how come we all believe that we paid the godden £750k up front ?

Not sure any deal for a league one club has ever happened like that before

I am not sure the point of quoting Maddison and Wilson and saying we should ask for millions. These two are very much exceptions to League 1 players

We are selling a League 1 player who has some potential not an England international and Premier League regular

If it means robins gets the money we should deal at a certain price we have mason to play left back more than good enough could even get a young striker on loan from the club this could finance a promotion push

I’m not moaning at the club having to sell players, i’m just worried it will be the inevitable sell and not replace. He needs some of the money to reinvest, even if it’s a fraction just to push us over the line.
Every club at our level has to sell players to survive, but our situation is different. We have cut the wage bill and i assume other costs too.
We have one problem other teams don't have and that is playing at a ground that we don't want to be in out of our City.
If supporters don't turn up then we have to sell more urgently than if they did.
If supporters don't turn up we sell our best prospect for 1.5-2 million as we need all that money just to keep us going, if supporters turn up then if we sell the same player add 500k + to that figure.
Also if supporters don't turn up running costs swallow all that up, if supporters do turn up maybe we have half to spend on new player(s).

It's easy really, the club we all love and support (i assume you all do, or why are you on here), need funds to survive. Go and watch them if you can can they have more funds to survive and maybe get promotion, don't go and they need to sell to balance the books. No blame aimed at anyone, you're not stupid and you all know this, but if you don't go then don't complain when we sell a player(s) below value.

Agree he is not.

Just wish some fans were realistic. We are a League One club playing tenants in a city 20 miles away. We have to balance the books somehow.

However any less than £2m then it's disappointing. I would keep until the summer. We go up then his value doubles. We stay down then sell for £2m.

Go on then, who would you buy as a League One club whilst adhering to FFP rulings and our general regime of living within our means?

There is no such thing as FFP in league one.

there is SCMP which is similar; but money input by owners is 100% exempt as long as there is no contractual agreement for repayment of that money.

And who would I buy? No idea, I’m not the manager. I’d rather he didn’t go, we aren’t conceding and don’t lose many games at all, but then we don’t score too many either so you’d have to look at Mason coming in and someone somehow to provide more goals, which might not necessarily be a striker but could be a provider. Not easy to find or come by.

So you think the owners should give the club money ok given what’s been said about breaking even etc

wise words. Used to have blazing rows about this when people would grumble at players going when they didn’t bother showing up to matches. One thing leads to another.

That’s for SISU to decide, not me, just pointing out that all the FFP stuff is not for real, if you put money in with no agreement to repay then that doesn’t count towards the salary cap protocol.

I know they won’t, obviously, but it’s because they don’t want to, not because they’re bound by rules.
Just frustrating that after all this they couldn’t pump in just a couple of million more for someone who’d score the goals to take us up, but it’s their money, not mine, I’m a fan, they’re a business.

here you go
SCMP (League 1 & 2)

key part:
“However the Football League use a is broader definition of Turnover. Crucially, the FL Turnover figure includes donations from the owners to the club and injections of equity. Loans from club owners are understandably not included in the Turnover figure as these would result in growing club debts. In League 1 and League 2, a wealthy owner can therefore fund the club spending in a way that is not permitted in other divisions. Manchester City and Leicester for example seem set for punishment for their excessive losses (from UEFA and the Championship respectively) despite the fact that the owners have injected hard cash into the club to finance the spending.”

So SISU could buy whoever they want.

The owners do put money in each season (but not a gift) just to pay the clubs short fall in finances (they have yet to draw back that money from the clubs budget though).

If SISU ever decided to call the debt in we would be screwed, this is what scares me.
If the legal stuff goes against them, will they just decide to sell everything to get back what they can and at best just leave us with under 18 players (Bolton).
This is what "could" happen.

'John Aloisi was a good example, we got him for nothing and Portsmouth went mad that we’d totally ripped them off- we had, but they had no choice but to sell.'
I'd say ripping Pompey off for John Aloisi was divine retribution for the way they took Mark Hateley off us for a ridiculously cheap price then sold him on for a huge profit to an Italian club.

They are never going to call in the debt, that would be like the bailiffs showing up at your gaff looking for a couple of million, you’d just laugh at them. They would never get the money back. I’m not sure what they have to sell, but it’s not going to cover the (I think) £75m they’ve put in. They’re stuck with us unless they decide to write off the whole thing.

Apologies if you’re a milllionaire :)

Yep, another good example. We had to sell, they got him for nothing. Don’t underestimate the power of the player to force a move as well which makes your hand even weaker.

Haha!!! i wish i was.
I said "this is what could happen" and they could. The players are doing well now so a good 5 mill if not more in transfer fees could be theirs.
They will never get back what they put in unless we get back to the Premier League (not Premiership (Premiership is Rugby, URRGGGHHHHH!!!!!!! i feel dirty now as it's the insects league)).

The only prob is what i said earlier, they are still paying the short fall each season, so if they lose the legal action and we don't look like going up and they have to increase their contributions they "could" call quits on it (i don't think they will).

I’ve got to say, I think there are a lot of people on this forum underestimating just how good McCallum is already. I don’t know about what price he would or should go for, and I was disappointed when Mason was originally dropped for him, but he’s proved me wrong and been fantastic. I think we would miss him more than most realise.

Mason is a more than adequate replacement, but is young Newton an adequate back-up to Mason?

Surely the club must be looking at doing something here if we get good money we can get someone in who can score goals weekly that’s all I’m seeing missing from automatic promotion ?

Not sure that’s going to happen. He’s already been given money for Chaplin, Hiwula, Bakayoko and Godden in the last 2 years

From what I’ve seen of McCallum he’s a real talent but I also think there’s some room for improvement. MR may think the same and try to convince ownership that patience may payoff with a more significant fee down the road.

Obviously it’s a tough one because we also need to offset the losses of playing in Birmingham.

Good point, but my only criticism of Robins (only lately) is the reluctance to play 2 strikers up front, as we have dominated games when we have done!

So my point is, I don't think we need to buy another striker as a priority, as we have a couple in Baka , Biamou and hiwula, utilise them!

I think Baka is on his way can see Hiwula going as well this window

What’s your thoughts on current squad/strikers etc ? Do you think we need someone ?

No not really, I don’t think our system is really set up for a striker to score loads.

Which proven strikers do you have in mind as Godden is proven at L1 level?
