Renewable energy is cheaper to generate and more resistant to supply shocks than fossil fuels. The problems lie in part in coupling renewable energy prices to fossil fuels.

There should be a green energy dividend if anything, rather than a penalty.

I've lived in my Yorkshire cul de sac for over 10 years now.
My nextdoor neighbours are 2 young brothers from Hong Kong. One commutes to an IT job 30 miles away, the works on CAD, CAM. Lovely lads although they do annoyingly have 6 cars, they love Japanese cars. Their mum and dad are here at the moment, hilarious how they keep the lads busy round the house.
The other side used to be a Lithuanian guy, working night shifts in a greeting card factory. No one else would do the shifts. Lots of tips on snow driving.
Further up a bloke and his Thai wife, 2 kids. Loves his grass that fella. Sadly his wife had a double mastectomy, but she's been brave as a lion. Spends lots of time on her own because he works away for long periods.
Next door to them were a Sri Lankhan couple and their severely autistic daughter. He is a blood consultant in a local hospital, she's a dinner lady. Our closest friends, had dinner with them here and in their new place quite a few times. Dedicated their life to their daughter. They're shocked at the occasional racism they get, called P##@.
Their house is now owned by a Pakistani Uber driver. Daughter is a lawyer. Been around a couple of times because we found his wife went to the school my wife had her first teaching job. She's active on the school alumni Facebook.
Interesting different kind people, different life stories.
Apparently all can be summed up as 'mass immigrant, destroying Europe'.
Let's have a bit of decent humanity, eh?

I won’t derail an immigration thread further, but I’m hopeful with the recent schemes for plug in and rooftop solar that the government is recognising that it needs to give people direct financial benefits from green energy in order for them to buy in to the policy.

Speaking of which:

Police are investigating a deliberate fire at a housing association tenement in Glasgow that had previously been targeted by anti-immigration protesters.

The building in Stonyhurst Street, Possilpark - which has been derelict for 20 years - had received £3m to be renovated as affordable homes.

Glasgow MSP Paul Sweeney claimed there was evidence the blaze was started deliberately on Sunday following online "disinformation" that the flats would be used for asylum seekers.

Housing association NG Homes, which owns the block, said these were false rumours and the flats would provide "much-needed" homes for people on its waiting list.

One of the issues is that you are relying on the market either way. You need a fully government owned renewables company, where the upfront investment is just seen as spending on critical national infrastructure.

I'm basically wondering if I can buy a couple of prewired systems, compact like used for mobile home's,if they can produce enough a tech heavy load with out needing to top up from the grid.

It’s a bit of a red herring blaming the grid being upgraded to handle green energy. Truth is that most of the infrastructure in UK dates back to the 50’s when the last major investment and expansion was done after the war. It’s way way past it’s original design life for the most part and has had a severe lack of investment since privatisation in the 90’s in favour of dividends payments.

Just like the water companies we’ve already paid them once to maintain and invest in the infrastructure but they didn’t so now we’re have to pay them again. They’re happy to hide behind green energy as an excuse and the right wing both client press and politicians are happy to assist them in that deception.
