Match Thread Coventry City vs Hull City (H) - Match Thread - Sat 29th August (3pm KO) (6 Viewers)

Been great for us so I don't think he deserves to be dropped and you can't judge Caleb after one game against Arsenal thus I don't know who we should drop if anyone.

Mfuni would be a good start, the more i read. Seen Man City fans saying they wish they'd have kept him around for backup... i mean, if Man City fans are saying that he's pretty good right?
He looks taller, stronger and quicker than JDS which is what we need. Not sure about him going straight in though.

I just don't want to waste time, if he's good to go (and i assume fitness standards are very high at Man City) then stick him in. We genuinely need to be beating Hull.

If EMC is fit clearly BTA makes away

We paid a record fee for Yirenkyi for a reason, we should back the recruitment imo.

Feels like a potential sliding doors moment already

Win, first Prem win in 25 years, back on terms with Hull, confidence restored etc etc

Lose or draw and people will lose their heads. Man City away next as a misery compounder.

I’m really confident we’re a better team than Hull, the only way they’ll win is shithousery.
They beat Man United without 'shithousery'. That's a pretty arrogant take on it.

Saka in front of Mve, Emc to start if he is fit .

Partly I’d like someone better than Grimes partly who do you play in the Grimes role if he’s injured?

Maybe better not the right word here so much as more physically suited to the PL

They scored from 2 set pieces and had 28% possession. I’d call that shithousery.
Shithousery in football is the art of deliberately doing annoying, cheeky, sneaky or borderline gamesmanship-type things to frustrate the opposition and gain an advantage.
How is scoring from 2 set pieces and defending properly 'shithousery'?

Odd to have a must win so early in the season but with our fixtures, really need to get something on the board.

Expect us to have more of the ball here, so feel Hamer and tats will be useful in finding away through their low block. As such without any additional signings would line up like this.

I think it’s likely to look like this, and probably ok for Hull at home, but moving forwards we either need to drop Hamer back for Grimes and play Rudoni further forwards, or bring in another CM as I think he’ll be found out for being too slow against a lot of teams

Don’t think we’ll recruit another DM with 3 in the squad already.

We’ll see a pairing of Onyeka and Yirenkyi at some point I think

What I mean is I can’t see them outplaying us.

I see Onyeka and Yirenkyi as 8s rather than 6s. Onyeka has been playing almost like a 10 since pre season.

Onyeka’s strengths to me are covering ground and making challenges. He can leave the ball playing to his partner.

Shmeee is wrong, he hasn't played as a 10, he's played as an 8 once in a friendly as a warm up for the Arsenal game and once in the Arsenal game.. We have played people as a 10 like BTA against Espanyol for example but Oneyka isn't 1 of them.

Onyeka at least covered the ground in the game and in the first half was constantly trying to cover.

Yeah I have a feeling he’ll play the same midfield

I don’t think you get that luxury at this level tbh.

We dont have to win at all , this nonsense needs to stop after gameweek 1 you are setting yourself up for meltdown

Would i like to win yes , should we win yes , is our season over if we dont , no
I agree to an extent but we could go 6 points behind them, then we are away at Man City while they have a poor Villa side at home.

Results can spiral very quickly in this league, points on the board is a must especially against a direct rival for survival.

It's simple. Games like these we should be winning if our desire is to stay up. Team selection will be important, no time to bed new players in that are still trying to gel as a loss would severely dent confidence.

Id call that great management and great execution of tactics!

Hull are used to not having the ball. Great fitness and great work ethic. McBurnie is an absolute menace.

Didnt hull last year have the most headed clearances in that match won everything!

We need the Middlesbrough game mentality and boro at home levels of intensity. Got the bench to change it up too. So let's go at them.

Could do, they play well although though in a friendly against Monaco and the quality of Midfielder isn't anywhere near as good this weekend rather than last weekend.

Be interesting to see who plays what minutes in Plymouth as that make give some clues. If Torp starts and plays most of the game I think it's be Grimes as a 6 and Onyeka and Caleb as 8s, if he doesn't play or comes off the bench he may well start.

But what do you really think?

I actually agree with Shmmeee tbh. The midfield needs to be switched around, i think a fully fit Rudoni has to come in to provide that goal threat. Yirenkyi can play the Onyeka role but basically with more quality on the ball unless i'm mistaken? Then you just have to decide in that scenario whether you want another Onyeka or a Grimes type. I think the Grimes type offers more with Yirenkyi already in the team with Onyeka ultimately becoming the Yirenkyi cover. If we can upgrade on Grimes too, then we should.
