Guess some people have players they like and players they don't for whatever reason. I interpreted the point being made as Max once again had scored from the bench. His record last season was 11 goals in 26 appearances, most of which were from the bench. On that basis it's easy to see why people might point out that once again Max has scored off the bench. Javier Hernandez did simular numbers and role for Man Utd.
IMO Max would not be able to lead our attack but off the bench with 20 mins to go he is dangerous and stats seem to back it up.

Whilst true its nowhere near the full story... 7 of his 11 goals last season came in Cup matches... 3 of which against an U23 side... In league 1 he's been on the pitch in 22 matches be at as a sub or starter and he's scored 4... Bakayoko 23 times last season and also scored 4

Robins has to pick which one he wants to progress and make money from... And bakayoko is still at an age to improve

Biamou at Coventry in the league
27 starts 34 sub appearances 9 goals(league 2 and 1)

Bakayoko 29 starts 25 sub appearances 11 goals all in league 1

He won't even make the bench most weeks which is why he's been told he can leave - for his own benefit.

He's done well for us & scored some important, spectacular & ultimately memorable goals but it does feel like this is the end. We should thank him for what he's done & wish him well.

Not sure I buy into your devaluing of cup goals. I realise some were against u21 teams but others were against a team in the Championship. Goals are goals and U23 keepers don't let you walk the ball into the net. Based on this logic there are some amazing forwards in the international game who really should be far less proud of their goalscoring achievements.

Please watch his hat trick below from a critical eye perspective.

Goal 1 - i see a neat first time lay off and a player pulling off and finding space and finishing very well.

Goal 2 - Pen...well taken but would expect him to score.

Goal 3 - An outstanding finish with his weaker foot. It does not matter who the opposition is. Not many players could pull this off and it's not an isolated example.

To clarify where I am. I would not have max start or even be first choice off the bench, especially for where we aspire to be. But As a 4th choice forward we can chuck on with 15 to go when were chasing a game he has a purpose. Should we sign someone better I will drive him to where ever we need to offload him to but right now looking at the squad we would be worse off without him as an option.

May aswell add pre season matches ro their tally then too... A goal is a goal

You can't ignore the monumental amount of teams that field weaker teams in cups over the league, hence why nobody normally takes checkatrade goals overly serious

It was a poor way last season for fans to say godden wasn't as good as max

That is a weak response Evo. Competitive football is different. You make an intresting point however as there are a number of international players who have filled their boots many times over against teams like Cyprus in international friendlies and would be very unhappy if those were taken away from their scoring records.

You would rather the striker who scored 100 against top 50 nations over the striker who scored 100 against bottom 50 nations?

Would San Marino even beat massey ferguson?

I base my opinion honestly of a strikers record in every aspect as everybody should.. Ronaldo nozario, scored in the league, the Cup, the world Cup, qualifiers it goes on... He was a top striker

If ronaldo only ever scored for real Madrid but never scored much for Brazil, he wouldn't have the legendary status he has today... That's common sense

A strikers bread and butter is in the league

I see you have edited your response. I am in agreement with you. some goals are more valuable than others. However when assessing players, as many clubs going into the prem loan market do, your often scouting reserve team football before signing them. Scouts look at core abilities and skills that could translate well into the first team.

Please find me saying Goddenis inferior to Max. It's a bit tenuous to use someone's supposed perspective from last season about Max and Godden and turn it into a point in a debate with me!!!

Ok, would arsenal fans be happy if lacazzette (spelt wrong no doubt) scored 8 goals in the Emirates Cup... Then scores 5 in 38 league games? Arsenal fans would rather see them goals scored against teams in the premier league over a meaningless Cup where teams field weaker sides

Does it say something about a striker that doesn't produce in the league but can produce against weaker opposition in a cup?

I hear your rich, can I assume nepotism or a lottery win played a significant part in that? The reason I say that is your points are juvenile, lightweight and as intellectually stimulating as an episode of Peppa pig.

Why should Max go because we will need 4 strikers imcase we do play a 2 up top or one of the guys infront gets injured because 3 is not enough its strength in depth

The Emirates cup is a friendly. See my response above. I do not regard friendlies as worth counting. But broadly I am in agreement some goals are more valuable than others. But Max did score against championship opposition too and i would not dare suggest that should count double as that would be foolish.

I dont even dislike max, I feel I have a reasonable opinion of his ability... It's limited.
Coventry fans massively over exaggerate his ability, like they used to with Haynes, Kelly Evans, stokes etc etc... They become easily attached and it's probably a result of so many shit years we love a tryer who engages with fans... It's desperate and a loser mentality at the very least.

All the while people are arguing with me or Grendel about max, they forget the manager obviously has similar reservations.... This we cannot argue against

I wish him well though

Again.. I thank max for everything he's done at City, he's a lovely bloke who clearly loves Ccfc.
I personally hope he goes on and scores goals and enjoys his football, I just don't believe that's going to be here in the championship... And if he stays then I will back him the same as anybody else in a Ccfc shirt.. Opinions of his ability aside

Juggy was there, (don't know him), but he put on Twitter the club have got him in to pre season games as he put up some sponsorship last season and obviously didn't get all the games he paid for due to Covid.
Perhaps there were others in a similar situation. Think Overson has posted pictures from other games in the last week or two.

Oddly the Ponticelli question remains unanswered, the lack of league goals remains unanswered and the fact he’s a number 9 without a header goal remains unanswered

Are you dongles love child? No doubt Andy Thorn is the next Alex Ferguson, Bigi is worth £35 million, Chris Hussey is the next Gareth Bake and Ryan Haynes is worth £5 million

I think you are bending the facts slightly to fit your argument. Max scored goals in the FA Cup against Bristol Rovers and Ipswich. Neither were weakened teams and both were League One. Are all the League One goals we scored against these teams last season to be devalued? I think you are showing a lack of respect to the FA Cup by down playing the competition in such a way. If you were at any of our FA Cup ties last season you will know how desperate we as fans were for us to win those games. You also disregard the fact that he scored against a Championship team, who weren't leaving players out and who were also desperate to beat us.
Max may have reached the ceiling of his capabilities (shame it seems he won't be given the chance to show that that might not be true) but there is no need to play down or belittle what he has achieved.
