Do you want to discuss boring politics? (52 Viewers)

In all seriousness, the results so far today are huge. If you are really far politically the other way, it must be difficult. It is a big indication from the general public that they've had enough and I would say one of the most significant indicators of the times we are in since Brexit. The numbers here are not just a few racists, or sheltered corners of the country. There's no adult or sensible way to counter argue that, unless you spin off into denial or do the Seymour Skinner 'it's the children that are wrong'.

Whilst I do not think Reform are the long term answer, I do hope that this shake up can be the catalyst for some form of positive change.

If you think Reform will be very bad for the country and also think parties who want to break up the union winning in Wales and Scotland is bad too, yeah it’s a pretty grim day.

Others on here think Reform winning will be good for the country. I hope they’re right, but I have very deep reservations. Not least with Richard Tice banging the drum for climate denialism.

Anyway, some decent news

We don't get gas through the straits of Hormuz. Most of it is from Norway & much more of it could be domestic production if mad Ed Minibrain allowed new UK fields to be opened.

As a Reform voter, reasons I dislike Starmer/Labour:

• Wouldn't have a Grooming Gangs Enquiry. That has only come about because of pressure put on them by Reform. Another good thing Reform have done that Labour didnt. In fact, starmer tried his hardest to block an inquiry at every point!
• Trying to force digital ID still.
• Promised increased defence spending. Haven't dont it, and in fact, made us far worse off by declining the military and giving away the chagos islands.
• Promised no tax hikes for workers, then U-turned and did it anyway.
• Promised not to take away winter fuel payments.... then took them anyway.
• Tried to cancel these local elections! Talk about dictatorship worthiness or what!
• Hired his mate Mandleson.

I could probably go on, but you get the point im sure!

As a country we don’t own the oil fields, we give licenses to private companies to drill who then sell it where they like, iirc.

Do we not import LNG from Qatar?

He asked a fair question. If immigration is the top issue and net immigration is going down, what’s the beef with Starmer? Which I ask having many problems with him, to be clear.

The only things there that have much substance are th winter fuel payments and Mandelson. Everything else is mostly exaggerated or missing context.

Strangely enough nobody seems able to answer it.

They attract UK taxes. We're paying Norwegian taxes by proxy.

At this point the best thing Starmer could do for the country is resign….obviously he’ll prioritise himself though.

Part of the issue i have with the continued growth of reform is i really think rejoing the EU is the future as brexit has been a catastrophic failure

And with reform all that does is push that happening back further

These elections just show reform are growing massively as a party tbh , thats the bigger longer term picture to take from it

I take what you say and you make some good points on the grooming gangs and mandleson but you have some untruths in there. Defence spending for instance has increased under Labour both in real terms and as a percentage of GDP, the problem is 10 years of deliberate decline in both real terms and as a percentage of GDP under the previous government. We haven’t given up the Chagos islands.

What’s curious to me is what makes you think Reform is the answer? They plan to decimate welfare to give their mates tax cuts ie the the extremely wealthy. As stupid as the mandleson appointment was look at some of the people reform keeps putting forward, they’re putting some truly repugnant people forward only to have to drop them. They’ll be giving jobs to the boys as much as any other party. Their budgetary plans have been described by the man best placed to judge as Trussonomics on steroids with a crash bigger than Truss’ to follow, said man is the man from the think tank that dreamed up Truss’ budget and now admits he got it completely wrong. Reform in government is a recipe for disaster, just pay attention to what a disaster the councils they do control have been, huge wastes of money on consultants to find savings only to come to the blatantly obvious that there are no savings after years of austerity everything is stripped to the bone and I’m sure that these consultancies having links to reform donate has nothing to do with it (jobs for their mates aka mandleson and cronyism), putting flags to the front of the agenda over things like making sure children aren’t going to school hungry. Their priorities are all wrong.

Energy from fossil fuels is the Betamax of energy generation. The fact that politicians are backing it should ring alarm bells in anyone capable of digesting facts.
It'll be okay now they've got the Gaza lot out of the way Isreal can supply us with gas for the next Eon or Epoch.

The results in Wales and Scotland are appalling. Starmer staying on having caused them is an insult at this point.

I’m sure the Labour leader was very pointed in her resignation speech about the leader needs to accept culpability and leave

And this is the thing that really annoys me about Starmer. The writing was on the wall months ago - he’s incapable of communication, his act of delegating major tasks for them to backfire clearly needs to change, a complete disinterest in politics is massively hindering the government.

When Burnham was proposed as a candidate and was subsequently blocked, the only chance of Labour truly salvaging this election cycle died. Not that I’m saying Burnham was the silver bullet, but there’s no one else who (in my view) would be even slightly capable of governing the country.

Anas Sarwar was calling it months ago and has tried a strategy-unsuccessfully-of distancing himself as far as he can from Starmer.

I see John McDonnell has also weighed in

Good news though, Coventry councillors are dropping like nine pins

Lancaster has just been ousted.

O'Boyle gone, this might explain why
O'Boyle is a prominent figure in the media and has overseen projects like Very Light Rail, the Gigapark plan at Coventry Airport and the City Centre South redevelopment project.

A fair few MPs are breaking ranks and wanting him gone

Where are these no go areas that you're talking about. Name one
To be fair i work with DNOs and they literally put notes on jobs packs that ahhem, urge their workersto take caution in certain areas due to this exact thing.

I think there may be notes on the drawings too which is crazy when you think about it.
