The huge negative for me was the crowd. Maybe I was sat in a bad area but there was no attempt to be quiet for kicks. Many of those around me were drunk having been in the casino. There were quite a lot of old-Wasps boys that I spoke to watching the Eng v Ire game and they were really nice but it seemed that there were lots of new rugby fans with no understanding of the game and lots of people around me were just there to drink and talk.

Sad really as even as AP with small crowds there was a better atmosphere.

Perhaps Wasps need to educate the crowd not to talk during kicking. Not sure they can do much else. Clearly getting drunk in the Casino before the game and swearing in front of children isnt the clubs fault. "

And

"Slimey - thanks for the thoughts and comments - not sure where you were in the ground but I thought the same re: the crowd today but can also confirm that it isn't the norm at normal games - I think some came because it was the only local rugby of note this weekend after the England game ( saw quite a few saints fans at the game) and thankfully rugby crowds are very quick to educate those who think it's funny to encourage children to jeer during kicks - people will always drink but a lot arrived at 1 o clock and started drinking whereas usually people won't have that amount of time pre games so tend to be merry not p@@@ed and behave as such - "

And

"Like others have mentioned, we had three brain dead morons sat behind us who did nothing but talk and prattle on all through the match. One STH pointed out the error of their ways in the end. A real pain in the ....! "

And

"I had rather more of a problem with the behaviour of those (young and old) around me. While I support and applaud the club's commitment to the younger supporter, I would prefer to watch rugby amongst people who are able to sit and enjoy (or endure) 40+ minutes of rugby without bobbing up and down every two minutes and who "get" and respect the traditions and conventions. "

And

"Morning after thoughts - like others the "football" like behaviour irritated me most yesterday - mostly led by adults in our section to be fair - I appreciate that the club wants and needs more supporters of all ages to grow the club and some of those will be new to the game so might suggest that perhaps an e-mail to all those buying tickets ( incl. season tickets) or a leaflet for those buying in person outlining our proud wasps traditions and values of asking for silence during kicks, polite applause for opposition scores etc. might help as I am assuming it is mostly done through ignorance of values not malice. "

And there's even more where they came from..... "Good atmosphere?" Ha ha ha

Well if they aren't happy they can piss off back down to London.

Proud tradition? Of what? Having no tradition and just whoring themselves to the next venue they can exploit?

Ha ha. They think Coventry people are scum. Probably talking about Italia.

Comedy gold that.

80%+ of the posts in the thread complain about the crowd. I found this the most interesting, I don't care how easy it is to get to and from the train station. It's just interesting that their hardcore aren't that happy with the behaviour of the new wasps target audience - it's too football fanesque for them. Boo hoo. And I thought it was such a great atmosphere, on which it seems you must sit in silence.

Just for balance, they did like the purity beer.

Fuck me Stupot you need to get out more. Stalking Rugby forum's to start a thread on our very own Wasps sub forum. It's a bit sad mate.

PS we're second in the league and playing good football. PUSB.

You know what they say, keep your friends close and your enemies closer

I'm pretty good at multi tasking, I can both enjoy the good football and despise wasps at the same time.

Really? The majority were very negative and believe scum like you need an e mail telling you how to behave properly in future.

Why go and support something that's clearly a class above you?

Fortunately not Stu.....
however CRFC took the unilateral step of closing one outside bar behind the sticks, to be turned into a dog's lounge for corporate sponsors to watch the game.
This didn't go down too well with myriad old timers who've stood their for as long as they've been there, needless to say with a bit of encouragement from me and my pals we all ignored the advice not to obstruct the view and reverted to the norm.

Well I know a few "football types" who've been and they say even when there had been 20,000 at a game the atmosphere is dire and worse than even 7 - 8,000 watching Coventry.

Apparently it's like an exhibition game or a charity shield. No passion.

Just boring.

If they want silence they should have come to watch the city last season. Not really sure why they brand people as football types, they should realise that for some a day at the wasps is just an excuse to go on the piss all day, not that there's anything wrong with that. Surely most rugby fans in Coventry will always take the butts over the Ricoh and watch Coventry's own historic rugby club, I know I would.

Most wouldn't. They'd make an excuse - like they are from Bedworth.

That's the funny thing. If some of the threads started on here since Sunday were articles along the same line in the CT some of the same posters who started said threads would be starting/contributing to repetitive threads about how the Council Evening Telegraph is deliberately trying to unsettle/bring down the club and fan base during a time when results mean we should be positive. Although the CT have clearly turned to the dark side of late.

Either that or they just report the news.

The plot thickens....

http://m.rugbynetwork.net/main/wasps/s96/st190338

"A lot of the new supporters are new to supporting rugby, and it's a real joy to bring a love of the best game out there to so many more people, but if you're new to watching Rugby live there are a few things you should know.

1) It's a family event. Going to a match isn't a thing just adults do. You'll see whole families there with children from teenagers down to babes in arms. Because of that the language people use is important. Please try not to swear. We all do it sometimes, but it's only going to cause bad feeling if people are repeatedly using bad language in front of children. It's f***ing rude.

2) Rugby comes before the team. We're all passionate about our team, but first and foremost we're fans of the game. That tends to mean that there is little antagonism between supporters of different teams. There is no segregation, and fans of opposing teams mingle and sit together throughout the ground. You'll even see people applauding when the other team does something well. Try to respect the other team, even if it is Tigers.

3) Trying to put the kicker off is very much frowned upon. Lets be honest, it isn't going to make a blind bit of difference to them, they are a professional and are fully used to blanking out the noise from the crowd when they are concentrating, but if you're busy shouting and screaming you might not see when he slices it wildly into the stands, and you don't want that.

4) We all know the referee is half blind and completely biased towards the other team, but even so, in rugby there is a tradition of utmost respect towards him. Players refer to him as “Sir” and only the Captain is supposed to talk directly to him without being spoken to first. If you want to shout ans scream about how ridiculous the ref is, then that is what this forum is for.

5) We all drink. Well not all of us, but having a few pints is part of the experience. Just remember that you have to drink real ale and not lager, and it will either be too warm, or too cold. You get to pick.

6) Rugby is famous for it's lewd songs, but as a rule they're supposed to be sung by the players on the team bus. Try not to sing them in front of children or nuns.

The most important thing to remember is to have fun. Thanks for choosing to come along and support Wasps, the team has a long and proud heritage, and with any luck that will continue in our new home. "

Deleted point 7 as it's about racism and valid and should be integral to life in general but the rest ffs....

Nothing wrong with that

I agree with keeping swearing to a minimum. But the rest is a load bollocks. A guide to "how to watch rugby", how pretentious can you get.

It's f***ing rude. this should be no different to football, I take my 4 and 8 year old. This is just being a polite human being, but sometimes shit happens and people swear. Get over it

2) Rugby comes before the team. We're all passionate about our team, but first and foremost we're fans of the game. great, no atmosphere, no team spirit, no cheering on your team you have to cheat everyone on, no banter. You're not allowed to be partisan. I regularly go to the cricket and there's tons of banter, partisan singing, piss taking, etc

3) Trying to put the kicker off is very much frowned upon. Lets be honest, it isn't going to make a blind bit of difference to them, they are a professional and are fully used to blanking out the noise from the crowd when they are concentrating, but if you're busy shouting and screaming you might not see when he slices it wildly into the stands, and you don't want that.

oh come on. This isn't billiards. How pretentious can you get. Perhaps we should be silent everytime there is a penalty? Wouldn't want to put the opposition off. Pathetic

4) We all know the referee is half blind and completely biased towards the other team, but even so, in rugby there is a tradition of utmost respect towards him. Players refer to him as “Sir” and only the Captain is supposed to talk directly to him without being spoken to first. If you want to shout ans scream about how ridiculous the ref is, then that is what this forum is for.

so you're not allowed to complain about the ref or officials during the game. We must sit in silence, we must not get passionate.

5) We all drink. Well not all of us, but having a few pints is part of the experience. Just remember that you have to drink real ale and not lager, and it will either be too warm, or too cold. You get to pick.

so you are not allowed to drink what you want, you have to drink ale, because sober real quiet men drink bitter in silence whilst watching rugby and applauding poor refereeing. Lolz

6) Rugby is famous for it's lewd songs, but as a rule they're supposed to be sung by the players on the team bus. Try not to sing them in front of children or nuns.

so no "shit on the villa then". Do as I say not as I do. Where's the spontaneity?? None, because we sit in silence enjoying the oppositions rugby

sounds like a borefest, where no one in the crowd cares whether they win lose or draw as longs as they drink a pint of ale in silence

Quite funny where one says it was better at Adams Park.

Some of them don't seem to realise how fortunate have been to have had the underserved support they have received. They have to remember probably 70% of the crowd had never been to a rugby match before Wasps arrived and are probably more accustomed to football matches.

Just read that load of rubbish written by that arsehole the best game out there what a mug, it's a minority sport (not my words but the words of that Moore bloke on Talksport this morning).

having only ever been to one game a Coventry one years ago it strikes me as a fairly passionless game.

Most of this is tongue in cheek. 'You can't drink lager' :)
Don't get too paranoid about it.
It's not football but people can still enjoy the game even with these unwritten rules.
