Spain plans return to 'new normal' by end of June

Could we be similar in terms of measures?

It used to be my call in after my last night shift. Couple of hours sleep then in for my large breakfast with a couple of pints to wash it down. Will only cost me a few quid more to use a pub offering buffet breakfast and beer where they treated their staff with respect. And the walk will do me good.

I feel that story is a planted one anyway tbh, him and his dickhead mates like Arron Banks are pushing for people to start going against their best interests again

Marked difference with the local pubs, most of which have been trying their best to help their community.

A pub is a pub. But that wanker won't be getting any more money out if me. He sacked all his staff instead of keeping them on in case he didn't get the money back off the government then had the balls ti tell them they could go wirk for Tesco's until pubs reopened then could go back to their old jobs. Hope all the staff find something better and he struggles to find staff to reopen.

Yeah I think so. Though maybe a bit later. We seem to be going to a strategy of a bigger wave at first then hopefully nothing whereas Spain have shut down tighter so may well get a second wave.

I'm not so sure. I think people like Mr Martin have left a really bad taste, to go along with the tragedies of the pandemic.
The public won't forget what happened very quickly.

I hope.

Theatres could be doable but they would have to halve the amount of attendees at least

The job retention scheme is only budgeted until the 1st of July. Could this be another reason for the subtle change to the 5th test and the desire fo at least start to reopen the economy?

No it will get extended again if needs be? At some point we have to get the economy going again we can’t sit in all year nobody will have a job left and imagine how many deaths will occur from that mixed in with a global depression.... once it’s safe we need to get going again...

They are not going to pay the 100s of billions to extend the plans though. That'll be another 300 odd billion.

Also there is no point in having an economy with no demand and your heroes have no desire for stimulus.

See this is where it’s going to be so difficult to find the balance with the economy..... I literally don’t have a clue what is going to happen that’s the scary thing fearing the unknown

It's not unknown though, there's 100s of years of economic data. People with less money spend less so what you need to do is create demand. The most common method of this is by counter cyclical spending in which government spending creates work and the wages of said work are spent in te wider economy supporting more jobs ancvtheceages from these jobs are then spent in the economy creating more jobs and so on.

You can't just reopen the economy, you need to throw some money ag if as well.

My theory is a lot of it is down to how 'friendly' a lot of Europeans are. Their families are closer and have lose greetings. So it spread very quickly. Spain had it very bad. Their lockdown was very tight. Their kids have only just been let out after 2 months. Maybe that is how our very soft 'lockdown' has started to work.

Of this is correct they will be able to do something similar to us but stop greeting each other as they normally do.

This captain Tom stuff is lovely. I so hope our beloved party of austerity do something about recognising it that makes up for years of salaries not keeping up with inflation

It doesn't do anything of the sort even if they do, it is tokenistic horse shit. The whole thing is an utter embarrassment, not taking anything, away from Tom.

I just hope all of the millions being raised by everything is used properly and that it doesn't go towards administrator or non medical consultant types.

A medical consultant is a doctor? You mean a management consultant. They'd be better off spending the money on equipment or other capex

Yeah I meant non medical consultant, like some dickhead who comes in on a grand a day to tell people to move some chairs about.

They should use it to scrap the shitty paid TV systems and shocking wifi they have

Spot on Eddie....he probably popped on here for 15 mins !!! Media and social media is awash with negativity. Yes, there is lots of bad news around but the better news stories are either ignored, played down or spun into something negative.....even Colonel Tom on his 100th birthday !

The thing that pisses me off about Colonel Tom is that people in the media try to "own" him as if they should take credit for it. Obviously they helped push it and publicise it but it's when others take it and try and make it about them.

Talking of tokenistic horse shit just had a message pop up on Facebook that this Thursday we're supposed to have a 2 minute silence at 7.58pm for people who have died then at 8pm clap for NHS and at 8.05pm sing Happy Birthday to Captain Tom.
