Immigration and Asylum

You don't know what Notting hill carnival has to do with immigration?
No. I don’t. Care to explain? It’s a British community partaking in a 400 year old British tradition just as they have been for 60 years. Why is it in a thread about immigration? Care to explain?

Are you ok? Care to explain?

You honestly have no clue? Care to explain?

weirdo.

Course. Absolutely nothing to do with it.

I'm trying to figure out if you're being serious?
I’m being deadly serious. You have a British community doing a 400 year old British tradition and it’s being posted on an immigration thread. If that’s not racism I don’t know what is.

Even the crime figures being presented in the way they are is racism because when you actually compare them to comparable events in the UK happening on the same weekend they aren’t even high in comparison.

The fact that you chose (and it is a choice) to play dumb puts you in the same camp as the racist who posted it on this thread in the first place.

You keep going on about 400 year traditions but you have no idea how Notting hill could be related to immigration?

It's not me playing dumb.

This is just mind numbing bollocks even by your standards Tony.

Your “research” I assume is this rather strange article.

Oddly the article shows the Notting Hill Carnival isn’t a British Tradition at all but a replication of the West Indies form of celebration. Well done Tony.

This original carnival you seem very proud to have “researched” is it seems through my own “research” - namely typing into Google when was the first carnival - seems to be effectively the start of the Bonfire Night celebrations - nothing to do with the type of event we see discussed here.

Doubtful. There was far too many people attending Reading and Leads in 2024 for it to be a far right event. I just checked over the whole event at both sites it was 240k.

Wait a moment? 240K at a combined event where over a 100 sexual assault were reported. Hold on, that means that sexual assaults at the predominantly white attended festival was far far higher both in numbers and proportionately than those reported at the predominantly black attended festival. It almost as if when you make actual equivalence rather than false equivalence old whitey doesn’t come off so good.

Can you show evidence of 100 assaults in a single year Tony?

So you’re just being out and out racist then. You seem to be suggesting that this has something to do with immigration as it’s a predominantly black neighbourhood. We’re into 2nd, 3rd, 4th and quite possibly 5th generation of a black British community born in the UK. If you’re not playing dumb you’re saying that this community isn’t British which is an overtly ignorant and racist thing to say.

Tony it’s described as a celebration for those migrating from the Caribbean and a celebration of its heritage.

St George’s day is a celebration for a Turkish man who apparently performed a miracle in Ethiopia. Are you seriously suggesting that isn’t English because it celebrates multiculturalism?

it says it’s a celebration of the their Caribbean roots Tony

you seem to think they should be ashamed and say they are now British

how interesting is that

Are you dizzy because that’s quite a spin.

We all celebrate our roots, Hogmanay is of Viking heritage.

Harvest festivals are from our Anglo Saxon heritage.

Even the dates we celebrate Christmas and Easter are linked to our Saxon heritage.

We all celebrate roots just some are too dumb to understand that. It doesn’t make any of us any less British, if anything it makes us more as our roots regardless of race is in multiculturalism.

Tony I do not celebrate Viking heritage, I have never celebrated a Harvest festival (I doubt such a festival would need millions to police and involve the carrying of knives though) and I doubt many people having Turkey and tinsel pay homage to their Anglo Saxon heritage

You also told a little lie on the Reading and Leeds festival.

You told a big lie that right wing people are more likely to be child abusers.

Frankly, you seem a bit off your head.

It was DTR who brought up the far right in his first post with the link comparing crime rates at one of the biggest gatherings in the country every year (2million I think are the official figures) vs 60’000 at far right gatherings as a false equivalence.

The truth is wherever there’s a large gathering of people you’re going to get crime. I collected my 17 year old and two friends from Reading this morning and one of the headlines from previous Reading and Leeds festivals that made me uneasy in letting her go was from 2 years ago when there was over a hundred reported sexual assaults reported. And having been at the collection point in Reading this morning I can tell you with a great degree of certainty is that at Reading at least it is very much a gathering of white youths and young adults. In fact now I think about it I don’t recall seeing one single person other than a coach driver who was anything other than white.

I’m sure no black oeopke go and look at acts live Dave who has headlined it and the other rap artists and hip hop acts who perform every year there Tony

I told no lie about Leeds and Reading and I told no lie about right wingers having more than average rates of child and sex abusers and far far far higher rates of domestic violence than everyone else. Just because you choose to disbelieve something doesn’t make it a lie.

And just because you choose not to celebrate something it doesn’t mean no one else does either.

Not all black people in the UK attended the Notting Hill Carnival either.

Harvest Festival was celebrated in Whitley Community Centre near to the Primary School in the 1960's.
I think mainly it involved prize marrows food donations (I guess to the local church for distribution to the needy) but I was more interesed in exploring under the stage at the ages I would have attended so I can't attest to that. 😁
I guess it ended when that building was demolished sometime in the 1970's.

can you show the evidence Tony? I do see the sexual offences are 100 across reading and Leeds but since 2018 and a cumulative figure

I have asked 4 times now for the data that proves right wing people are more likely to be sex offenders against children.

Why are you not sharing the data Tony so it can be analysed?

Yeah it's clearly racist to see why Notting hill carnival could be linked to immigration. Point to where I've said that the community and no-one is British?

The fact you only seem to come on here to shout far right with no interest in actual football kind of makes you look a bit racist. Ironic for the ukip voter.

Interesting that per capita now becomes an argument though....

Notting Hill used to be a celebration of culture, different flavours, lots of bright colours and a parade with music and dancing. Taking aside the criminality, all of the footage looks horrendous (not to mention the disgusting mess left behind, although that pissed me off at our promotion party in the memorial park - why are people such scumbags?). This was like a surging crowd and then you've got the more concerning aspect with these parades now of the sexual nature promoted, especially at supposed family event. I'm not sure what all of this gyrating on each other, albeit clothed, has to do with anything. Pride too that was a celebration of being inclusive and all about vibrant colours, also seems to have been taken over by weirdos who think it's ok to parade through the streets in a dog mask and underpants.

Not really making any point here on either side of the argument, just it seems to be miles away from the celebration event that it was formed to be and how the popularity grew.

As LG says the crime in the 90s was much worse, but it appeared a more chilled atmosphere (a bit of weed perhaps helped that) and I think would've been a great spectacle. I wouldn't go near the place now if I was paid to.
