Conservatives didn't seem so concerned about misleading information being online during the election campaign. In fact I seem to recall it was them creating it.
MPs expressed frustration at a lack of answers from social media firms when they grilled them this morning about misinformation spreading online during the pandemic.

The Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) Sub-committee heard from representatives of Twitter, Facebook and Google about what they were doing to tackle misleading and harmful content on their platforms.

Tbh I've got no problem whatsoever in hearing the plan... As long as it isn't rushed. Just hoping he isn't leaving it to next week so he can surprise us with freedom!

Didn't see todays update but after weeks of being told masks are pointless and all the other countries where mask wearing is occurring wasting their time they're now talking about bringing it in here?

No. They say wear them if you are sick or in contact with those who are sick. Which would apply to people post lockdown.

New Zealand!

South Korea have been phenomenal. Their tech trace and track (together with other measures) has helped them keep a lid on it (to date)

New Zealand have done great but not really comparable. 4m population and if you’ve ever been to South Island you can drive for an hour and not see another car on the road ! Also not really an international hub compared to major European/Asian countries so far easier to control/quarantine incoming travellers etc.

What I can’t get my head around is that Germany appeared to get it under control, started lockdown release and then it sounds like spread picked up again quite quickly. How come that’s happened there and not SK so far ? SK must surely be implementing measures over and above what Europe is taking ? (Especially as they are operating without full lockdown).

Im assuming Germany don’t have the invasive contract tracking tech SK do? They tend to be a lot hotter on data protection. Birthing the Stazi will do that to a country.

But If population density is a factor the why have Hong Kong done so well?
Highly populous country (administrative region) people living on top of each other but locked down harsh and early and very few deaths.

Id like to see correlation with authoritarian societies if such a measure exists. Like countries where people follow rules easily or are forced to.

And I'd be intersted to see something similar regarding compulsory mask wearing.
There are so many variables and methods of collecting data I really take my hat off to anyone who can give a coherent picture of all this.

Not suggesting any of them are 100% standalone reasons for better or worse current results but there will be combinations of factors that will help or hinder. As you’ve highlighted with HK strict lockdown, negating the high density, SK - looser lockdown but excellent (almost oppressive) tech track and track. Might be that different combos work better for different nations depending on various factors, cultures etc

Maybe the Tories were worried about how we would take it. The sensible would understand. But they are more interested in winning votes than what is best for us.

The issue with masks is it’s going to be used to create a sense of security regarding returning to work - as it is in the US - most are not going to be fitted correctly and are going to also potentially encourage people with symptoms to venture out under the misguided belief that they will be able to prevent infection to others.

I had to return to to work Tuesday and you are correct, they have purchased 10,000 of the blue masks, we get one in the morning and one in the afternoon, i am not best pleased about it if I'm honest.
Social distancing is encouraged but if people want something it is a natural instinct to walk upto someone and ask, many are wearing their mask incorrectly as you say, as safety glasses can steam up some are just covering their mouth with them, one chap pulls it off his face completely if he wants to say something, but it's that or don't get paid.

What an idiot. How much notice was there schools were closing, couple of days? Is he seriously suggesting that in that time they should have been able to transfer everything online?

My daughter's school knew it was coming, probably had a couple of weeks where it was inevitable.

She came home with a big folder of work and some stuff on Microsoft teams.

Over the Easter holidays it has improved even more which I guess is that the teachers have got used to using it and are recording lessons and setting plans etc.

To be fair, there's more than enough free, interactive content online to keep kids busy if the parents have an issue with it.

Looks like the numbers on the bridge tonight went down thankfully and no ambulances.

Still a few police stood about watching though rather than telling people to go home.

It won't matter. The government insisted we'd hit 100 thousand by today,we're nowhere near as they were told we wouldn't be.
That's the real issue. Never give Andy Turner a hard time again, you're doing exactly what he does.

Yes because I'm making things up..

Yep, they have failed in their goals with testing. Doesn't make it ok for people to start socialising though does it?

It doesn't mean people are suddenly immune.

Maybe people can use that as a reason on a Wednesday gathering though? Not enough tests to see if we have Corona so we can all gather.

But you only comment on the lesser issue.

If you were posting a continuing narrative of the situation fair enough but all you comment on is the tik tok videos, the London bridge gatherings and piers Morgan.

Very little about lack of PPE, missed testing targets act.
I can't understand why you think breaking social distancing guidelines is the more important issue.

We really aren’t far off the capacity for 100k tests a day though are we? Your going on like we’re still at 20k a day which is embarrassing...I agree at the start we didn’t do enough but the last few days we’ve really ramped it up and long may it continue.... hopefully this month we’ll see track and trance and antibody tests

We've missed a target that everyone knew we couldn't hit but ministers have been insisting for weeks we would hit when everyone else said there was no chance.

So they were either lying or they are incompetent- take your pick.

In the mean time look over there, there's some people clapping and not social distancing!
It's transparent as fuck.
Hello wasps,. This is the government, could you give us some tips on using the media to create a distraction?!
