Yep, was going to post something similar.
Lots of crime statistics have gone up because we are reporting crime differently. I can report a crime online now and it would be added to statistics.

There's some good books on criminality in the UK and how violent society has always been. So how far are you going back as you can trace this all the way back to the 19th and maybe 18th centuries.

Yes its illegal to carry knives, but you cant ban them. ie, you cant just walk in to Asda Living and buy an AK47, but can buy a knife block with 5 deadly weapons inside as long as you can prove youre over 18.But they have haven’t they? Its illegal to carry a knife in public.
Stop and search would definitely help reduce the kids doing it but wont stop someone hellbent on killing innocent people.
Armed police everywhere is one answer but do we really need to go down that route?
