I'm feeling it at the moment this is my boring story if anyone cares!
I'm currently fighting off AI torpedoing my role and it's no fun. This is a second career after the first sort of run out of gas. I trained in Photography starting right back in 99-00s doing my first courses then eventually uni. It was a pretty stable industry, you needed actual skill and even knowledge of chemistry. There was a risk to not messing up because the constraints of film. Digital was a distant whisper, poor quality and not accessible. I stupidly didn't read the signs. But by 2003 the tech developing at a fast pace. I had to try and keep up with it all like having to drop (£1000 for 1GB memory cards
) most simple starter jobs were cut. Local Newspapers would suddenly just give the reporter a camera (or later an iPhone). Everyone began having a decent camera phone in their pocket at all times and photos weren't really seen with the same value. Work was so thin on the ground. I did set up a business but hated the hussle. When I had my first kid I had to pack it in for something more predictable. I do a technical drawing/Carto role now and am having to constantly show people why they can't publish that junk AI has created for them. Thankfully it is nowhere near accurate enough in it's current form but I'm not stupid enough to believe it won't get there. Hopefully I can ride it out and find another niche
I just worry so much for the next generation. Now I have two secondary aged kids starting to try and figure out what to do with their lives, what paths to take and I have no idea what to tell them. One has an interested in coding and IT and the other Art and design but surely those are going to be horrifically impacted. What the hell is the plan long term I just can't see how taking so many jobs away will be sustainable.
Bleak times
