standing in the coned off area sharing a joke.No joke for anyone inconvenienced by this. A little proper traffic management might have helped

The standard GMS contract doesn't cover out of hours. It is commissioned under a separate contract, but it's voluntary. There will be a GP OOH provider, probably a national commercial entity.
