“it never happens again” is classic politician speak for not giving a fuck but getting a big noise from the chamber

Of course it will happen again

Covid inquiry has been interesting watching the Criminal Clown back in the spotlight. Whole bunch of the Tories in charge at that time will get away with having done outrageous stuff, but that prick told barefaced lies to Parliament and got away with it after people were being barred from funerals and other once in a lifetime events.

Justice is only there for the rich and powerful in this country.

People had it far worse than me - as you say not being able to attend funerals etc - so I'm not looking for sympathy, but I was only able to see my newborn baby for 2 hours a day while she was in hospital. Meanwhile those cunts were having parties in Downing Street.

Not really. I see Christian preachers shouting at folks about how they're going to hell most times I'm in town. I grew up watching Catholics and Protestants doing their thing in Ireland and over here. I see people claiming Christian values while being grim nationalists more and more in different countries. Not sold on the 'Christians seem chill' meme.

Sorry to hear that mate. Had same trouble with the hospital, except it was with my Dad. Got taken in Christmas Day when it was peak covid, no visits allowed at all.

To this day we don't really know what happened to him in there other than the fact there's something they are hiding. First couple of days he was chatting on the phone like normal then all of a sudden he had no clue what was going on.

Then he got stuck in there for a couple of months because they said he needed to go into care and there was nowhere for him to go. Finally got him in a care home and he had to go through a quarantine period so we couldn't see him there either. Was mid-March before we got to see him.

Then you've got people going round saying 'nobody cares about parties'.

Agree that there's a lot of violence and ugly stuff in most religious texts. However, the big thing that separates 'The West' is that the Enlightenment happened and flourished and this is arguably the most consequential and important movement in world history. It's where Western Europe and the Middle East diverge massively.

Reasonable assumption to assume it's still ongoing in other areas. plenty of accusations against the Met and London councils covering up historic and ongoing scandals.

You say this, but my post is also referring to things that are still or at least very recent problems. Sexual abuse by those in the church being a bare minimum.

Don’t stop trying to press them for the truth, I’ve read your wider issues regarding your dad’s care and he’s been messed around to absurd extents going off what you’ve written.

By comparison our own biggest complaints from that time are minor. We had our wedding planned for x date in July. Johnson decides to push the dates back further for allowing more than x people at weddings by a few days beyond this, so at the last minute we push it back by a week. In the intervening week my gran has a sudden heart attack and dies, while Johnson is having BBQ parties at No. 10 and allowing 80,000 into Wembley for the Euros.

I have never forgiven him for this.

Fundamentalists of any religion are not 'chill'. The issue is that there's exponentially more fundamentalists in the ME and North Africa than Western Europe. One of the reasons for that is the enlightenment prioritises the scientific method, promotes democracy, individual liberties and most significantly, the beginning of the separation if church and state by de-emphasising the authority of religions.

Compare any region of the world that did not experience the enlightenment and those that did. V briefly, one of the reasons India is democracy and Pakistan wasn't for a long time after the partition, is that the former inherited most (if not all) British institutions (courts, universities and so on to sustain a democracy.

On the sex abuse scandal, it's forever a stain on how the church (Catholic in particularly) is forever view. What exacerbated the scandal is the institutionalised culture of cover ups which allowed perpetrators to operate as long as they did. This isn't just limited to the Catholic church, there's issues across all the Abrahamic faiths from other Christian denominations, in the Jewish faith as well as in Quaranic schools too.

I don't agree with the article below because it smacks of Jess Phillips saying 'its all men' committing these crimes and this viewpoint fails to deal with the immediate issue at hand. Nonetheless, it's an interesting read.

Priests Commit No More Abuse Than Other Males

The priesthood is being cast as the refuge of pederasts. In fact, priests seem to abuse children at the same rate as everyone else.

I share your frustrations but Johnson (eventually) and others rightly lost their jobs over the parties and ultimately the Tories lost the next election.

Johnson/Hancock were the worst people we could ever have in charge in a pandemic but a lot of the peoples issues stem from the worldwide scientists groupthink of pushing for harsh, long lockdowns. Some of the rules were ridiculous (and frankly inhumane) and the harm they caused from the overall financial cost, the impact on kids and society in general, are way beyond what any of us will probably ever know. I didn’t hear any/many in opposition calling for looser lockdowns though ? In fact it appeared that the further left the harsher, longer lockdowns people seemed to want.

We probably already know the numerous fuck ups from the Tories, what I want from the inquiry is;

how did it start/what’s being done to stop something like this circulate globally again (if possible) ?

were each of the lockdowns the correct response to the situation at their specific times (what was the cost benefit, would many of those deaths have happened anyway ie everyone would catch it eventually

would we have been better focussing lockdowns on elderly/those most at risk (and focussing initial limited testing on those that come into contact with them) ?

did natural immunity from catching covid provide the same/greater/lesser level of protection from catching and spreading it as the jab ?

and most importantly, have we now got a suitable pandemic plan regularly reviewed where we have local supply chains for the essentials required if another global pandemic arose

If we don’t get the above it’s a total waste of cash. I won’t be holding my breath though

Possibly. The NIC emp’er raise was a big mistake though and probably kept inflation a bit higher for longer (which also impacts borrowing costs). They need to be brave though, unless people see an improvement in public services before next election they’re fucked anyway

Ignoring the little dig at 'the left' wanting more extreme lockdowns, my point is the likes of Johnson should be in prison, not just voted out of office. Just a disgusting excuse for a man who wanted the bodies to 'pile high'.

It's what the nationalist parties in NI/Scotland/Wales all have in common. Who'd have thought tying things people actually want to a cause makes it more popular?

I doubt it would. They have become the most unpopular party after winning an election that I can remember. People focus generally on the individuals at the top of government and they are just not endearing to the public. If they actually increase the base tax rate I would suggest that most of them start looking for new jobs outside politics pretty quickly.

People care less about the face at the top and more about the money in their pocket and their day to day lives which for most means interacting with some kind of public service and paying for the cost of living.

We can of course disagree on what people prioritise more.

Can’t both things be true? Isn’t the Labour leadership’s unpopularity with voters on the left at least in part due to its pandering to Reform voters?
