Why cross the channel via criminal activity if you have a legitimate claim to asylum ? Just come normally?

They're in France clint mate , a developed democratic peaceful country..

Go about it the correct way , as stated by Brighton , and don't risk your kids lives on a dingy in the middle of the channel.

Anyway , Britain is shit , why come here .. stay in the EU where they will prosper even more

They have many reasons for coming here. From speak the language to they already have family and/or friends here to unite with.

As stated , there are many reasons for this.. why are people so keen to just keep loading these islands with people ... it's frankly weird and definitely not an election winner ...so you know

Well if we revert to COVs argument , he stated that we are taking in less every year ?

Either way , the argument about mainland Europe taking in more migrants is quite obvious isn't it .. a huge body of land joined together with open borders ..

It's far easier to travel to and settle in mainland Europe, added ro the fact much of it Is alot closer to the middle east .

So is your argument we shouldn't take any and the EU should or are you asking for a solution?

Because if its the latter the only way is to stop people fleeing in the first place.

I don’t think anyone is saying that this should be policy to be encouraging people to risk their lives, more that if you’re gonna stop it you need to understand the bigger picture as to why it’s happening, that then takes you to working out what they’re fleeing and why.. and the answers to that are uncomfortable for us.

Funnily enough, the party responsible for the current situation have been in office for 11 years and have an 80 seat majority so either it is a vote winner or the electorate didn't know what they were voting for.

I’d imagine there’s a correlation between Brexit and the increase with France being less co-operative and not under obligation?

Clint , it's a tedious old argument.

Take some fair enough , take more or you're a nasty bastard ... it's never enough for people like you , Tony unless we just continuously let people in , doest matter how many ... because feelings

What’s normally? Our government doesn’t offer them a legitimate route to claim asylum here except for the odd exception like the recent withdrawal from Afghanistan. The only way they can claim asylum is to be here, there really is only one option to the people arriving by boat and that’s arrive by boat so they can claim asylum.

Send the navy over .. sail them across.. you can meet them with crisps and blankets .
Problem solved

No need for parents to put their kids lives at risk , no need to spend several thousand pound on a dingy trip.

Let's take them all and save the heartache

We went into Afghanistan originally after 9/11, quite bizarrely.
We should never have got involved in Syria (we being the west not specifically the uk). Of course its to do with western and Russian proxies but still, Western foreign policy has been a disaster.

So we've established that Syria was already In civil war , there is no evidence to suggest that the civil war wouldn't have resulted in hundreds of thousands of refugees , it would likely have been the case , as with all conflict .

Damned if you do or don't really .

And saddam was convicted of genocide

We shouldn't have installed him in the first place.
And no, we shouldn't have interfered, as bad as he was. There's plenty of worse dictators we've left alone.
I haven't always thought this but that's because I listened to Christopher Hitchens thoughts onthe matter but I now think he was wrong.

If you go into politics you're expected to make difficult decisions, comes with the territory.

And people displaced by conflict will be a drop in the ocean compared to people displaced by climate change in the next few decades. Things aren't going to get better.

Let’s not forget that despite what the media like to push, Britain is definitely not a soft touch.

What we should always remember, is that desperate people should always be allowed the chance to say why they should be allowed to stay in this country. That's never the issue. The argument should always be where we set the bar for accepting they should stay, and what we do with the ones that we decide shouldn't. The right to ask for help should never be questioned.

The idea that any country’s asylum policy should be tied to whether or not it’s an “election winner” shows how fucked this debate has become.

Now that's hilarious .Next you'll be saying that France is an underdeveloped European nation that fails to reach the required standard of living for these poor souls.
