I've done the "I am going to do it at home" but it just doesn't happen. Like you say 5 aside sets you up for the week mentally and physically.

Since this lockdown I have been constantly tired, aching, going to bed at 7PM.

There's a massive knock-on effect, having no football or the gym etc there's no release or motivation which then impacts everything else.

I got into the habit of training at home during the initial lock down and using my hour a day but it just hasn't happened this time. To make matters worse in the 3 weeks leading up until this lockdown I didn't use the gym because I was busy with other stuff.

Bought a short book called ‘The boy, the mole, the fox and the horse’, just about a boy who’s lost and meets the animals one by one as he tries to get home. The conversations in it are quite endearing along with the illustrations. Doesn’t make the day to day stress any lower but it’s very uplifting for about half an hour’s reading. Ideal for children as well as adults

There's also the factor of having nothing to really look forward to.

On the home workout thing...for me, it’s about doing it first thing. I fucking hate it and I’m a right lazy bastard in the morning but I just absolutely force myself to get up and run. Last couple of weeks been doing it 4 or 5 times a week. The reason I do that is because, to your point, of the knock on effect but mostly throughout the day.

Not only does it wake you up better than any cup of coffee, but also the rest of the day I make better choices. Why am I going to eat a load of shit and just completely offset the positive benefit of the run that morning (calories and all the other benefits). May as well have stayed in bed.

Think I remember you saying ages ago that you can’t stand running but genuinely just get a podcast on or some good tunes and give yourself a weekly target or a target my Christmas or something. It’s the worst the first few times but then it’s actually a pretty good release.

Yeah I'd echo this, but I can't run first thing haha. I have ran for years but whenever I try first thing I am always out of breath quicker or slower, but I guess everyone has their own time of day to do it. Working from home has been a blessing for me, running on my lunch is perfect. Gets me away from my desk, gets my run in, and I get my evenings still. I mentioned previously that although I only lost me sense of taste and smell, my breathing was massively effected by an early bout of suspected COVID, and this last two weeks that appears to have alleviated somewhat which is great news.

The podcast thing I can't recommend enough. You'll often find yourself getting 'lost' in the talk of the podcast and be a mile further down the road before you realize you're dying. Football related ones I would recommend: Guardian Football Weekly, Football Ramble, then of course the City related ones like Sky Blues Extra & Nii Lamptey.

If you're like me, wanting to listen to the pods will be enough of a reason to go running. Running can be dreadful, but it can also be the most addictive and rewarding thing. Say to yourself if 'I can run {realistic goal} in 2 weeks' etc. and you will just find yourself setting more and more goals. The key is making them realistic, and before you realise you will be beating stuff you didnt think was realistic.

Fucking hell. I should have been going to Asia in a couple of months, now I can't even go for a night out on Warwick I had planned.
Still, the end is in sight, keep focusing on that.

The same here bud. The Black Country is also tier 3. Strangely Liverpool and London who were super spreaders before the lockdown are both Tier 2.

Basically nocturnal at this point.

After losing the job I have just been working on the book non-stop. It is the only thing that has kept my sanity. Dare I say, 80,000 words down now and it is starting to take some real shape. Hopefully will be done in a couple of weeks.

Anyone looking for a shitty Christmas present?

Sorry to hear that , hadn't picked up that the job was gone although I know you forecast it .
Good that you have something to throw yourself into .
But I'd definitely try to get your body clock back in sync, always found that vicious circle harmful to my mood, sanity and cognitive function Lol.

I've got into working out more than ever the last few weeks. Haven't got a sofa or anything in the living room in my new place yet and it's basically become a Gym. All the stuff you'd need (bench etc) plus a spinning bike. I've actually managed to put just over half a stone on.
It is great for your mental health as well, I'd be going more mental than I already am without it.

Feeling much better than I have been the last few months, gyms reopening, vaccines seemingly on the way, finally gone back to work after being on furlough for 8 months......there is light at the end of the tunnel

I'm not sure what is going on with grassroots yet, waiting for an FA update. Might get guidance through that. I know a group of blokes that do a kickabout up at hawkesmill on a Monday have been told that is off until the new year. Think Lloyd has made that decision though, probably cos they can't use the clubhouse

I've been putting off texting the lad who organises it because I'm worried he will say it's not on! It's something I've really missed during both lock downs.

The chap who runs that Hawkesmill thing said he'll book a pitch elsewhere so obviously thinks it'll be ok. I think you'll be ok privately renting a pitch. I'm not sure about grassroots starting cos of us being in tier 3, which is shit cos the lad is itching to get outside playing again

Man, I wish I wasn’t unfit and shit at all sports, would love a five a side game or tennis or something. Same as gyms, you feel some stuff would be great but can’t bear the social anxiety of turning up and being humiliated by people who have been doing it forever. Need to find a solo sport that isn’t just running or cycling.

Or get over my crippling social anxiety...

it doesn't matter if you're shit mate.
I'd also say that most people in gyms don't really give a fuck what other people are up to to be honest. And now with reduced capacity and social distancing you're not as close to other people anyway.

Edit - if that doesn't appeal get some decent podcast and go for q brisk walk while you're listening.
Great stress buster and good for you without being too strenuous.

It matters to me that’s the problem. I’ll be telling myself everyone’s thinking I’m fat/shit and that’s what stops me attending. It’s annoying because give me a football and I’ll run about chasing it all day, tell me to go running and I get sick of it pretty quick.

I think you might surprise yourself if you went.
And if you did you'll have overcome by far the biggest hurdle when you walk through the door so everything else should be a doddle!

But if it's not for you loads of homework out stuff on you tube. Me and the missus did a couple during last lockdown it was actually quite a good laugh

I have real motivation issues with normal workouts. I don’t push myself like I do when I’m trying to achieve a goal. I’ll add that to the YouTube list though for next time I give it a go.

To be fair I wouldn't judge you on your weight or you skillz, would 2 foot the shit out of you though

Most "normal" people our age are in the same boat and just do it to keep fit and have a bit of fun!
