"The huge negative for me was the crowd. Maybe I was sat in a bad area but there was no attempt to be quiet for kicks. Many of those around me were drunk having been in the casino. The huge negative for me was the crowd. Maybe I was sat in a bad area but there was no attempt to be quiet for kicks. Many of those around me were drunk having been in the casino. There were quite a lot of old-Wasps boys that I spoke to watching the Eng v Ire game and they were really nice but it seemed that there were lots of new rugby fans with no understanding of the game and lots of people around me were just there to drink and talk.
Sad really as even as AP with small crowds there was a better atmosphere.
Perhaps Wasps need to educate the crowd not to talk during kicking. Not sure they can do much else. Clearly getting drunk in the Casino before the game and swearing in front of children isnt the clubs fault. "
And
"Slimey - thanks for the thoughts and comments - not sure where you were in the ground but I thought the same re: the crowd today but can also confirm that it isn't the norm at normal games - I think some came because it was the only local rugby of note this weekend after the England game ( saw quite a few saints fans at the game) and thankfully rugby crowds are very quick to educate those who think it's funny to encourage children to jeer during kicks - people will always drink but a lot arrived at 1 o clock and started drinking whereas usually people won't have that amount of time pre games so tend to be merry not p@@@ed and behave as such - "
And
"Like others have mentioned, we had three brain dead morons sat behind us who did nothing but talk and prattle on all through the match. One STH pointed out the error of their ways in the end. A real pain in the ....! "
And
"I had rather more of a problem with the behaviour of those (young and old) around me. While I support and applaud the club's commitment to the younger supporter, I would prefer to watch rugby amongst people who are able to sit and enjoy (or endure) 40+ minutes of rugby without bobbing up and down every two minutes and who "get" and respect the traditions and conventions. "
And
"Morning after thoughts - like others the "football" like behaviour irritated me most yesterday - mostly led by adults in our section to be fair - I appreciate that the club wants and needs more supporters of all ages to grow the club and some of those will be new to the game so might suggest that perhaps an e-mail to all those buying tickets ( incl. season tickets) or a leaflet for those buying in person outlining our proud wasps traditions and values of asking for silence during kicks, polite applause for opposition scores etc. might help as I am assuming it is mostly done through ignorance of values not malice. "
And there's even more where they came from..... "Good atmosphere?" Ha ha ha
Well if they aren't happy they can piss off back down to London.
