Just cannot see Liverpool getting the title and then the rest of the leagues just tossed aside.

Maybe I'm wrong, but voiding the season just seems a ridiculous notion and we don't have to do what the Dutch have done, or any other league have done either for that matter.

What about the rest of Europe?

Obviously I hope you are right. But the world has gone to shit so might as well pop this on top while we are at it.

I am sure we will be confirmed as champions if the season cannot be finished.

Not argument to be had really is there.

In the Dutch league the top two are separated by goal difference only.

The league below the team is 11 points ahead and they have been told they are not champions in Holland

I posted a few weeks ago that I feared Liverpool would be awarded the title to stop them whingeing. Everyone else would get nothing. They could give them the title to shut them up as it doesn't involve any promotion issues but it seems that Liverpool are always some sort of special case. I hope I'm wrong.

Bundesliga reckon they are back May 9th. Just from a PR point of view that puts pressure on the league. They like to constantly declare its the greatest league in the world so won't want to see the Germans finish the season and not do the same.

If and when the PL declare they are definitely restarting the season I would expect that to filter down. The question then becomes how far does it filter down. That will in part come down to things like TV money. There's already indictions that companies will expect money returned if seasons finished early or declared void so it will be a matter of how far down the league you go before the amount potentially needing to be handed back doesn't become the overriding issue.

Indeed but we know how shit the EFL are at having to make a decision on anything of significance. Do everything they can to put it off. Just can't see them doing anything but 'wait and see' until the Prem decide what they're doing.

Not seen it on here but the Sunderland Echo are reporting that the EFL have said that fans won't be allowed into stadiums before 1st October. Make whatever jokes you want about fans and S'land but this is disturbing.

Exclusive: The date when Sunderland fans will be able to return to Stadium of Light

Wouldn't that be a decision for the government to make rather than the EFL?

Can't see why they can't do points per game, this is something out of the ordinary and play 4/5 of the season but to void it is absurd, the following season can then start whenever it is ready to do so.

I’m slowly coming to accept we won’t see anymore football but I’m certain that we’ll be promoted.

Guys I keep repeating myself. We will be promoted. I beleive the season will end as is with a PPG to settle final table which does not really change amything. No relegations.
The new season will start when restrictions are sufficiently lifted, most likely September/October.

I’ve said before thank heavens for Liverpool and Leeds no way will the FA scupper either of them. My money is still on points per game average with a decision on whether they relegate or not, whatever they come up with there will be someone unlucky and moaning, it is interesting though if they go ppg Wycombe go from eighth to third and promotion.

They’d be in the play-offs, not promoted?
Edit: ahhh got you, this is a problem in general because other teams will feel unhappy and it opens up legal issues.

I agree with this.

I have always had this niggling feeling that Liverpool will get the title to shut them up while the rest of us paupers get voided.

The EFL and Premier League are spineless as we know and I can see them being sheep to the Dutch league. Maybe in a strange way Hoffman can have some influence. That's all really weird too.

An ex-collegue of mine from our Dutch office is a Cambuur fan. As they have been fucked over I'll drop him a message and see what he says.

If our season gets voided I can't help but think my love for football will be punctured a bit.

Aren't leagues that are voiding now after 4/5 of games have been played setting themselves up for a problem? Besides the possibility of legal action what happens if this isn't all sorted for the start of next season and the first 1/5 of the season is lost. They've now set a precedent which would mean them having to cancel next season as well.

Knock on from that would be huge. If they can't afford to keep paying players they'd be in breach of contract and all the players could walk. If other leagues are playing, and with Euro 2020 next summer, players are likely to head to wherever they can get a game.

I don’t think I’ll come back. I said I’d give up, probably won’t be that drastic but I won’t but a season ticket holder. Maybe go to a game here and then. Would be more open to take a free stream. Basically it will break the link and I’ll become a casual fan. What’s the point if they can take it from you. Will just be an excuse to go on the beer with mates on occasion or something to watch when I’m not doing anything.

I've thought similar to be honest. I started going in 86 so after the first season its been basically all downhill until Robins turned up. If we get shafted when we finally have a chance to win the league and get back to the championship it would be a huge blow.

Add in still playing at Birmingham and a good chance of losing multiple players it would be heartbreaking. Then you've got next season possibly starting behind closed doors so by the time we're looking to flog season tickets and get people back to games unless we've got off to a flyer I can see it being a very tough sell.

There are threads all mixed up on here and its been said before but to repeat...
Leagues would have an extra 3 teams in them for a couple of seasons, then relegate 3 instead of two to bring each season to return the leagues to the normal number.
Painless and fair.

So in a season that could very well be shorter than normal you're going to add in extra games?

They could cancel the league cup and Checkatrade for a couple of seasons and have a trimmed down Champions League and Europa League just have straight knock outs like it used to be.

The ppg would not put Wycombe 3 rd Oxford would stay there they have 5 home and 4 away Wycombe have 4 home and 6 away and their away record (Wycombe) is their downfall. They would be in the top 6 though but no cigar.

Same down in here Pompey...local rag (probably owned by the same company) saying the same thing.

On the Dutch league situation, apparently they asked the clubs their opinions. There was no consensus so the KNVB made the decision.

The clubs screwed over could rightly have voted against it.

League Cup sponsorship alone, ignoring TV rights and gate receipts, is £6m a season.

According to the BBC report the dutch government has banned major events until 1st September. If this is taken literally, behind closed doors games would not be permitted, hence the season had no chance of finishing. At the moment this is not the same as our position.

SISU will “batter” the EFL in court

The problem with it all is there is so much money involved. Getting promoted from the championship is worth something ridiculous like £150 million, not allowing promotion could leave the EFL and PL open to massive law suits in terms of loss of earnings. Even from L1 to champ there’s a fair bit of money involved. If it was under halfway through the season it would probably be justifiable to void the season.

Where we are now, it’s not really justifiable, and if for example they give Liverpool the league title but void the lower leagues then they open themselves up to legal action. With Liverpool so far ahead as well they can’t not give Liverpool the title.

Another thought, a team like us, if we don’t get promoted this season, we could be mid table next season and relegated the season after, the loss of earnings that would incur for the club is massive, and SISU loving a bit of court action would be all over it like a rash.

There’s no easy way out of this for the league. If I was in charge I would promote those in promotion positions. Those in play offs play the play offs when it is safe to do so. No relegations, and just filter the extra teams out of each league over a few years with an extra relegation spot each season. That way no club in the relegation zone is penalised, no club in the play offs are penalised. It may upset those one or two spots outside the play offs, but I think it’s the fairest option

It’s hardly getting the title to shut them up though is it, only 9 games to play 27 wins only 1 loss and
25 points clear of Man City, it would be an absolute travesty if they Aren’t crowned Champions.

of course we have a convincing case ourselves as to whether we gain promotion/champions etc
But I just don’t understand the amount of people talking about Liverpool like they are somehow
undeserving.
If Liverpool are crowned champions and we aren’t ‘that won’t be Liverpool’s fault.

They are deserved winners of the Premier League and it would have been 2 or so games before they mathematically won it.

However, let's not pretend that they are a victim city/team.
