Get on top of what? It's unlikely to happen again now.

It's the 2nd time in about 5 years some has been able to wander across.

The fence is stupid and pointless if you can just walk down and around it

As someone said why were they allowed to leave at the same time as the City fans?

We've got Birmingham, West Brom, Stoke and Millwall coming up soon. I don't share your confidence that there is little chance of a repeat. Agreed there's not usually trouble in the stadium but then for years the away supporters are miles away as numbers have been low. What is the threshold at which you think its actually worth trying to stop?

It may only be the 2nd time in 5 years (inside the stadium, certainly not outside where there is now trouble at the end of that fence on a regular basis) but 2 of those were spent in Brum, one shortened season & one behind closed doors, its been much longer since we were in the Championship and even longer since we were getting 20K plus crowds on a regular basis - must be about 15 years.

As I mentioned earlier in the thread its not only our games that have had issues at the stadium & exhibition hall. Personally if I were in charge I'd be asking why we struggle to stage events that go off without a hitch around the country.

At the risk of sounding like a stuck record why does the dibble rep need to look at the game to realise standing around doing fuck all is a poor way of doing crowd control when it gets volatile. Sorry but they need to accept they played a part in this.

I think they may disagree with your conclusion and may want to dispassionately take a look a what happened and why and what could be done differently in the future. Lol

I'm sure there will be a thorough investigation that comes to the conclusion that they did nothing wrong. Then they will get told unofficially to get up there quicker next time.

No accountability in the police at all.

Well they are accountable and responsible along with the club for safety on the site and safety outside of the site.

Getting higher attendances and playing clubs with bigger away support is going to lead to more instances of trouble - even in the early 00s it was pretty common to get skirmishes outside the ground.

My concern is that this has been put all over social media now by Derby and Cov 'fans'. Other teams will now come in numbers looking for nd expecting trouble, especially Stoke, Blues, Baggies and possibly Millwall as well.
Derby fans have been bleating that someone pulled a machete out at the Cherry Tree on Saturday which was the reason for them running. There was no evidence to support this and was more than likely just chinese whispers but other clubs fans see it and it could end pretty badly with teams thinking Cov are up for it every week.

Police seem to have taken a stance of they would rather film the trouble , and retrospectively arrest and ban rather than charge in and stop the disorder or defuse it . I think this is a dangerous action because people coked or pissed don’t think rationally ., I think it’s a dangerous tactic myself because waiting for stewards to do the job puts more people in harms way lazy policing

It's no different to how it used to be 20 years and those looking to cause trouble would hear about it anyway with social media.

Let's be honest though, it was a low category game Saturday and the police got it wrong. Same with Sunderland. It was a Cat B game when it should have been the highest.

Birmingham and Millwall will be the highest category and there will be simply too many officers for any trouble to occur.

It's also worth noting, bar the two Cov fans that broke through the stewards (both will be banned for many years now), no Derby fans got close to the Coventry end. That to me suggests that they did their job in stopping them.

It's the same 6/7 years ago when Port Vale came. There were about 40 of them who tried to 'storm' the Coventry end when all that really happened was they moved a block across and were stopped by police.

But did they though? Not one Derby fan got close to the Coventry end? Their job was to stop that happening and it worked.

loads of them got a way across and it was only after did the police reinforce. Any stopping was mostly done by the stewards

The Birmingham game has the potential to be a really tough game for the police and stewards to keep a lid on.Wont take much to light the fuse unfortunately.

Really can't cost anymore to keep away fans In for 10 minutes ..I imagine it costs a hell of alot more to police fighting for an hour or so after the match , with arrests etc

Tuesday night and Sky should tone that down a bit. I think it was the 1-0 when Scott Dann scored was running battles outside

The sensible thing to do would definitely keep them in for 10-15 minutes.Hopefully after Saturday theyve realised this.

It was like this in league 2 , there were scuffles around by the away fans almost every few weeks tbh

If the police we're up there earlier stopping the bottle throwing from both sides then there wouldn't have been any charging andit wouldn't have escalated in the way it did.

They may have prevented a full scale brawl but their lack of action contributed to it becoming a possibility one might happen.

For those suggesting keeping away fans in just be aware that the car parks are still pretty full of cars queueing to leave and there are still hundreds of people around at 5.30 plus the roads and shopping centre are rammed until at least an hour post match.
Unless coaches are placed outside the away end and there is a police escort for other fans it can all kick off again.

It happens hardly ever though.

I'll tell you what would nipped it in the bud though, the old bill actually taking action when it started to get a bit volatile instead of leave a few minimum wage stewards to deal with it.

Its the clubs call inside the stadium. First response is meant to be stewards, if they can’t deal with it Police come in.

As for saying the police did nothing, it didn’t look that way outside as they drew batons and faced the oncoming Derby fans.
The mistake was letting them get round on the road in the first place.

Most of the Derby fans who headed towards Cherry Tree were there because they couldn't access the station.

You'd be mad if you had to live in Birmingham.

I enjoyed a bit of Digbeth but wander down the wrong road and it gets pretty dicey pretty quickly.

I certainly think they should have stepped in earlier but once they were there, they stopped any real trouble. It was mostly goading really.

I also think they would have been more than happy to allow the Coventry fan to throw the punches because they know they can throw the book at him later on.

I've heard Blue's are coming down in large numbers 6,000 regardless of having tickets or not.
Think people are going to have their wits about them.
