Sky stream v SkyQ

Anyone changed from skyq to sky stream?

I’ve had a chat with sky about reducing my monthly bill, and they have offered a reduction, but also offered to change me to sky stream to save me even more.

Any views on this?

I did look at this a couple of years ago, but our broadband speed is pathetic, but we now have full fibre available. One of the things I asked back then is can I watch something I am “recording” from the beginning. If I get home 15 minutes after the start of an event, on skyq I set it to record, then when home just “watch from start”. Sky said I can do this with stream via personalise feature, but is this true?

Any advantages/disadvantages to switching?

I've just binned off Sky as they wanted to whack the bill up massively and the usual threat to leave does nothing. Having cancelled they are now phoning me constantly with better offers, the more you say no the lower the offer goes. So if you do want to keep Sky that's one option.

I did read up on Stream and a lot of people seem to have huge problems to the point they end up returning the box and cancelling the contract.

I've already got an Apple TV box which I used way more than Sky so I'm going with just that and I'll subscribe to NowTV if at any point there's something on Sky I want to watch. Benefit of Now over Stream is you can sign up for a month rather than being in a contract.

I was going through the same process as you before ultimately binning it all off and getting a dodgy -stick. But if I'm choosing between those two - it's Sky Q, though I appreciate it's a little more expensive.

My understanding at the time was stream was pretty clunky in comparison and it depends on the viewing habits of your household. If you're more of a traditional TV viewer then I'd stick with Q.

If you go with Stream you'll be watching ads (vs Sky Q you just skip forward on a recording). If you're watching on Stream there will be a slight delay to live sports streams (Every goal in the DR Congo game was spoilt for me when I heard my neighbours celebrating!)

Also take into account that Sky Stream is reliant on your internet. I took this for granted - my City Fibre connection was down for 10 days over two periods very recently and I had no way of watching TV as it's reliant on internet connection. Had to watch an England game using mobile data!

I switched from Sky Q to Sky Stream a couple of years ago and it's been fine.
The user interface is different and takes a bit of getting used to.
Our Broadband speed (BT) is around 350Mbps and I've never had any issues with buffering. It isn't at all clunky and there's minimal delay. I watch the cricket on the TV with the sound muted and listen to TMS and there's no noticeable delay.
I have Ad skip so don't watch any adverts. Another positive is getting rid of the dish and all the cabling

I've had Sky Stream for a couple of years... and It's awful. The puck continually crashes and needs restarting, and the delays in streams are annoying... However, they now have "Real Time" channels whch eliminate a lot of the delay.... unsure why they don't just have these as the normal channels... For instance BBC 1 on 101 is delayed compared to BB1 Real Time (931 on the channel numbers i think) by about 15 seconds. If you're unaware of the real time channels, then you're at risk of getting spoilers from apps/group chats for live events. It just all feels really unintuitive, and the service you get is expensive.... I can hand my notice in in a few days, and will be switching back to Virgin Media

I just use now tv just for sky sports.
Got 3 accounts and I switch them yearly when the offers roll in. Currently paying £14.99 a month.

From what I've read about Now if you sign up to something for a month and then don't renew you're going to get offers with pretty decent discounts

Yes, we've had Q for a few years and stuck with it, mainly because the network can drop out occasionally but the satellite signal is solid, even when snowing, plus the missus would struggle with using Aps. Recording her soaps etc. is really easy, it's virtually instant when you need it, and you can skip through the ads (appreciate that's an extra charge with stream?)

We've got multiroom with our Sky subs and the puck keeps needing to re-connect to the main box, though this might be the internet hub. I've noticed it's also a bit behind the main satellite stream when using SkyGo on a console or laptop.

Had Virgin for a few years previous before Sky offered a great deal to switch. I personally wouldn't go back only because its all streaming now, they don't supply the V360 box or whatever it's called these days. Appreciate this is ultimately going to happen, not just for satellite but also freeview at some point, so will have to bite the bullet one day.

Ive just re-signed up for Virgin as the deal was too good. £20 less than i currently pay sky, and we get movie on top of our currenr package, faster internet, and an o2 sim with unlimited data. Will save me about £30 a month in total

I’ve got stream. Started off poor but they changed my router and top speed. It’s dirt cheap. You don’t record anything just a link into I player etc. but I wouldn’t turn back so long as the price stays.

Yes. You go in and have that option of watching live or from the start. There is the added option of if you forget to record and remember some time after it’s finished go into the next in the series click add series and you get access to all past episodes. Really takes getting used to

Eventually everyone will be streaming I guess as when the dishes fail they offer streaming - I have an old aerial in the loft and our LG tellies have an analogue option so the Beeb etc can be got on the aerial when there’s no internet
