If you ever bother to go there you will find that it is called both Derry and Londonderry. The locals seem to manage quite well with this.

I have been there which is how I know.

I have some family there and been many times and I'm yet to hear anyone call it Londonderry. Protestant or catholic. The only place it's called Londonderry as far as I can tell is on maps.

Well, here we are on the eve of the General Election and I haven't got a clue who to vote for or even whether to vote at all.
Whilst historically leaning to the right, I'm not at all taken with the arrogance that seems to have enveloped the Conservative party. Last time round I had a visit from the defending Conservative MP who must have been sweating on the outcome. As it turned out, he got elected by a 7% majority (including my vote), but we haven't seen anything of him this time. Maybe he is quietly confident - although I don't know why - and resources have been diverted elsewhere? Just a tacky A4 leaflet shoved through the door, similar in style to the Liberal Democrats and Greens.
As for Labour, their canvassing has been very organised and at least they have tried to engage on the doorstep. I have warmed to the theme of 'for the many, not the few' but am very dubious of the leadership qualities at national level of Corbyn, McDonnell, Abbott and Thornberry and how it would all be paid for. They're on a par with the champagne socialism practicised by the obnoxious Blair, whilst sharing the ability to bankrupt the country in the process.
So is it a vote for the have it alls, the want it alls or the never will haves? Not an inspiring choice at all.

There are more reasons not to vote Tory.

Spoke to a Scottish friend today about the talk that the Tories might take some seats in Scotland, his reply was "It isn't just talk, their basing their campaign around being the unionists and its working". The idea of the Tories taking Scotland is unheard of :/.
The fact their manifesto is full of uncosted gibberish that boils down to "BREXIT!" and "Don't worry your head, just trust us, we know best" that can only be described as beyond arrogant and yet their ahead in the polls? It just beggars belief.

Corbyn might not be the best leader, but he's a charismatic guy, he condemns violence on all sides (including Trident) and is much more 'strong and stable' than TM appears to be. All politicians have a past, but I'd rather trust the guys in red than blue. Remember maggie sold everything off, it was the Tories that got us into this mess in the first place by privatising everything and deregulation (which continued up to Blair).

I read a similar blog yesterday relating to Brexit, with source material from both left and right leaning economists. It was pretty worrying to be honest, and suggested that neither of the main parties has a grip on it.

If anyone didn't have a clue about him and read this thread they would think he is the best Labour leader for generations. He doesn't have any faults because others have done similar things. That makes him the perfect leader. I have asked a few times about the other Labour strong MP"s that would join him in a government. Totally got ignored.

I look forward to coming back to this thread on Friday when it goes into meltdown if Labour don't win. Just like the Brexit one. I didn't vote for Brexit just like I won't be voting Conservative. But some people just don't want to look further than their nose when it is a lifelong belief or something that is a benefit for themself.

Whilst it is very insightful and there is a a lot of good debate here, it's a bit full on in this thread if you aren't voting labour.
