I’m still not sure we can play three forwards and a 10 in a lot of games without getting overrun, although suppose it depends who plays those positions and in particular for the forwards how hard they work back. I do think a 433 suits what we’ve got better than the 5ATB though although I’ve said no problem with 5ATB away against best teams

I think the 4231 will drop into a 4411 defensively or 451

Its going to be a struggle watching us sit back every week if we lose

I’m with you mate, it’s why I don’t think playing 5 in defence works for most home games. Basically it takes away everything we’ve been good at in recent times and leaves too many decent players on the bench

Its all getting a bit desperate. He's acting like a fan really, "oh we played half decent with the 5, we'll stick with that now... oh well that was a disaster." I'd imagine we'll bin it now.
Especially at home he should just play last seasons formation but with the new players he's been given 10s of millions to buy.

I’d rather go out in a blaze of glory trying what we did last season with better players than become a Sheff Utd or even Derby style laughing stock allowing the opposition to take the piss with us sitting off them.

Frank chose to put an unproven 19 yr old in the bench in his place, but hey " he is super Frank". I think super Frank has fucked up massively. No I am not Simms dad or partner.

His stats mean GPM which you always quote but it’s not even a fact his are the best since his time here

I could see the logic against a possession heavy team like Brighton even if I didn’t agree with it, I just don’t think it’s the right way to go at home. We’ve got players that can cause opposition problems so let’s try and find a way of getting them in the team

Simms now doesnt even make the bench despite a lack of experience strikers. Simms when ever he has been given a spell in the team has started to score goals, he clearly thrives on confidence like many strikers but Lampard doesn't exactly instil it with his constant dropping of him and yet Simms had the best goals per minutes played last season. If I was Simms Id be thoroughly pissed off and I dont blame him for seeing out his contract here for more money if the rumours are true

I find it staggering Yirenkyi and Tchaouna are not playing every game. Not just because of the money we spent on them but they are two of our players who actually have the physicality to be effective.

Our midfield is the biggest issue. Matt Grimes just isn't good enough at this level. Doesn't matter if it's a back 5 or 4, if we persist with him in the middle it won't matter what we do. Brighton played through our midfield with ease yesterday and constantly found a man free 25 yards out.

I don’t ignore anything. Wright is the better player and would always be first choice. We should have found buyers for both Simms and BTA early in the transfer window and then replaced them.

Im suprised Simms is still here to be honest, I thought it was over for him when he didn't get a single minute in either of the Sunderland play off games. Lampard has never rated him and has questioned his desire in a number of interviews since hes been here, Maybe Awonyi's suspension will force his hand, we will have to see.

If rumours are true and weve actively been trying to get him out, I find it bizarre that we didnt sign another striker, with Haji out its left us very short.

Cherif is a weird one, His stats weren't exactly inspiring, young kid new to the country with a hefty price tag. I know hes had limited game time but i just dont get it. I might be wrong but it just screams Basette 2.0.

Doesn't BTA have the same physicality? Doesn't mean he should play.

Of course you do but they both can, relative to our other options! BTA has a good engine but is a poorer player. Brighton had plenty of physicality. Yalcouye is tiny but gets around the pitch, he was always finding space.

You have to have legs in midfield to play that way
Rudoni and emc are ok attacking not defending and grimes and onyeka are not great out of possession you need legs unless someone is telling regan slater is the missing link

It is so frustrating out of all 3 promoted teams we should have had a head start and we didn’t

The problem is at home we should be finding a way to play with the ball and we haven’t found one even in the game we didn’t have the ability to pass to our players or the confidence to move with the ball at our feet

should be easy to work the ball wide I get through the middle being hard but down the sides come on piece of cake unless people can’t control a ball or pass or move or run with the ball.

So galling we had a good half against Man City and if you’re gonna play the same way use the same players so loum and Yirencki had to start the game. Absolutely soul destroying watching us capitulate and just not care last 30 then Man City play away at Man Utd for 70 mins with 10 men and win the game
